I love that you are aware of how awful plastic is! And that you love the science of it! I am a conservation biologist so I love this stuff and telling people about alternatives. Love all the things you shared. Just a reminder... don't feel like you need to go out and buy special zero waste items if the usual things you use are still ok. Shelbi just did a zero waste regrets video, so It's on my mind. For example don't feel that you need a mini bamboo spork if you can bring the usual metal silverware from your kitchen with you. All for lightweight and travel things but its so easy to get caught up in consumerism because you want to support awesome companies. Also if beauty and skincare products are safe and friendly to the Earth they are probably going to be good for your body as well. 😍

Hey girl! I think in the algae part of your video you were explaining eutrophication and it was awesome and informative! However, algae doesn’t need oxygen to survive, because it’s a plant and makes energy using photosynthesis, therefore releasing oxygen. The reason algal blooms are so problematic is because 1) the dense population of one species will use up a majority of the minerals needed for their survival quickly as the exponential phase of growth reaches carrying capacity. Then, the algae will die. That congregation of dead algae attracts aerobic bacteria which decomposes the algae and THAT is what causes oxygen deletion in an ecosystem. 2) along with (1) the algae resides at the top of its body of water and that blocks light for plants underneath it to enact photosynthesis It is true that sometimes at night, plants may build up oxygen due to the lack of sunlight, or close their stromata on dry or hot days. This means the will do something called photorespiration where to prevent the harmful products from light dependent reactions, they use oxygen in the Calvin cycle instead of CO2 to literally just do it. However, it uses energy and doesn’t store it so it isn’t ideal for the plant

PLEASE DO A ZERO WAS SKIN CARE / BEAUTY ROUTINE. so many people push plastic heavy products when there are not only more natural ingredient products but reusable or completely biodegradable or recyclable packaging.

Lush actually has a lot of package free products now, and the skincare is quite nice! (wasn't expecting to love it so much) I've been super inspired to live low-waste recently as well! I've gotten reusable cotton rounds & un-paper towels from Marley's Monsters on Etsy and love them. I've also been experimenting with DIYing a lot of things between beauty products and plant based alternatives and I can't say that I've disliked any of it. I also just started using a shampoo bar from Aquarian Bath on Etsy (they are package free and deliver in paper) and it's going well so far considering I have extremely dry, bleached, damaged, wavy hair.

Hey Cass! Great video. Rhian HY has a video w/ great reusable products she's switched to. From what I heat, you r supposed 2 cut off smaller pieces of the shampoo bars and use just those so they don't get funky. Plus you could keep a piece in ur backpack, bathroom, etc. Hope that helps!! Xo

I saw your comment on Alyse’s red light therapy video, and I was disappointed in her reply... I am so glad that you always put in the time and effort to research before recommending something to your audience, instead of blindly following whatever trends pop up. I always trust your advice and sometimes research topics independently, and I thank you for that

Toothpaste is not even necessary, I've been using DIY powder toothpaste for years and it works very well. You can mix into a small glass container (like an old cream jar) equal parts of baking soda and clay (white or green, doesn't matter), and a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil for freshness. You dip your wet toothbrush in the powder and brush your teeth. It doesn't lather but you get used to it. No packaging and no harmful chemicals at all!

I understand that certain things in tooth past can and are harmful to equation life but we can just not use florid and other ingredients to stop plaque and other negative things happening to our teeth and gums. I do use toms of Maine and love their products plus cleaning products i use around the house are from seventh generation and other companies are vegan. It’s crazy how much waste there is when it comes to buying anything.

It's sad when you know that it is the government that doesn't recycle their population's waste, which is ridiculous because it isn't impossible at all, they just don't concern about it. But for example, in Sweden, the recycling program is so efficient that they have to buy other countries' waste to keep going on recycling at a decent amount. Btw I love, when I eat outside, when the place I go let to the customers the possibility to bring their own containers. I think it should be the case in any takeaway restaurant (plus they should use more sustainable containers too lol). Personally, I'm a huge fan of reusable, high quality bento boxes, they are so practical and cute ! And on top of this, if you choose wisely, they are sustainable like hell (never got one broken or stained). They are mainly made of plastic but it is very resistant. And I guess some are made from Bamboo fiber or if you buy traditional ones, they are made from wood with a food grade varnish. I don't think we should ban plastic anyway, but we have to produce a more sustainable, high standard plastic and ban any single use one (it's improving slowly, in Belgium they have banned Q-tips recently and they plan on forbidding plastic straws too). When it comes to plastic, the chosen component is very important too : there are some kind of plastic that are better recycled than others depending on the grade.

@@tiahnagrace6325 I found a honey shampoo bar on etsy so far. The maker is sending me a sample.. It has coconut oil in it though soooo.... Lol! It's kinda hard finding the right one. I was reading how over time it leaves build up in the hair. Using acv helps with that once a week. It's just...acv leaves my hair smelling like vinegar and also makes it weighed down feeling later in the day. Sigh...

I just wanted to add my two cents. Two of the biggest things you can do are 1) Purchase a green vehicle (Hybrid of electric) and 2) Consider buying green certificates for the electricity you use on the grid that isn't clean (Google them to see how they work; basically you can offset "dirty" energy with the green certificates by using "clean/sustainable" energy). I am saving to buy a full electric vehicle and already buy green certs.
