Assalamu alaikum is actually a Du'a for the person or people you're speaking to. A beautiful way to say Hello! Masha'Allah. The brother is correct using mar'haba as hello instead is more slang. Ahlan wa sahlan is welcome (as a warm greeting), but obviously depends on the country you're from. Why classical Arabic and modern standard are the best ways to learn how to speak to almost every Arabic speaker, with exception of Morocco (no offense intended).

Thank you for the help you have given me. The few words made me connect with both students (who practiced English on their turn) and adults. Egyptian Arabic is slightly simpler, however it gave me a good start. Thank you again!

I think your style of teaching is more suitable for Arab learners of ESL. طريقتك كويسة جداً بس لشرح الإنجليزي للعرب مش العكس، كمان انتي بتخلطي بين اللغة العربية الفصحى، ولغة الشارع المصري، أتمنى تلاحظي كده، على الأقل عشان اللي بيتابعك يستفاد.

Three ways to say hello Marhaban does mean hello Al salam Alaykum means peace be with you, but it is a common greeting and an Arab equivalent to hello And 'ahlan which also means hello

Depending on what you want, but modern standard Arabic MSA will give access to ppl as well books whereas dialect is limited geographically and also everything other than conversation in that region

Southern Levantine Arabic. I was only in Yaffa, Ramallah, Yeriha, and al-Quds, but is it really so segregated you don’t have Arab friends and neighbors who you can learn from? Like a Californian asking what dialect of Spanish he should learn. The answer’s Mexican btw. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Arabic
