I'm on #17 and my brain is already full - I consider myself quite technical and competent with synthesis/sound design and have somehow missed all but 2 of these capabilities so far, despite having already fallen in love with Vital and spending many many hours going down what I previously considered "the rabbithole" 🤯 So now I am pressing pause and mastering these 15 new techniques before continuing on with the rest of your video. This is like going to Vital college, for real Thank you SO MUCH for this deep deep deep dive, I can't wait to see what else this beautiful instrument has in store!

This is a fantastic source of information, thank you! If I could just give a small uber-technical note.. When you modulate the phase with an LFO its Phase Modulation, FM is when you modulate the pitch (or frequency). Sorry to be that guy, I'm sure thats something you already know. It was just something that was nagging at me though. :3 Your content is phenomenal though. You've got actual helpful tips to inspire people to create their own patches instead of just running through a patch you made so people can copy it, which is something I genuinely appreciate.
@DashGlitch2 жыл бұрын
You’re right yes, however all plugins that state FM are using PM instead, except phase plant ;) the cake is a lie haha
@brailyndsummers2 жыл бұрын
@@DashGlitch I've heard such in regards to serum specifically. I mean can you blame them? PM sounds very similar, some might argue better if there is such a thing when comparing different forms of synthesis. I have yet to get phase plant but the videos I've seen look insane and it appears to me that it's incredibly intuitive with the way it implements modulators specifically but the oscillators are kind of neat as well. This is a slight bit of a tangent; and I know FM8 is old as dirt, but do you think that it is actually utilizing PM as well? Not that it even matters but you reminding me of other synths using PM disgused as FM had me curious.
@DashGlitch2 жыл бұрын
@@brailyndsummers FM8 uses the algorithms from the DX7 which was the original PM sold as FM design. I'm pretty certain it implements it using PM as well. PM requires far less resources and generally tracks the pitch correctly over the sweep, while true FM can detune the carrier signal.
@brailyndsummers2 жыл бұрын
