This week we continue Project Jigsaw, our 1960's inspired supercar project based on a Porsche Boxster. We spend time getting the metal work on the nose of the car dialed in, to help find the total vision. Come along as Tony and Ryan problem-solve the complex engineering behind this project, and take jabs at each other all along the way!

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again… the reason this channel is so satisfying is that it’s the perfect blend of design and engineering mixed with tactical execution tips along the way. Ryan and Tony are a powerful team!

The best series on KZbin, I’ll reiterate my previous comment about it being my mid 30’s “Saturday CAR-toons”. Would love to see more long form like last week, I know it’s a big lift, but man was having 40 min to watch and enjoy coffee a dream!!!

Fellas, this looks so much better! I'm glad you thought the same as me, that the nose was too tall. Happy it was just because it wasn't tuned in yet. I was also dubious about the grill opening. I thought the driving light buckets made it look cartoonish. However, with the lights mocked up, it looks much much better! Just an optical illusion, looking like the holes were part of the grill.
@FilmoreISnAZN
@FilmoreISnAZN 28 күн бұрын
your comments on the grill/light placement is my thinking too. Once Tony held the fixture in the opening, I became sold. The placement is giving me Lancia Stratos rally light placement or almost AM Victor/Valour. I think I wish the placement was slightly wider, but maybe would intrude on the wheel well.

Thanks for sharing this process. I'm a retired designer in my mid-70s, so lived through the era you are using as inspiration. May I suggest using the driving lights as headlights and allowing the fender fronts to be w/o light buckets. I realize there are some headlight height issues, but you can overcome those assuming you can register the car with them low.

Thank you so much for this content. It's simply the most interesting build I've seen. It's up there with Rob's 4-rotor, and Christopher Rünge's cars. Okay, I want to provide some constructive criticism, and I hope you'll simply try to apply my idea conceptually to a drawing or render so that you can make an informed decision. I'm going to say, as of now, I don't love the front end smile grill/lights, though I did love your creation process. I've watched every episode of this build series as they were released and I've waited to see if it would grow on me, but so far it hasn't. The round lower lights remove all perceived aggressiveness. I'm my opinion, I would humble like to suggest period-correct rectangular Hella diving lights. I think they would fit much better if they were incorporated into the existing lines. Thanks guys.

I'd like to build something similar to this with a Mazda Miata, extend the front end out about 8"- 10" at the wheelbase. And around another 4"- 6" on the nose . And about 5"-7" on the rear and widen it atleast 8"(4" per side with 2" fender flares.wide enough to fit 17-18" x 10" rims in the rear and 8" in the front . Use early 2000's Corvette front suspension with c4 Vette style rear diff and suspension . Using a modified 9" center section with custom housing to use the independent rear suspension. Possibly cast a center housing to fit a 9" center. Use a stubby axel with bearings and seals in a 15-20, and 25-30 mm housing thickness bolting to a tubular k member. Using Vette components with adjustable coil over shocks. Possibly air suspension. Air bag over shocks. Using a 6 speed manual, 3.55 gears, and a 6.0 LS block bored with 4.8L crank with long rods. And a couple twin scroll turbos with a 7200 red line(+/-) use diverter valves to spool the turbos. They should start making boost by 1000-1250 rpm or atleast zero vacuum by 1000 rpm and 5-7 psi by 1600-1800 Level out around 2400-3000 then peak around 20 psi 5550-7k+ with the diverter valve fully off around 2500 rpm . With the body being wider at the fenders and quarters quickly narrowing at the doors, and incorporating break cooling scoops in this area in the rear. Possibly a addition for the doors to ease the transition. A 6 point cage attaching to the tubular front frame approximately 2"x6" steel tubing as the frame rails with 1.625"- 1.750"tubing and 1.25"-1.50" with .500" SQ tubing to build the front body bracing. No popup headlights . Possibly shape the front facia to accept 20 Camaro headlights and taillights with a small air dam and splitter. Keeping the air from under the vehicle. The engine should produce atleast 900hp at the tires. The front body mods should allow the use of two radiators similar to the Porsche.to allow the aerodynamics to be improved the radiator tilted forward with a scoop under, with venting above. To allow the high speed air passing over the body to pull air through the radiator. Keeping around 70-80% of the air hitting the front if the vehicle. It either goes to the sides, over the body or through the cooling system. And hen over the body. Allowing about 12-16" wide center area about 6" tall to be a cool air intake in the center. Acting as a scoop with small ducts going to the brakes if needed and to the driver for fresh air. And the hood being a forward tilt much like the 80's vette taking the nose with and the fender tops. The fender flares providing a parting line. Making it all from carbon fiber would be awesome. I'd be tempted to make it light as possible then. Cutting up the body making carbon replacement panels. Door skins, the inner door dash , door panels, maybe most of the roof maybe panels in the floors. A cobra crossed with a gt body would be cool. The other idea I have had was a Miata with a bridge ported rotor engine and a 6speed. Turbo. It would be an awesome little car . Sorry to ramble! Have an awesome day!

I think it would look really cool if you put the hella fog lights in just how you have them but also surround them with a halo led which you could run separately just for a slightly more modern aesthetic that is hidden from the eye. I love the project and the entire idea of it but I do think just completely avoiding modern tech is a mistake as we have come so far and obviously the suspension and other drivetrain/chassis components are already modern. Would be a really cool way to tie it all together to have some "modern" features hidden in plain sight! Always look forward to your videos regardless of what direction you go!
