5000 Miles In An Audi RS6 Performance | RS6 Review

In the short amount of time i have owned the Audi RS6 Performance I have already racked up 5,000 miles on the car. I thought this was the perfect time to share with you what it it's like living with the RS6, it's awesome acceleration, incredible exhaust sound and beautiful interior...except for the cup holders!

I was in a drifting course recently with an RS3 and a TTS and they could not get them sidesways on the wet practice surfaces. Below 70 km/h, with all the systems off, second or even FIRST gear and full trottle the quattro system would just somehow pull the cars round. Didn't matter how violently you would throw them into the corner or how violently you shifted momentum. Truly amazing.

Hi James. I finally saw you today, on my travels. You were in the RS6, aka 'The Stealth Bomber'. You were sat at the lights on the A519 where you can turn left for Stobarts or go straight on to the roundabout for the A500 D Rd and J15 of the M6. I double 'beeped' you as i went past. I have watched so many of your videos and had slowly picked up from small clues from what you had said and the videos of the roads you are driving around on that i thought you may live in the Staffs/Shropshire border area. It was funny seeing you; slicked back hair, your round sunnies and the beard.You weren't chatting to yourself so i guess you weren't filming at the time. But i only really noticed you because of the plate on the car. Otherwise at a glance or look it's just an Audi estate ;-) Anyway i was on my way to Soudley near Cheswardine..It was cool to see you, lovin all your work you are doing here on YT. I'm glad you mentioned the cup holders, I've recently driven a few rs6's and I did think they wouldn't be suitable but I didn't have a drink to try them out. My 2015 S3 can fit two supersize cups from BK! Regardless of the poor cup holders, I've still put down a deposit on one! Sadly not merlin purp but I plan on getting a wrap!

I totally agree with the cup holder! I said that from day one of owning the A6. The NG Saab 9-5 was the same. I don't understand why they couldn't put the cup holders at the front where the sliding section is. Awesome vid!

Hey JWW! You are right about the Quattro system + it's effectiveness on winter roads; they excel at bad weather and in combination with the power in the S/RS they are formidable machines! Until recently I had an S4 Avant (V8) - I live on the Welsh borders, and it was unbeatable for its' combination of grip and acceleration; such a usable performance car. My last great experience in it before selling it, I was following a Lancia Stratos kit-car (actually a Lister Bell STR). The roads were very wet, and I was pleasantly surprised to come up behind this STR on the last 5 mile stretch home. The sound from the STR exhausts was awesome (I think an Alfa V6) and I could see it had so much mechanical grip it flew through the bends with barely any roll or slip. But the S4 had enough power and grip for me to keep up and enjoy the view until I reached my house, as he flew of down the valley! I'd love an RS6 at some point, ever since seeing the C5 RS6 Plus in purple years ago in a mag. Great car and great channel! Thanks.

Here's a Texan longing for those beautiful sporty hot hatch estates... these videos only make me more angry that the ubiquitous SUV all but pushed these far from my grasp! The closest I can get to this is the A4 allroad (I'll take it if I can get it!). Thank You @Mr JWW for these videos of one of the best cars I've ever seen. Excellent as ever James - The RS6 Performance has got to be one of the, if not the ultimate 'One Size Fits All' supercars available today in terms of its massive all round ability - looks, performance, practicality, reliability and desirability, it has it all in spades. Love the Torque analogy too - albeit my beloved Saab doesn't make the same Torque as the RS6 - it still makes around 620nm and is so utterly effortless and progressive it's laughable, so I share your love of 'Twist' bud! - Thanks for sharing and as ever - Top Work Fella!👍👍

I have an ageing 08 A6 and it's cup holders are exactly the same. 9 days out of 10, it dont matter, but my god when you need them they are completely atrocious. But I would love, love ,love to own this car. I could never just have a test drive as I never could afford to buy one, and I'd always regret that everytime I got into my own car.

Actually James is more right then you. The RS models are produced in Neckarsulm, which is about 60km (don´t know it in miles) away from Stuttgart.

