50 Year Old BMW Pedal Assembly Transformation! | BMW 2002 BUILD

It's time to dive deeper into the manual swap on the 2002 project and in this video, we cover the disassembly and cleaning of the manual pedal assembly for the swap!
While it may not seem like a huge step, this took a ton of work to get done but it is also something very rewarding to do. With this project, I've learned to appreciate the smaller things that make up the car and the BMW 2002, to me, is worth paying attention to those smaller things and this whole pedal rebuild process encouraged me to maintain this type of outlook on this build.
While I may not go as in depth with cleaning/rebuilding every part on this car as I did this part, I will definitely be spending more time than I normally would to get this car fixed up and looking nice than I had done on previous builds 😁

I owned a BMW 2002. I bought it as a gift to myself when I returned from Operation Desert Storm. Before I join the ARMY I knew a girl that was going to the University of Arizona that drove a absolutely beautiful red 2002. Apparently her father was a car guy. She grew up in scottsdale Arizona. I knew nothing about the small car except for it was a BMW. At first I thought it was just a qerky car. But it grew on me. Then I met a guy that raced them. He told me all about them. I was hooked. I had no money and lost interest. A few years later I found myself in the army. After nearly a year in Saudi Arabia and Iraq with nothing to spend my money on I came home to a pretty good size bank account. What do I buy? A new Honda Civic? A Toyota truck? A Jeep? I know! One of those cool BMWs !!! Now years later It’s time for another BMW2002. I’M looking for a super nice one. Saving my money so that I can buy one that is in super good condition. Especially the body. Engine not so important. That can be rebuilt. I would love to find one that has been beautifully/professionally restored.

Easy Off.....GENIUS! Old dog-new trick.....no more Gunk $$$ for me. Question? why powdercoat? is this a show car? (ok 2) I found Seymoure CAST BLACK/ALUMINUM work great for my daily driver.

Haha its a cheap and great heavy degreaser 😁 I want the car to be as clean as I can reasonably make it and powdercoating it was an easy option since I knew a guy but just a little pricy. I also didn't feel like painting it either since I knew it wouldn't last as long as the powdercoat and I didn't want to worry about scratching it through the paint and having it rust. I may have to give that Seymoure paint a try on some other parts in the future though!

My pedal box is almost out but I'm having trouble removing the accelerator pedal arm. I removed a bolt and nut from underneath the car and the spring but still not coming out? What's the trick?

Hrmm is it stuck in the plastic bushing in the pedal box? Or is it stuck to the bracket where the nut and bolt were connected? I don't remember the whole process too well but im thinking it could be seized/stuck where it goes though the plastic bushing in the pedal box. I could be wrong however!

Thanks for the tip man! I actually do watch that guy as well as some other restoration youtubers and I considered putting "restoration" in my title but I feel like my work isn't exactly up to par with their level of restoring and I don't want my subpar work to be compared to their level of work/detail 😅 might give it a try though!
