500 Miles Commuting by Bike in 30 days!

Been doing this since 2020. Sold my vehicle and went full bike/moped. My work commute isn’t nearly as long as yours, but it’s around 5 miles (if I take the shortest route). I’m in the Midwest so I encounter the snow/winter which I admit sucks the fun from riding, but not entirely. My only loss is needing to take another change of clothes to the office. I leave my office clothes in my office and change when I come in. I tried the same clothes method but I sweat, which obviously impacts your appearance. The biggest change (aside from the huge amount of money saved from being car free) is the perception my coworkers have of me, so many can’t believe I’ve sold my car and just ride my bike, for nearly everything. Apparently it’s such a foreign concept to many. For those reading, yes there are times I need a vehicle, but I can rent a pickup truck from uhaul or Home Dept, complete the vehicle needed task, and return the liability. I can rent the truck a dozen times in a year and still be far ahead than if I owned it.

I’ve been car-free in NW Arkansas since June 2020. Best decision of my life. The experience made me realize how much I hated driving. And for days that the weather is just bad…just call a Lyft. I use a single speed 6KU I bought second hand…cheap to maintain. Just recently bought a longboard, so I can split between Lyft and commuting w/o a car. Car free is possible

That's cool . I commute 120 mi every week for the last 2 yrs plus my weekends. I love it. So peaceful . I'm in Florida. The storms are always fun and very wet lol.

I own a car but rarely use it. A bike is a great way to get around town for work and daily errands. It's much more fun and relaxing than driving in the city traffic for me. I have an old MTB converted to a city bike with wide road tires, fenders and a rack for panniers. Bikes can be so much more than just recreation and sport. They can be a very useful tool for transportation.

Maybe add a 4th bike, fixed gear. Is fixed a reasonable option? Or, no?

Was going to ask the same. Started watching the channel for the fixed gear content, but remained to watch the channel evolve. I commute around the same distance to work on fixed gear. Do you start your day in your sweaty clothes? I'm lucky to have a shower at work, but recently have switched to baby wipes and a change of clothes.
