Michigan: If you go to Detroit, it’s not too bad, just avoid the bad parts and like New York guy said, never look like you’re lost. Never wear winter clothes unless it’s below 40 degrees, learn how to drive in the snow, don’t ask locals about how bad Detroit is, we get sick of it, and get used to snow, because once December starts, it doesn’t go away until late spring.

For California you can tell out-of-towners just by the sunglasses they wear. Go to your local boardwalk and just observe how everyone is chill, fit, tan, friendly, and their keen laid back well worn easy to wear clothes. Go to a local surf shop to get the cool Cali sunglasses you won't find in the mall Sunglasses Hut.

In Texas, definitely greet people---we'll say hi walking down the street, standing in line, wherever, just say hey, good morning, or whatever, but no need to launch into your life story. Don't show up in a giant cowboy hat and boots---outside of rural areas, most people are transplants in big cities who wear city style clothing. Don't constantly point out that we say ya'll. Either just naturally adapt to saying it, or don't. You're allowed to complain about the heat, the traffic, construction, a rival sports city, and Californians. You are NEVER allowed to claim another state's BBQ is better than ours.
