Whoever put this list together, thank you. When homophobic black people (See comments below) ask where are all these LGBT people who have contributed to the black struggles are at, and then we tell them, they just say we are lying LOL. You cannot please everyone, I have finally realized. People stooped in religion will deny reality at all costs to hold on to their mislead and hateful view points. I can understand there confusion, since some on this list didn't OPENLY identify there same sex attractions, but posthumoushly, there friends and familes tell the stories of the truth. Bayard Rustin, James Baldwin, and Barbara Jordan alone did more for black people than anyone commenting. I thank them and their legacies for showing me how to by myself!
@SagesseNoir10 жыл бұрын
Some of them I knew about, and others I did not. But how was it discovered that Benjamin Banneker was gay?The case of James Baldwin is well known. I learned that Alain Locke was gay from a black philosopher who has done a lot of research on Locke. Paul Winfield I didn't know about. But I'm not very surprised since people tended to keep it in the closet until recently. I recall reading a statement by Huey P. Newton who pointed out that some of the most committed revolutionaries in the Movement were gay. Eventually, my attitude became "Who cares who they sleep with if they're down with the STruggle?
@Decadancehallking10 жыл бұрын
Yep, some of these are new to me too

Lenworth Poyser What really surprised ne was learning how many gay sisters and brothers were also very active in the Movement, risking their lives and well being for a people to whom they belonged but who largely rejected them (or would reject them if they knew they were gay). I once read a statement by Huey P. Newton in defense of rights of gay people, and admonishing us against our homophobia. And think of all the gay folk in the Church --the Black Church which is often a pillar of our homophobia. We straight Black folk owe our gay sisters and brothers a HUGE apology.

@John Kimber Alot of the time with everyday people it's not true. If you are a female and you like to wear pants to work some men will start to make accusations that you are gay. If they don't like how you are dressed or wear your hair, they say you look like a man and spread rumours. If they want to date you and you are not interested in them they say you are gay. Unless it comes out of someone's mouth then I don't believe it. I know alot of the older females in this list who were married to men in their younger years. So they would be considered bi-sexual if true. People joked about gay people before the 70s and still privately tell the same jokes. They just do it quietly because of political correctness.

It's funny you mention that because I knew I hadn't included everyone and I had plans to release versions 2, 3, 4, etc. but never got around to it. You've inspired me to find those videos and put them up because this video is only the tip of the iceberg, there are so many deserving and worthy men to introduce to the world. Thank you for the gentle reminder and nudge for me to continue this work. Oh yeah, check out my tees on the comingoutblack.com website and I'm working on a series with the names of black gay men see www.amazon.com/dp/B07RSG3RBL. Peace and Blessings to you always!!

Every page I have search just gives the description on the man, no info on his sexuality. Links or references appreciated...

James Cleveland I just found out from a psychic that it is so appalling how evil he was that even in hell right now the psychic said that he's burning in hell right now but even in hell right now he's saying he wishes he had a body to come back to earth and have sex with more boys young boys I think he's the most evil of them all
@ladennayoung29394 жыл бұрын
@@shawbrothersgirl2740 Smh! Why would you believe that? Why would you entertain that? Why would you ask a psychic about someone that you don't know? People beg to escape from hell. So they can be free from torment. They don't think about committing sin there I'm sure.

What a sad life black people had,I'm so glad people are starting to realise they are born this way I would support with pride if anyone of my family were gay, the worst people against them seem to be religious and don't give me that it says so in the bible just think of the hell these people went through I'm sure God wouldn't want that.

Why is there such an incessant need to associate black people with homosexuality....Homosexuality globally is much more common amongst white people but I am constantly seeing these contrived agendas to put a black face on homosexuality....Most black people are not gay.....If that is what you want to do that’s your business but do not use an entire race to promote your agenda and do not dare compare being gay to the horrific experience that Foundational Black Americans have endured and continued to endure in this country.

Why put together this video about people's life with no confirmation? A few of them are not in question, but where was the confirmation? No fair to try to put info out there, without confirmation? It doesn't change the talent that they have, but it may change the view people have of them. Every person is talented in their own way. But unfortunately in today's society if you're different you're deemed not a great person. Their talent should speak for themselves!
