Nice video. Yep, as others have commented, that unusual screwdriver has a combination Phillips and slotted tip that’s intended primarily for fasteners used in electrical applications/installations. This style of driver goes by various names (Xeno drivers, Terminal drivers, PlusMinus drivers, etc.). I’ve also seen them simply referred to as Phillips/Slotted drivers. There are also Pozidriv/Slotted versions of this same driver type. The fasteners meant to be used with these special drivers all have heads that will correspond to the shape of the driver’s tip. I’ve encountered these fasteners in wired light switches that I’ve swapped out around my house. Curiously, I’ve also encountered these same fasteners in some cabinet hinges that I had to swap out in my house a while back. Cheers! 🥃😎

I use the Wiha Xeno for receptacle fasteners and a few times on a green grounding screw on a light fixture. That's funny you found those +/- fasteners on the cabinet hinges! 😀 I just figured PZ and PH were the only ones used for cabinet hardware. I guess some really older ones might use slotted as well.

@@Tools_and_Guitars Yep, those funky cabinet hinges came with those +/- fasteners! Luckily, I have some Wiha insulated Xeno drivers that did the job just fine. I’ve heard that some IKEA furniture sets come with these fasteners too. Cheers, man. 🥃

I’ve been in industrial electrical for over 20 years, the button head machine screws for mounting cover plates I use have a full cut across for flat blade and two small cuts for Phillips #2. Either driver works perfectly, it doesn't matter the one I use. Seriously, I thought what a great idea, the weird driver is actually made for that screw. I guess for more torque plus non slip, never owned one, hmmm.

Fairly new subscriber. I started watching a few months back after buying a fixer upper and the tools I had that were handed down were not cutting it. Appreciate the videos and education I have gotten here. I have built out a nice new set taking advantage of the early black Friday deals that started in the beginning of November through actual black Friday. I have put together a set of tools I think most contractors would be jealous of. I just laid it all out and purchased 13 tools from Knipex consisting of the linesman, longnose, 3 different size cobras, cobalt's, 2 plier wrenches, Cutiex, forged wire strippers, twin grips, diagonal cutters and bolt end clippers all with comfort grips. Then from PB Swiss I bought the set of six striking heavy duty screwdrivers with the black swiss grips, The none ratcheting stubby, the black 100m ratcheting insider and size 4 dead blow hammer. Then a stabila level set and lastly the Green Fastcap tape measure. most things I found where 30 to 60% off which means I still spent a small fortune but could of been much worse any other time of the year.

I use similar drivers at work a pozidriv slotted combo for automatic breakers and other din mounted equipment. The one's I use are from PB swiss PB 5180 SL. Yours on the other hand seems to be a Philips and slotted combo.

I got several items from the KC Tool black Friday sale! Picked up the Knipex stripping tweezers for coated wires, along with different diameter blades for it, a pair of Knipex high leverage 12-degree diagonal cutters, a Gedore stripping knife for taking the sheathing off of multi-conductor cables, a pair of Knipex plastic tweezers and the 5-piece Witte Maxx screwdriver set. I don't normally see these brands on sale very often, so I jumped on those deals! Oh, and the 13-piece sticker pack 🐺🔧

07:18 In some applications you find screws that are for phillips head drivers but also have a slot for a flat head driver. Maybe this screw driver is for those screws.

the ph/s2 and ph/s1 insulated screwdrivers are used with various electric connections enclosures and the pz/s2 and pz/s1 (yes, there are pozidrive versions too) are usually used with circuit breakers and distribution blocks all over europe; I have no idea on what you can use those specialty models in america though :)

Found a few good deals on Black Friday. The US PB Swiss site was 50% off which really is a phenomenal deal for PB Swiss. Picked up some torx keys, driver bits, and a few odds and ends. Getting close to having everything that I could conceivably use of thiers. Koken was 25% so I picked up some of their Nut Grip sockets, which seem like they will make starting any bolts or nuts a lot easier. And of course, KC Tool. Got the Heyco Screwdrivers, NWS Pliers Wrench, and the Wera Kraftform Kompact. Also scored a few good deals from Amazon: some forstner bits, spade bits, and a huge Nicholson rasp. Overall, pretty happy with the deal I found. Was looking at the same Wera driver set, but felt like I really ~only~needed to buy so many screwdriving things that day. lol. Great video as always.

That’s an electricians tip, fits most electrical screws that are both flat head and Phillips. Klein makes one as well, not sure if it’s insulated though.

That PH/S driver is a slotted Philips there are screws used in some electrical equipment that have what look slotted but also looks like a Philips so those slotted Philips drivers help you grab those heads with more positive feedback

I'm not 100% certain but I think that Phillips with the shoulders is like Milwaukee's ECX #1 and #2. It's mostly a slot to give torque in an electrical box but is also part Phillips so it doesn't slip out.

Where can I find this exact set? Doesn’t seem to be on KC tools or Amazon?

The driver that confused you is used in control panels here in the UK. They’ve been around for a few years. I’ve posted on your channel in the past, I’ve spent over £600 just on drivers in the last 6/7 years, mainly Klein, but Bahco Stanley Wera Wiha Armeg Irazola too, but the crazy thing is my most used driver is a large slotted one I found somewhere. It’s a DIY chain home brand I’d never normally touch with a barge pole, but it’s been invaluable to my EDC 🤣😁😂 I’ve been eyeing up the yellow Wera drivers for a bit so this has edged me towards getting some. I’ve had the insulated ones ones in the past, they were ok but the laser tips didn’t quite blow me away, but I loved the grip, and I loved the fact they were fairly short.

00:17 The correct pronunciation is "Vera" with a "V" as in the english word "very", by the way. Since your "Knipex" is so beautifully correct at this point, i thought i'd nudge you on to the next step on your hazardous journey through German toolmakers' names, brother. ^^

I believe the odd shaped, Phillips/not Phillips is specifically for the screw on a switch or outlet. Those are not really regular slotted/ Phillips combo screws. Find a switch or extra outlet and see how it fits. I am betting it’s made just for that one purpose and no other.
