For a gift I prefer a gift card for one of my local grocery stores…. Therefore I can buy and cook it.. some things I make I can freeze like soups and chili, and bake chickens, I don’t like buying the rotisserie chickens already cooked because I can’t control the salt..

Budgeting has become one of my favorite things to do! i have all bills written down and know what weeks they will be paid for the year. Then every Sunday afternoon, with a cup of tea, i do a weekly review of what I spent and if there is any extra money it goes into weekly savings challenges. This money is used for small home repairs or long weekend trips! Most of my freiends can not understand why I enjoy this. :)

I am 69 yrs old and retired. I am in some credit card debt, but I am on a (seemingly slow!) plan to becoming debt free. However, I really have no interest in going back to work or doing a side hustle. So, the question I ask myself before every purchase is.. "is this worth going back to work for?" The answer is always NO!

Number 25 is sooo true. Anytime I leave my place, I am spending money, somehow. Even if it’s just the gas in my tank. Staying home is the only true way to eliminate needless spending. Make your home a place you want to be. Number 41. I only purchase boxed cake mixes and tubs of frosting when they go on sale. When they ARE on sale, they’re much cheaper than what I can make from scratch.
@Patchouliprince

Note for making things from scratch, please make your own premixes, like pancake, cornbread, or cake mixes. They are so easy and cheap to make on your own at home and then you can grab the dry mix and all you have to do is add the wet ingredients. It’s super convenient takes little time to set up and saves you lots

I find your videos so authentic, genuine, warm and thoughtful! I have a bit of a twist on your tips on eating out and coffee out. At the weekend my husband and I went on a day trip. Instead of going out for lunch, we took some soup in a flask with us and had that in a park. And then we treated ourselves to coffee and cake instead in the afternoon. So we got a nice sit down and refreshment but about a quarter of the price.

@judysbakeryandtestkitchen1654 I'm sorry to hear that about your antenna. Hopefully soon there will be a good solution invented. We live near a ridge, and sometimes, when the weather is bad, some of the channels don't come in. We have a phone pole on our property, and my husband and a friend put our antenna near the top of the pole. For the most part it is exceptional. I hope we never need to replace it 😮

The cell phone carrier tip is so true! Last year I switched from a new-ish iPhone on a TMobile contract (total monthly payment $120 😵) to a used Google Pixel I bought outright on a US Mobile phone plan. Unlimited talk/text and more data than I'll ever need for $29 a month. Have had no issues whatsoever with the phone service and the customer service has been great. Saved me SO MUCH room in my budget, almost $100 a month savings is insane, plus I'm a bit less screen addicted on an Android!

Thank you for these wonderful tips! One thing we do is use credit cards with cash back rewards and we earn about $100 a month in rewards to put in our investment account. We use these reward cards for groceries, movies, gas, eating out, even paying our rent and we earn between 1% and 6% on these expenses cash back. This only works because we pay off our credit card bill in full at the end of the month ❤

Jennifer, I think you'd be proud of me. I am changing job locations (same company, different location) closer to me. So close, it's across the highway. Which will save on time, money, gas, etc. Energy, even. W/ this switch I earned myself an extra $2.75 total. I will be putting that away, absolutely. I'm excited for the savings. I did reach my 10k this year, after 2 years of savings. My weakness is book spending! I am building up my day room to be a home library, though. It's not really a waste to me, but I do need to it within budget. My goal is to have 3 book walls. Is it necessary? No. It's just something I want. So I treat it like that. I did take a few days and went on a book trip w my partner. I just picked a place on the map, rented a cute house w/ a hot tub, and visited all the local book shops.....because I planned it. And I finally reached that sweet 10k. Now I gotta grind hard again for the next 10k. My goal is land & a paid for house. I also like donating money, but I need to be very careful with it. I know that. So I do budget and am very careful who & why. I am not so great at tracking but my system works. I divvy up my stuff in on line and physical envelopes. I use the cash back system, so my phone & electric bill are automated. I think I can get my water on auto too. Then When that's accumulated I will pay it off from each folder & take from where the money comes from. Once you get your first 10k, it's easy to over do it. But I think I am gonna do a no spend as well in December, perhaps January as well. Ive done it before, it's great to detox. We aren't doing holidays this year, saying no to that. I just dont wanna do the gifts and all the extra decor. Blech. Save that $. Anyway, popped in to say hi. Thanks for all the great videos! Happy saving!

