agreed but i think theyre still quite similar lifts even with the difference. Halfthor had a sniff of smelling salts which elevates consciousness, and almost certainly allows you to lift more weight. Which honestly in my opinion makes the lift less impressive than it would have been without ammonia like eddie's. Still both great lifts tho!
@oliver5479 Жыл бұрын
Eddie's been chasing at thor's heels his entire career but never could be better than him. Even his 2017 win was highly controversial and he immediately took his ball and went home whereas thor kept going like a true champion. Brian Shaw better than both though

It kind of annoys me how much people dismiss this lift, because it "wasnt in competition".... who cares? He lifted more weight, period. What does it matter what the setting is as long as the weights are real and he didn't cheat? Like I get it, lifting weight in a competition is more difficult, there's more pressure, more pressure from the crowd, and it's less controlled of a setting... but last time I checked the measure isn't who can lift the most weight under the most difficult circumstances... the measure is who can lift the most weight, period.. and that would be Thor. Unless you think he somehow cheated or used fake weights or something but clearly he didn't.

1. His Dad weighed them with what? A scale. If someone else placed every plate onto the scale does that make the identical reading more or less valid? 2. Do you recall the date of the lift? I take it you do not because the date wouldn't be relevant to the cowgirl position you naturally assume. The date was the 2nd of May 2020, yanno Covid pandemic that cancelled strongman events from the uk all the way to Florida. 3. Given it was during covid, getting a judge and a livestream set up is making the best of a bad situation. Just because there is a pandemic it does not mean a strongman can just deload 12-15 weeks of preperation. 4. Hafthor is 6'9 and at the time was 208kg. Eddie is 6'2.5 and weighed 197kg. It is laughably obsurd to assume Hafthor (who has won nearly 60 national and international strongman championship titles) could not lift the same and more. All in all, its a vibes based comment in 2024 to yap about whether the lift is real when the only reason to doubt it is because Hafthor had to do it in his own gym due to a global virus. Just say you like Eddie Hall's personality more and move on.

What's the argument for this being bs? Looks like a proper lift to me
@pursuitforspeed6 ай бұрын
@@juannaym8488 Basically comes back to it being done in a home gym and not in front of an audience - it was during COVID lockdown. I believe this was technically a sanctioned competition, and Magnus Ver Magnusson was there to sanction the lift and weigh the weights to make sure nothing dodgy was happening. However, I don't believe there was anyone else there from the federation to referee the event. Eddie Hall basically influenced a lot of people to call the lift unofficial because of that. However, there have been other strongman records broken in home gyms, ie Tom Stoltman broke the Atlas Stone world record in his home gym during lock down and nobody questions that. What I think is that Eddie was dark with Thor about how he carried on about 2017 WSM; saying that he was robbed and made it into a conspiracy about how they fixed the events so Eddie could win. Which I think is utter rubbish - Eddie won fair and square, but Thor did act like a giant man child and I think Eddie (rightfully so) took offence to it. That's the long and short of it. Now you know.

