One minor correction. HandyGCCS is my project, going back multiple years to the AYANEO 2021. Phil has a fork of it where we were working on the OrangePi integration before it was publicly announced, through various iterations of the hardware and firmware. We should be close to the final firmware and all that will be cleaned up for merging back into main soon.

Could be intriguing using monjaro but i think this will only appeal to the curious market and not much else, especially for $500. Considering that the rog ally can be found for $400 these days i don't think this one has a fighting chance... I think the sweet spot for handhelds is $300 or less if they want to stand a chance to get some of the steam deck's pie. (Spare me the logistics)...with handhelds coming out every few months these days they're going to need a little something more to justify the high price tag if it's over $400.

What I want to know is if the OS will be available for people to install in their own machines or if they'll do it like VAVLE
@jasper2657 ай бұрын
Interesting. Based on Orange Pi's track record, I was expecting it to come without an OS installed, the images they provide to be broken and for users to rely on community images instead. This does look a lot better than that. However, it's still too expensive for me to take the gamble that the software will be fully featured and won't be abandoned way too quickly.

For me, the steam deck is the LAST 16:10 pc handheld i will ever buy. Love my deck but hate how it normalized that aspect ratio in all gaming laptops and handhelds.
@rbdunne7 ай бұрын
Why? I like the extra space on the top and the bottom and it's often good for emulation. Even if you run your game at 720p you can have the fps or batt up on the black bar
@oo--77147 ай бұрын
Gaming laptops had it way before the steam deck lol. Though you are right, the black bars are never good.
@johnsducks98167 ай бұрын
@oo--7714 some had it before but now it's like 95% of gaming laptops almost all of them are 16:10
@johnsducks98167 ай бұрын
@rbdunne because I use my deck like a switch and often plug it and unplug it from my TV and it is annoying to have to close every game before plugging it into the TV then re open them, and even then it requires going into the settings and manually changing the aspect ratio a decent amount of the time. And a decent amount of games just don't support 16:10 at all. also I would use it to plug into my TV to play downloaded movies in desktop mode if it was 16:9, I wouldn't have a problem with it if I used it only in handheld but any device that is within its expected use case to plug into a TV should just be 16:9 for ease. You could see it as extra screen on top and bottom, or you could view it as less screen on left and right, it's really the same amount of screen either way.

Not my fault most of the Chinese handhelds are poorly constructed, Chinese businesses can make something decent when they try but they don’t always choose to. Lenovo is more of an international company. "Lenovo's principal facilities are in Beijing, Singapore, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States, with research centres in Beijing, Singapore, Morrisville, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Wuhan and Yamato (Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan)."

@@protocetidThere are tons of crappy companies in the US too. Just admit that you were expressing a bit of racial bias, and we can move on. It doesn't mean you're a bad person (I mean you might be..I don't know), but we all have biases. The only reason there are more Chinese companies doing anything is because there are more Chinese people than any other country. There are good, bad and in between quality of products produced there, just like anywhere else. And honestly, trying to extract Lenovo from China just because it doesn't fit your narrative is weak AF.
