Good Work! Those numbers are simply mind blowing! All about those marginal gains at this point. I did a “Four Seasons” session this morning and really suffered in the middle 2 pieces. But I kept thinking…”If Adam can do a week, I can certainly power through 1 session.” Watching you knock out a 5k, while I recover with my big cereal bowl, was perfect! Thanks for the inspiration!

It’s always quite inspiring for me to watch that crazy mahi (work) on your time trials Cam. I’ve taken up rowing a little over 4 years ago and found myself in love with the sport. I’ve learnt an insurmountable lot off our local heroes in NZ (Murray, Bond, Drysdale, Twigg, Prendergast) and also yourself just by it watching online. Out there, it always makes me smile to see how supportive and generous rowers in general are, from top athletes to the everyday mate pulling the chain at home. I feel privileged. I never said cheers before for your humbleness, support and inspiration so.. best cheers for all of that mate. I’ll keep rooting for your progression. Greetings from NZ.

Lordy Cam what a great video, love the tech changes you've made over this past year, your erg efficiency looks through the roof, no wasted motion at all. Like that you stay tight and strong through the start instead of the big 2 stroke method you were doing before too. I've tried both myself and I feel the pacing one gives me better rhythm in the end, I think you see the same probably. Sorry the final time wasn't as fast as you wanted but lordy did it look clean, great video Cam absolutely loved it

I would not get discouraged. While you did not achieve your personel best, a few seconds were shaved off your last bench mark. If my recollection is correct your PB was five years ago. Your body is a bit different now, which, I suppose is a polite way of saying you are a bit older. I agree with the rest of the feed back here in that you are a mighty machine. The thing to keep in mind is that the erg is a great training tool with regards to conditioning, it does very little for technique other than slide work. Finesse and efficiency in the stroke are just as important as conditioning when it comes to moving the boat. I think you are on your way to finding that perfect stroke which marries technique to power and endurance.
@CameronBuchan2 жыл бұрын
It's true thanks for the encouraging words! I was more dissapointed at the score vs what I was aiming for vs my training times. But you're right for sure. The erg is a training tool and rowing is a rowing sport!!

Great score, but why do your pace your 5K with such negative splits? Your sub 5:50 2K was really steady, putting the work in from stroke 1. Why would you go off at 1:39 for the first 2K while aiming for a sub 16 min 5K? Wouldn't it make much more sense going off at 1:37-1:37.5 instead of 1:39s?

Great video. Do you think it might be worth rowing a bit longer at the catch? I would expect somebody of your height to be almost touching the cage with the handle. Maybe try a little more body rock and drop the rate by 1 or 2 pips to give more time on the recovery.
@CameronBuchan2 жыл бұрын
I see what you are saying but I as you can see on the length, I am still up around 1.50m per stroke. That is still long and rowing longer has proven over the years to be incredibly inefficient. There is a balance to be found, one I am still trying to find!
@jeremymartin16102 жыл бұрын
@@CameronBuchan it's good that you are continuing to optimise this. I wouldn't have thought that 1.50m is particularly long for somebody of your height, but I guess you are rowing in crews with far shorter people so you have to compromise (unless you row with a differentiated rig, with different spans for each sculler). Some of the great scullers of the past rowed really long, such as Karpinnen, but agreed that the modern style seems to be to row shorter at a higher rate.

Even if this is indeed a very good time, I do understand you are not satisfied. Probably you go an try out in your training: Take the average heart rate you achived in your piece. Next piece you are doing, don't have a look to the split, have a look to your heart rate, bring it up to the average value you achived last time and hold it there for the time of the piece. It shouldn't take 5 minutes untill you hit your average high in a piece buddy. Probapl it helps you to get more self-convidence for longer pieces or even for every piece, to keep on going, even if your heart try to explode your breast ;)