Strongman has no single governing body. This leads to dispute and ambiguity. This event was infact sanctioned by one of those bodies among many which is 'World's Ultimate Strongman (WUS)'. It's an annual strength athletics competition which began in 2018 and it has a number of parallel, rival competitions including World's Strongest Man, Arnold Strongman Classic and Giants Live Tour etc. Inaugural edition of the competition was held in Dubai in 2018 and it was won by Hafthor. 2019 winner was Mateusz again in Dubai. In Feb, 2020 it was announced the competition would be expanding and would be held in Bahrain at the Bahrain International Circuit with a purse of USD 350,000, which was the largest for any Strongman Competition. In March, WUS released an official statement entailing that the event which was scheduled in mid April was 'cancelled' due to the Pandemic (I'm sure you all are aware that there is a global pandemic going on called Covid-19), and because of travel restrictions placed in many countries, WUS announced that they will govern the Record breaker attempts from these events in 'Feats of Strength series' which to be conducted at home/private gyms but live streamed for free for the public to view in real time. Here are some of the WRs which were sanctioned under Feats of Strength by WUS, during that season: Maximum Deadlift (Standard bar) - Hafthor Bjornsson 🇮🇸, 501 kg. 2/5/20. Maximum Atlas Stone lift - Tom Stoltman 🏴🇬🇧, 286 kg. 23/5/20. 100 kg Circus Dumbbell press for reps - Oleksii Novikov 🇺🇦, 11 reps. 30/5/20. Maximum Atlas Stone lift (Women's U64kg) - Rhianon Lovelace 🏴🇬🇧, 139 kg. 6/6/20. Maximum Log lift (American Record) - Rob Kearney 🇺🇲, 216 kg. 13/6/20. Maximum Log lift (Women's) - Andrea Thompson 🏴🇬🇧, 135kg. 4/7/20. 400kg Deadlift (standard bar) for Repetitions - Rauno Heinla 🇪🇪, 6 reps. 13/9/20. Maximum Atlas Stones lift (Women's) - Donna Moore 🏴🇬🇧, 171kg. 27/9/20. Maximum Deadlift (Standard bar) (Women's) - Andrea Thompson 🏴🇬🇧, 290kg. 4/10/20. Maximum Deadlift (Standard bar) Master's (over 40y) - Mikhail Shivlyakov 🇷🇺, 436kg. 18/10/20. Additionally, below athletes attempted the WRs but were unsuccessful: Luke Stoltman, Rob Kearney (Max log), Julius Maddox (Raw Bench press), Terry Hollands (Masters Max Deadlift), Jerry Pritchett, Adam Bishop, JF Caron, Konstantine Janashia, Trey Mitchell (400kg Deadlift for reps) and Ivan Makarov (Maximum Deadlift). So the event was cancelled in 2020 due to Pandemic and all the scheduled work was sanctioned by WUS 'for the Record breakers' and held like that in 2020 under Feats of Strength Series. Finally the competition resumed in 2021 March in Bahrain (the one schedule in April 2020 in Bahrain which was cancelled) where it was won by Oleksii Novikov. A feat he replicated in September 2021 (the actual 2021 competition), winning it back to back. Hope this helps you to understand. Furthermore: He pulled the Weight from the floor and we all saw it. As elaborated above the pandemic cancelled all shows. It was planned for WUS 2020 at Bahrain and it got cancelled. But WUS officially hosted the event under WUS Feats of Strength 2020. Only maximum of 20 people allowed per vanue. It was live streamed so anyone in the world can see. All plates were brand new Rogue calibrated plates. Each and every single plate accurately weighed to 3 decimal places in front of the official judge MVM and signed for verification. Go check the video, it's available in Hafthor's Official KZbin channel. The lift was broadcasted live in real time. WSM head judge MVM declared it was a good lift. We all saw that Hafthor made it as if 501 was not even a challenging enough weight for him! If you are an obsessive Eddie fan (I'm assuming) we all know that Eddie almost died after the 500, and contrastingly Hafthor Pulled 501 like nothing, perfect lockout, and was standing tall after the lift... There's two men in the 500 club, true and Eddie was the first man to do it, true but there's only one man in more than 500 club now for more than 2 years... Hafthor Bjornsson is the World Record holder of the Deadlift. Google it up, you can see it for yourself under Guinness World Records. I also have a couple of counter questions with refer to competition/ maybe now about the crowd as competition hypothesis is explained above, which is not the case anymore: The 1st event of ESM 2016 was the Deadlift (event 1 is called Giant's live World Deadlift Championship). There was no events before. Eddie was also fresh coming into the lifts. Thor had the same number of weight jumps 420, 465 and the Big one and at less time intervals between them that Eddie had, giving less rest between the sets to Thor. We should also not forget that in a competition (if you have competed at an event you will know what I'm trying to explain), the cheering crowd (thousands at ESM 2016) is a natural Adrenaline booster which will help the mind achieve even more than what your body really can. So with my experience, a cheering crowd makes me lift better. Also, does gravity apply differently in competition? No, but did you know that the gravity acts slightly differently depending on how close you are to the equator or to the poles? A weight weighs less on the equator than at the poles. Using Newton's law of gravity, we find that the force of earth's gravity on objects at the equator is 9.798 m/s2, whereas at the poles it is 9.863 m/s2 meaning the objects weigh heavier when you are closer to poles and further away from equator; the earth's centrifugal force varies with latitude being the principal behind it. Reykjavík, Iceland is closer towards the North pole and further away from the equator than Leeds, England. So even if it's a very small amount, there are things like that also. For me, Weight is a weight. 501 kilos is 501 kilos. But I want to tell you that they did everything possible with the existing world situation to do it in the best, most officially possible and feasible way anyone can during that time period.

Before any newbies say "not in competition" Strongman records have never been exclusive to competition, the Arnold record breakers are not competition, just strongman events. Also Eddie didn't do a full competition, he only did the deadlift invitation event where everything was setup for him, for a strongman competition Hafthor still has the record at 474.
