Not sure if you'll read this, but the trick is to put your thumb on the head section and apply presure (i.e. pre-load it), everytime you adjust it, e.g. when boring a hole for a bearing, where you want to achieve a certain fit/tolerance. If you keep that in mind, you can quite easily achieve accuracies around half of the smallest adjustable unit of your boring head's scale. (And yes, the build quality leaves a bit to be desired...)

That's what i do every time, it can be set accurate with the way you said, and still work good for hobby use

Cmae for the boring bar and then realized that you made DIY bellow cover. I am doing the same but the stainless steel I used can not be bent so need to come up with another solution. I do not find the spirng clip that are normally used to attach the steel plate to tthe bellow. What did you use? I see a metal clip but it's not really clear. How did you cut out the squared hole? a die or what? Thanks a lot

I have this,, and yes, you do need to use a diamond wheel to sharpen the carbide , it does work now

Sure

You need to refer to a speed and feed chart before your boring operations. For the first hole you were going way too fast. For a 10mm 4 flute HSS endmill in steel you would be running at a maximum of about 900 rpm. Considering the boring head is unbalanced and you are using a single cutting edge, this should be reduced further. Think of the boring head as a drill bit with a single cutting edge - 10mm HSS drill bit in steel runs at 500rpm.
@RandomNumber1415 жыл бұрын
kickinthegob The material is clearly aluminum and these boring bars are brazed carbide, so the cutting speed probably isn’t a limitation here... but this does seem way too fast for a boring head
@lindsayfog52466 жыл бұрын
you shouldn't have a large unbalanced mass turning at such a high speed in a spindle if you want your bearings and mill to last, whether its a good boring head ... or a cheap banggood one I wouldn't go over 200 rpm with a single point boring head ,carbide or not

one of the worst features is that the individual bars do not have a flat to locate the locking system and this causes damage to the ground shaft making them quite difficult to remove

@TinC335 жыл бұрын
@@Putelquelee Aha you use lathe as a mill, i got it. in that case i just remove conus from the head, clamp it into chuck and turn the conus to cylinder, and than you can clamp it into chuck.

they are decent, but the dial has a bit of backlash. recommend you get your own boring bars. the carbide-tipped bars like these are really really cheapos, and sold separately for under $20
@jeanyvespochez7 жыл бұрын
you don't need left and right boring bar, if your mill can work in reverse (like my sx2 does)
@TinC337 жыл бұрын
jeanyves pochez nope because there ia a big right type of thread on this bar, so if i work in left side the whole head just unscrew of the shaft part...
@jeanyvespochez7 жыл бұрын
ah yes! mine came in a single part, so did not unscrew (for now)
@turningpoint66436 жыл бұрын
It also depends on exactly how the shank attaches to the boring head. Narex for example don't use a threaded connection like the Criterion style heads have. They use a precision ground stub on the end of the shank that fits the hole on the top of there heads and then 4 allan bolts do the actual holding of the shank to the head so it can be run in forward or reverse without unscrewing.

What i was hoping to learn was which of the three tension screws are used to lock the head after adjustment. I just bought an identical tool, but it did not come with instructions or user manual. This video races past this detail. Oddly, I cannot find a manual online. Nonetheless, i was able to accurately bore out the bolt holes on a brake rotor for a project and the tool worked fine. wc

You need to tight all three small screws after diameter is setted.

I have exactly this kind of head that is screwed to the cone. I would like to run it in reverse unless I can buy boringbars working counter clock wise. What would the best trick be to lock the head into the cone and run "backwards"?
@kaijumoto2 жыл бұрын
Drill it, tap it. Drill the hole in the head a bit oversize because you won't screw it back on perfect every time. I know this is 4 years old, but someone may want an answer.
@igortrush40553 жыл бұрын
these boring bits need to be sharpened in correct cutting form before usage. from beginning it is just bar with hard bit soldered to it and is not usable for cutting.

Como centrar con boring sin rayar la pieza con el tugsteno maestro¿??
@Putelquelee5 жыл бұрын
Saludos

Jason Burns depend on what you think by minimill, i called mine mini mill, it's table mill but weight arround 130kg, so it's not that mini... And yes on my mill works without problem for cutting about 1mm but bor serious work i will cut 0,1-0,3mm at once.

Dod you see my last BG review about lathe tool holders and inserts, i explained there why i'm so happy with them, they'r not as nicely finished as brand one, but 7holders with inserts cost same as just 3 inserts from a brand, and guess what they broke too. I'm preaddy sure that tool is not good for industry far from that that you use for serial production on some cnc machine with big feed, just no, but for hobbyest like i am it's really great FOR THE PRICE it work maybe got some tiny fails, most of time that fails is only visual, but for price gret tool, i'm really happy hith them, already got lot of tool from banggood, and still buying, and will definitly buy more (new dro is at post at this moment)

Warning!!!! do not use the boring bars in the condition they are deliered.I still can´t believe people do this, in so called" review videos.the Carbide insert are braised onto the bars in a cut neutral state (blanks) and they must be ground to a cutting edge for the material and use required.How to grind tooling Videos are widespread here on KZbin and should be a fundamental lesson before using any machines and Tools.Common sense really .

Tin you should not need to make parts to make it a better tool...They should produce a product good enough...or don't bother. I would rather pay 5 times more for a good product..Why they keep doing this is beyond me...I was going to try it out But not now..Its just poor quality mate.

it's not good, but it's work for me when need it (few holes per year) just not untight stop screws till end when change the position.

These things are rubbish. The one i bought i had to recut thread on morse taper and when i bought another head it turned out that was where the faulty thread was. The cutters dont cut. Dont waste your money on this junk. The adjustment is a pain too
@TinC335 жыл бұрын
it's true, but if you sharpen the blades, fix a few angels it works, i got to make a small series of parts months ago cr4 steel, and i drilled about 40 holes without problem but abou 0,5mm is somkind of max cutting, than my mill become too weak, but i do the job and that's it, real head like this will cost about 1000€ and mill will still bee too weak to work with them, so for me and other hobby users it's just good for the price, wich is saem like a few branded inserts. Thant's my opinion, offcourse it's not for industrial use.
