We follow your travels from the Sultanate of Oman, and with you we got to know Australia and fell in love with its nature and beauty. In fact, I love the Defender and I was very happy when the Grenadiero appeared. I followed your videos to hear your negative and positive comments about the Grenadiero’s performance as a new car, and I only trust people like you because they have actual experience and practical testing of the car’s performance. There is no diesel engine model available here.

Thank you for your kind response to my comment about your wonderful adventures. As much as I enjoy your adventures, as much as I benefit from your experience in driving the Grenadier, because I am in love with the Defender, and after the appearance of the Grenadier, I decided to buy one, but I think I should weigh this decision because it is the first version, and there may be errors or things that need to be modified or added, and the modification will not be done until after trying the first version. Therefore, please provide information about fuel consumption, engine performance, air conditioner performance, etc., so that we can benefit from your experience.

Think of those great days with Archie... I feel your sadness. We lost our crazy Labradoodle.... a big boofhead Buddy, and then not long after, a rascal of a rodent Yorkshire terrier we found in Cobar years ago. I am just back from Tasmania - on every trip, I look for a new dog... I think I am mourning the other rascals. Buddy's nose on my foot and his deep intellect and ability to read people... My Grenadier has left the harbour, and hopefully, they will get it to me soon - it has been 15 months since I paid my deposit - 07 August 2022.. Be well

I agree that the level of ad blue consumption seems high. Presumably it will be higher when fuel consumption is higher as there will be more NoX gasses to neutralise. If I recall, your average consumption for the trip was over 19l/100km which is towards double the notional 10.5l/100km advertised. So that could contribute to the high ad blue consumption. Nevertheless it still seems higher than I would have expected.

Hi Ian, how great that you have been able to have the love and enjoyment of your dog for 17 years. Unfortunately Archie is not yet 9 and this disease is not uncommon in Shepherds. It is sole destroying to watch an otherwise perfectly healthy vibrant and beautiful animal loose control of his muscles starting with the back legs. Thank you for your kind words, John

Unfortunately he is correct, this was once known as the German Shepherd disease although it can occur in other large breeds. It is a success if you can get your GS to 10yo. on the other hand my Cairn Terrier went to 19! Hi John. As you know I did a similar trip to Uluru from Melbourne a couple of months ago. Agree with all the comments you have made. Re Ad Blue my tank only had 10litres in it on delivery and I used about 8litres on a 6000km trip. Nb my initial thoughts we that I would get between 10,000-15,000km on a full 17 litre tank. Averaged about 13litres diesel/100km - plenty of dirt road 60-90 km and high speed NT bitumen, so seemed ok to me. Sorry to hear about your dog. Regards.

Thanks Rick, much appreciated, John
@cannyoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Well I mulled over this for quite a while. First problem with the Sierra is getting up and down off the roof let alone with 20L fuel. I actually made the racks to take the Jerry cans myself from angle I got from Bunnings. I wanted the fuel at the back as I think these vans are front heavy , still got about 220 on the ball. I Used the ladder supplied for the rear entry (which I don't use for that purpose) put some hooks on the top and two u shaped connectors on the top of the van so it hooks on secure and is safer to get up and down with the fuel. Hope that briefly explains it, John

Did you work out which part of the fuel gauge is faulty? The reality of how much fuel you had to put in to fill it must have given you more accurate figures surely.

Well I think the best gauge is the remaining kilometres, however it doest update as you go along and sticks on one figure for 10, 20, sometimes 30 kilometres the drops. Its a bit frustrating but I hoping it will get sorted soon, Cheers John

Great video John. Very sad news about Archie. Dogs are the best. With regards to Ad Blue Ineos saying a range of 10,000 kms from 17 litres ( 588 kms per litre ) is VERY optimistic. This result possibly achievable in perfect circumstances. However That is not the real world. In stop / start city / suburban driving, I’d say, you will get between 350 to 400 kms per litre. If u get 6,500 kms on 17 litres, in this situation, u r doing well. Close to 6,000 kms on 17 litres is more realistic. Gentle highway driving, without headwind, and no towing and minimal weight in the vehicle, would hopefully get u 550 kms per litre / 9,300 total range. Weight in the vehicle, and towing etc, will mean less range on each litre of Ad Blue Keep accurate records of your Ad Blue consumption U will get to know the REAL range of your 17 litre Ad Blue tank, depending on how the Grenadier is being used.
@cannyoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Stephen, I think you are right on the mark. I will work out exactly my usage and will be making some more comment on this issue, John
@StephenFogarty2023 Жыл бұрын
@@cannyoutdoors Thanks John, My figures are based on 5 years ownership of a diesel Disco Sport. LR also quoted figures regarding Ad Blue range, which proved to be wildly optimistic… Luckily I purchased the 5 year Service Plan, at time of delivery, which was only $ 1,210.00 in June 2017. This included all required Ad Blue. The more frequent, then expected visits to dealer, to top up Ad Blue were inconvenient, but, at least I never paid for Ad Blue. The price of only $ 1,210.00 for a full 5 year / 102,000 km Service Plan, proved to be a bargain price. It’s a lot more expensive now ! The fuel consumption figures quoted by manufacturers, that are displayed via a label on new cars, prior to delivery, are generally, very optimistic, and not achievable in the real world. Manufacturer claims regarding Ad Blue consumption, are also achieved in specific controlled situations / circumstances etc, and, just like fuel consumption claims, their advice regarding this matter, is very optimistic, and not achievable in real world conditions etc… 🤷🏻♂️ BTW I’m not sure how this works in a Grenadier, but… In the Disco Sport, once Ad Blue Range got to 1,500 kms The car would alert u via a warning of the range, on the instrument display. As the Range gets lower, the warnings are more frequent etc Once Ad Blue runs out, your car will NOT restart ! When leaving the Metro Area, for a road trip etc, I’d suggest carrying a couple of 2 litre size Ad Blue “ top up “ bottles with u, in your vehicle. Don’t get caught out at the black stump, and getting low / running out of Ad Blue !! The 4 litres of Ad Blue u carry, should get u at least 1,000 kms of driving range, even in harsh conditions etc… Big service stations sell these 2 litre Ad Blue top up bottles Make sure u buy a brand / type, that is suitable for the BMW diesel engine, in your vehicle. 👍
@cannyoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks Stephen, The Grenadier works in the same manner however really interested in your last comment about being suitable for BMW engines. Isn't it just Urea and water. As a matter of interest I purchased 10L at Supercheap for $54 just filled up at a bulk bowser $1.89/L....go figure! John
@StephenFogarty2023 Жыл бұрын
@@cannyoutdoors Hi John I’m no Scientist etc But I’m pretty sure that Ad Blue is not just Urea & Water There are different types Different mixtures etc 95 Octane fuel is different to 91 Octane etc.. My understanding is that u need to get Ad Blue suitable for your engine If not Your engine might consume it quickly Meaning Terrible Range OR The “ knock sensor “ type of electronics, reject the Ad Blue, and vehicle will NOT drive ! U would need to fully drain and flush your Ad Blue tank and associated pipes etc ! I’d strongly suggest checking your Log Books / Service Book to c what it says, and call the Service Dept of your Dealer, and chat to them for accurate advice This could save u much hassle Cheers. 👍