Love your honest approach by pointing out the less obvious but certainly bugging things. I drive a merc vaneo which for a purpose I need is perfect however the cig lighter socket where you plug in satnav or a charger is located at the end of center consol which would be ideal for back seat passengers whereas you try to get around the armrest. Guess those minor but crucial design flaws can make wonder sometimes about engineers thoughfulness. Thx for your great vids, you're one of the most informative and sort of normal guy.

Audi's problem With ouversteer is mostly because of the quatro system not allowing Wheel slip in the rear, not because of engine placement/weight.

I agree with the cup holders, I've got a 3l S-Line TDI Quattro, you can only use one bottle at a time really. Other than that, its a bloody bloody good car. 2 dogs in the back, plenty of space for 4 people. Perfect

i´ve got the same car, besides the fact, that mine has a v6 tractor engine. the cupholders work fine. just pull that arm rest a little bit up. and if you have bottles as big as you described them, there is a dedicated spot for them in every door. in 9:05 you see it on the left door right in front of that door pull thing.

On the score of the position of the cup holders JWW it is not trivial because it does detract from such a good driving machine. It is something I think Audi needs to look at as it is just the same in my S5.

We need a New update on this beast James, from a ownership point of view (maintenance etc). I have read in the forums that a great portion of the owners complaint about the rims bending! Have u had any problems?

Good review. RE: cup holders invest in a couple of Audi Thermos cups, perfect size, don't sit too high and keep coffee warm. As for the soundtrack, great when outside on GoPro or windows down / sunroof open but quiet otherwise because of double glazing. If you want more tone, £300 will get you a resonator and centre muffler delete and a replacement x pipe. Keeps it OEM in look but so much better noise.Curious, how do you get on with the HUD with your shades on and direct low autumnal sunlight?If you want to hear the modified exhaust, give us a shout as have this on my RS7 and have a friend with an RS6 Performance with the same modification.

Dude, check your doors! The bottles go in the side of the doors and are proof as hell there, even through a quick run. The cupholder i'll give you that, they are crap. My 2011 S4 had great cupholders and were about twice as deep as the ones of the RS6. Don't know why the guys from Ingolstadt didn't go with this solution.

Great vid :) Is the armrest not adjustable? It should make a "click" as you raise it up so it can be positioned higher? Bottes go in the angled door holders?? I had a question on your seat colour - do they stain easily? Looks great but do they fit with the practicality of the RS6?

+Azer5556 Jean stains show up more prominently on this colour but I had the interior coated with a protective solution that makes you able to just wipe it off - which is handy! 👍🏻

My Omega wagon has terrible cupholders too. Out of a 5 door wagon, there's only one and it's under the armrest and if you're on a down hill the armrest will fall on your drink. There are more ash trays than cupholders in that car.

Its true even a Golf R etc up feel unbreakable :D Oh yeah the cupholders are much more generous on the golf R not sure if they are in the way in the Golf for a start they set back more and rotated 90 degrees. Long drinks can be in the was like a large cup of Coke. My Corolla had pop out cup holders but were higher so they slashed around more.

What you said about Quattro made me giggle a little bit. How you made having quattro on those roads sound like a day and night difference. Maybe the roads get "greasy" from time to time in such a way that a motorcyclist may have a few issues, but night and day difference with a car? Nah, come on. Try real winter roads and quattro, THEN you'll now what a huge difference it makes. The old C4 A6 I had some years ago was killer in the snow! Not trying to be mean or anything and for the record I'm a huge Audi fan with the RS6 as my absolute dream car (although I've been drooling over the new RS3 a fair bit lately). The Audi I have now is my third and when I'm done with my Master's degree I'll definitely change it in for my fourth...

+Krissy Thomas I actually have no idea because I don't do it when I'm not filming 😂 must be a concentration thing 🙈 the short shifting isn't always short either there is so much torque available it often feels fine to shift up when it might not sound like it 👍🏻
