I'm sure social media didn't intend for it to become the monster it has. I loathe what it's done and doing, to society. It's made it so people do nit communicate as they did. Less face to face. You can't "grow" into friendships via this way of communicating this way almost incessantly. It's ruining the lives of the young in the social field. I don't like the world getting smaller at all. Give me pre mobile phone and computer invasion, any day. I watched Corrie from 1960 (first episode, until about 15 years ago. By then it was going downhill but I stated with it because of what was left of the original and previous casts but new storylines supposedly current tines and issues, we absolutely awful and the characters were abysmal. Much less of the moral compass evident. The humour and characters disappeared long ago. 😭

I was lucky enough to meet Violet Carson (Ena Sharples) when I was a 20-year-old bank cashier at a new branch of Barclays Bank in Euston Station. That was soon after the rail terminus was completely renovated and re-opened in 1968. Miss Carson cashed a cheque with me (those were the days!), presumably before catching her train to Manchester, and I remember her being a lovely, friendly, and very glamorous lady, full of smiles and compliments! In the early 1980s, I managed to acquire the autograph of Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth) who was making a personal appearance at a disco (then called 'Bangs') at the top of Charing Cross Road, London. A lively, witty lady, much in demand by autograph hunters! As a side issue, the Barclays branch at Euston Station (which is now an M & S 'Simply Food' outlet) was one of the first to introduce the original style of cash machine. As a cashier, we had to load this machine with packets of brand new One Pound notes (10 per packet), and the machine would operate by means of an arm with a suction pad on the end, which lifted a single packet from a pile within the machine, it swung across and placed it on the 'tray' which the customer would then pull open to retrieve the money! Customers had special vouchers for this purpose - Ten Pounds for every voucher!! Advanced technology in those days!! 😄

Has the Hilda Ogden character officially died in corrie? I remember they made an announcement on the show when deidre passed away
@mtm4a4 ай бұрын
@ACNC1 - I am not sure, but I think the difference was that Jean Alexander went on to play other characters for many years after she left Corrie in 1987, so relating her real-life demise in 2016 may not have been appropriate to build into the storyline at that belated time. Whereas Anne Kirkbride's passing in real life happened only three months after her last appearance in Corrie in October 2014. So she was very much in everyone's thoughts, and the producers/scriptwriters thought it was very appropriate to bring her passing into the storyline, and this was broadcast in July 2015.