My daughter and son-in-law had a new house built. The went to an Amish community to have their bedroom suite, desk, bookcase, desk, sofa, and mud room cabinet built. Yes it was expensive, but these items will last them the rest of their lives and probably those of their children and grandchildren. One of the things that helps is to maintain your furnace and A/C systems. Keeping them up to date and changing out filters when needed. Helps with overall operation of them.

I agree with you about Amish built furniture. Three years ago we replaced dressers and nightstands in our daughter’s old bedrooms that we use for guest rooms now. They are custom made and will be inherited by our daughters. We also bought a custom made shed from an Amish company. The quality, durability and attention to detail in all their products is excellent and worth the investment.

Meal plan definitely keeps me from overspending on groceries and takes the stress away of figuring out what to make for dinner during the week as I have it mapped out already and the week of meals is on a dry erase board on the fridge so everyone knows what’s going to be fir dinner . Also use a lot of casserole and crock pot since it gives leftovers and makes that week so much easier with less cooking !! And it saves money !!

I was scrolling through on my phone and seen your video. This is so spot on what you're saying. But for me it's a struggle for me to try and save any money because I'm on a fixed income. I recieve SSDI from Social Security. I've been recieving this since 2013. It's a struggle because I have to use this for the rent, electric bill, and to pay on the cellphone bill, which I'm on a plan with my brother. There's barely anything left to put groceries in the house. My brother and sister help me with rent and contribute their portion on the rent which is very helpful. But, we're hoping that the rent doesn't go up. It''s hard for a lot of people who are recieving disability income that doesn't go very far or having to return back to work part time or have a side hussle job. This inflation is hurting people all around the world. 🌎 I just pray that somehow things will get better. Blessings to you. 🙏

Leave online purchases in the cart for several days or a week or two. Often I find that I just remove many items from the list and never buy them. If you stop to think about it for a while, you can often eliminate the purchase entirely.

Great ideas! Our libraries here in Mass. have what they call “a library of things” that they loan out. I had a cookout this summer and I got all the yard games For the grandkids at the library including a bubble machine! So I love the libraries

I am starting us on our frugal journey. I know it probably isn't conventional and isn't available for everyone, but I did end up consolidating about 10k worth of our credit cards. We still have other credit card debt, but I put the 10k towards our highest interest/highest balance cards. We were originally paying approximately 350 a month on 10k worth of credit card debt and with the small loan we are paying about 160 a month for the same debt. I plan on taking the extra almost 200 and snowball that onto the other smaller credit cards to tumble those down. I also recently paid off my car and that is another 245 I plan on stacking in with the 200 dollars I am saving from the consolidation. It feels so good to have a direction and plan. I feel like I have room to breath and not feeling so smothered.

These tips are all spot on!! I was smiling throughout your video. We changed our insurance for home and auto this month for the upcoming year and saved almost $1400 between both. My daughter and son in law changed their car insurance and saved $2500 for the year. They had nothing on their driving record, and I feel like the insurance company was taking advantage of their age (24) and the original agent said that was the best they could find. Which was a lie as the insurance carrier they ended up going with the agency also carried. I am a firm believer in shopping around for insurance and unfortunately you can’t take your agents word no matter how long you have been with them!!! We stay home a lot, but it hit me watching this. We live a very simple life and our home is very clean, simple, and minimal. Our friends NEVER invite us over to their home, always try to avoid being at their own house, and always want to come over to ours. Why? Because their house and life is a complete mess and they just can’t relax there so they do everything they can to avoid their own home. I could probably comment on every tip you provided as I completely agree with them. Even the dog needing his teeth cleaned. It’s on my December things to do for an appointment in January or February. 😂

I’m on social security I just want to do a $500 savings challenge for 2025 to add to my emergency fund , I saved $500 in 2023 and 650.00 so far in 2024.. and tracking my expenses has helped.. I do a no spend month every 3 months, even with groceries.. I save any money I don’t spend in groceries and reset my budget every month to the same amount for food …. I want to pay off 2 small credit cards in 2025.. it bothers me when seniors can’t buy groceries.. And we see it more and more..

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but after you've tackled the credit card debt, It may take years....make sure that you pay your credit card in FULL every month...No fail!! I have been doing this for 14 years now. No worries. Don't charge...IF...you don't intend to pay it at the end of the month.
