My next endeavor is looking over Wera's screwdriver collection - and this isn't even all of it. I'll eventually dial in what I think is the best collection for Basic, Advanced, and Ultimate Packages. In the meantime, I'll gather what I want, and the rest I'll either sell or punt.

When I was 14 years old, I started working at a Porsche/VW shop. My first “Professional” tool kit was a set of Snap On Screwdrivers. (Besides my Sears Craftsman tools). A customer came in, grabbed one of my Snap On Screwdrivers from my toolbox without asking. He ran off into the parking lot. He was changing his license plate frame. I asked him if he wanted me to change it for him. He got angry, and said “what are you afraid of loosing your stupid screwdriver? What’s the big deal?!” Then he got in his car and drove off with my new Snap On Screwdriver. He taught me a valuable lesson, Don’t Lend Your Tools! It was basically a $40 lesson.

This is absolutely INSANE!......... AND I FREAKIN' LOVE IT HAHAHA! Definitely OCD on the organization front, but I do the same thing only much smaller scale lol. I'll spend days sometimes weeks in catalogues or on websites trying to research all the options and which ones suit what I'm looking for best. I can't stand buyers remorse and I try to put in the work ahead of time to alleviate any question if something is going to be what I want. Definitely order single pieces of things to compare and get a hands on feel to them. And I absolutely cants stand things not having a place or a specific home in my collection of tools. I find the laying out / organizing / checking in / and deciphering where things will go almost relaxing or therapeutic. Can't wait to see more of this endeavor!

I useto work as a tool rep, I was also a mechanic, I left that and went to university for mechanical engineering. My fathers a mechanical engineer, my grandad was a mechanic my great-granddad was a mechanic from someone that’s spent their whole life around tools literally since I was a baby. Your best way to do this is to take advice from the field you’re focusing on. The companies that make tools like screwdrivers approach tools from all angles “electrical, mechanical, installation etc” You've caught onto this with your comment I probably wouldn't use this torx maybe once or twice. The specialty bit sets are best for mechanics (security screws, hex, torx) For screwdrivers the best option is JIS and the best manufacturer of JIS screwdrivers is Anex or KTC. Anex is top tier when it comes to individual JIS bits The best non ratcheting bit driver is made by Wiha (Wiha takes both bit hex types Japanese and US) Best plier brand is Knipex to an extent the best needle nose pliers are made by Snap-On (47ACF’s) The best precision pliers are probably made by Fujiya Japan

HF stands for holding function, which they also have available on sockets and bigger Torx/Allen bits. I think the Wera torque wrenches are manufactured by the same Taiwanese company as the Sonic versions. They look very similar to me.

Another screw driver brand you may want to consider is vessel, they have a few features which are great for the automotive context, namely the wood handle and the hammer-able metal cap on the end. The wood handles are great for longevity and dealing with being covered in oil, and the metal caps are great when you need them... The only feature missing on those is the flats to grab it with a wrench, but I think Nepros makes a set with the above features and the flats on the shank... Ave has a great series on these which may be worth referencing

@AlexanderLuberg
@AlexanderLuberg Жыл бұрын
Since all the screwdrivers and tools are usually on the wall or in drawers it seems super wasteful to have all the Velcro packages. sockets and bits sets are incomplete and are not matching with either Velcro or foam inlays. I wish I could just buy all sockets in deep/short/sae/metric, ideally with foam inlays.

You obviously earn a good income, theirs nothing wrong with having a hobby. Plus if you review the screwdrivers you are doing a service for most mortals that just want one good set. I designed mechanic hand tools and tool boxes for a Tiawan company. I lived in Tiawan while I’d did QC. I always tried to design high quality tools at affordable prices. You would of been a good person to send the end result to, & get your feedback.

Have you seen Wright Tools? They are a pretty cool USA manufacturer and kind of do their own "curated" model; they have various sets and will leverage different manufacturers for tools outside their core (e.g. Chanellock for pliers). Wright Grip wrenches are arguably some of the best out there and the sockets are top-notch as well. Ratchets are old-school round-head style which is not everyone's cup of tea I suppose.
