50 Ton AAON Roof top HVAC Unit, No Cooling Service Call

Service call of no cooling on this 50 ton Aaon roof top unit. 3 of 4 compressor not operating. This is a common problem with these units. I will explain what the issue is and what I need to do to fix it.

In this video I take a look at a Aaon roof top unit experiencing issue with poor cooling performance. I share some techniques and tips with this issue as I have experienced this problem at other job sites with similar units . I am a NJ Master HVACR contractor license holder, home renovator and handyman. I have extensive experience in the HVAC field along with adequate knowledge in plumbing, electrical and carpentry to perform most tasks around a house. Thank you for sharing. I have a 60 ton that shut down about 30min. And restart when there is 73 + oat and the third compressor kicks in. I never see the 4th run at anytime. I replaced the 4th comp. contactor and it run good for 5 days and start shutting down. advice.

Those look very similar in layout to the C box lennox units (15+ ton units) LGC/LGA/LGH type models.

greetings from south florida. i noticed the packard brand contactor: absolute garbage. I've had those bad right out of the box... smh

Thats crazy I have not had that experience with packard contactors but I do prefer Square D or Eaton.

The 3.2 amp resetable transformer should trip when contractor goes bad, contactors don't kinda go bad they ground and fail, they pull big amp draw, even if chattering they pull big amp draw. Worked on AAON for 20 years & 80+% off the time I'm working on AAON... bet you something is miss wired, lots of same color wires in same place, never seen what your describing B4 on regular bases, just trying 2 help. If they are pulling over 1.5A but under 3.2(or even 6.4 when 2 trans wired parallel) something is wrong, could be 24VDC barely grounding through limit or wire somewhere, but contactor failing should not cause this. Been on thousands of aaon units personally.

This unit has CCN controls which stages on all the compressors individually as needed

AAONS are the biggest POS out there. Well, one of them. 37 years doing HVAC service and all of the manufactures forgot the KISS principal.
