The whole concept of Henry making a video catching Lucy up on what she missed is now a real treatment people with this condition use because of this movie!

BTW, in case nobody else saw this: The pineapple is a symbol for Lucy's memory. The pineapple goes flying in the accident, representing her losing her memory. Dad gets a pineapple without her, representing Dad making sure Lucy doesn't remember the accident. Later, when Lucy and Henry are at the beach, there are a few pineapples on the ground, representing Lucy's memory slowly staying intact with the help of the tape.

What's really sad about this movie is that Henry and Lucy can never wake up next to each other smile. Every morning Lucy has to wake up looking at Henry as a stranger.
@Yugioh4208 ай бұрын
More likely they have to make sure either they sleep in separate beds, or Henry has to make absolutely sure his internal clock or more likely Lucy dad has to get him up and out the room before Lucy wakes up. Unless it's supposed to be implied she dreams about him Every Single Night in which case she might just wake up really confused that the man from her dreams is sleeping next to her

Honestly as an Alaskan born and raised, also grew up around boatmen/fishermen, they will absolutely be up with the sun if not before. I like to imagine it’s a very small sacrifice for Henry, especially since he’s a vet and he would be used to scheduling around animals.😊❤

Ah, man. I can't believe this movie is 20 years old. I was so young when it came out and to this day, I rewatch this film at least twice a year because of how believe it is. Adam and Drew work so well together and I always find their chemistry so believable and raw. But this movie? It's one I still cry at every time because of how powerful the scenes are. From them separating, to getting back together, to Lucy realizing she's married now and than a MOM. Tears. Every time

As a kid, this was only a kind of sad, mostly funny movie. But now as an adult, realizing the depths of how complicated such a life would be, and the amount of love you'd need to feel for that person, it's almost overwhelming.

There is something called the cellular memory theory which suggests that memories can be and are stored at the cellular level outside of the neuronal connections in the brain. Which means that while Lucy will probably never again have the capacity for conscious recollection of her short term memories, her body - save for her brain - does physically remember Henry. This is in part what probably explains the fact that she is singing and painting his face. It's a strange thing memory.

Fun fact: the part where the doctor is giving them a tour and talking , you can hear him mention Callahan auto parts. That is the same company in the movie Tommy boy starring Chris Farley and David spade. So basically it’s set in the same universe. It was a fun Easter egg hide that they added. And the doctor , actor Dan akroyd also plays the ceo of Callahan auto parts in the movie Tommy boy.

This movie has a very special place in my heart. I received diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in February 2004, so was pretty shaken up for quite some time and when I saw this movie - it gave me new hope. MS does not typically lead to heavy forgetting, but it my case it did and a decade later I was already similar to Lucy - remembering old stuff, while new information is unlikely to stay.

Glad you guys are watching this one together. Little funny fact about myself and this movie: my wife and I had our honeymoon in Hawaii a few years ago and one of the places we visited was Sea Life Park (one of the places this movie was filmed) And then that same night we watched this movie and we didn't realize until we saw it that it was filmed at the exact place we were just at that day. We felt so surprised and serendipitous that it just made it all the more special.

I LOVE this movie, always have. I even got in a car accident just like her, and got a brain injury too, but luckily nowhere near as bad. It's because there was a song playing during those scenes, so a lot of reactors mute it for copyright reasons.

@@viktoriejalovcova3038 ...In this case, there was no dialogue during those scenes because the song had someone singing lyrics in the background. But if there were dialogue, subtitles could always be put. I've seen some reactors do that.
@viktoriejalovcova30388 ай бұрын
@@brendag5263Yeah, I saw some reactors putting subtitles during those parts. But I meant your thoughts like I wanted to know what you and Timothee were saying. I'm not trying to be ungrateful, I enjoyed the reaction either way, just was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on those moments. It's okay if there isn't anything you can do about it. They based it off a real story when a man's wife was in an accident and her short term memory went small. He made things for her to remind her of it and remind her that they are married.
@rbrainsop18 ай бұрын
The thing about the trauma of waking up with a pregnant belly and such, is that to a certain extent, that's going to happen to her anyway. Maybe not pregnancy, but her body is going to change. She'll gain weight, have wrinkles, and aches, potentially even injuries or surgeries that she has no context for. There's no escaping that for her. Even moving to the center, she's now dealing with waking up in a strange place literally every day. So why deny herself the chance for a life she seems to want, just to avoid something that is ultimately unavoidable?
