I have the exact same boring head from Banggood and I agree with you on the quality of the item. It very well made and if used properly should last a lifetime for the hobbyist machinist. The cutters can also be reground but if you care to do so you only grind the bottom face and never the side. If you grind the side getting the proper relief angle can be a real bear if not impossible.

I just got mine and it works ok especially for the price, as you say for things that will not spin in the lathe. looking at your setup on the milling table the way you have the clamps if it snags it will pull the work out of the clamps, i try to make it so that if anything is not 100% it will push into the clamps rather than pulling out, don't ask me how i found this out 😲😳

I got my one about a week ago and I agree for the money its very good value. I would like to be able to get some cutters with flats ground and I'm not sure about their carbide tip geometry, they are not cutting on the center which worries me a bit if the fixing screw comes loose.

I know this is an old comment but just gonna throw in my experience. I have an old drill press from my great grandpa. He took amazing care of all of his tools and equipment so it was pretty close to like new condition. The only issue were the bearings as they were starting to wear out, I swapped the standard ball bearings for a pair of near equally sized tapered roller bearings. After buying a cheap chinesium x/y table I was able to use it as a pretty good milling machine, even cutting mild steel parts at a pretty respectable feed rate with tolerable quality of cut. I got the mt2 version like in the video because it went right into the drill press spindle and used it to build a collar for a diy lead screw holder so the spindle can be raised and lowered with greater precision and accuracy than the backlash inducing hand wheel with set screw locks. I'm pulling the half-nut mechanism from a scrapped manual lathe to go back and forth between the hand wheel and lead screw depending on my needs at the time. Building tools from scratch or pre-existing tools/parts can be both very rewarding and very budged friendly so long as you know what you're doing.

Are the dial markings matching the hole diameter or the hole radius? ie; if you add 0.1mm on the dial, does the hole get 0.1 or 0.2mm larger?
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Wiz Rom, the increment is absolute, so yes 0.1 will open the hole 0.2, same as working with a lathe

7:59 I hear a bit of slop between your spindle and spindle drive shaft, does it get really loud during interrupted cuts- just curious if that is normal.
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy, yes there needs to be a bit of clearance on the drive dog as it needs to move up and down on the quill spindle, it's an old machine (approx 1970's) but still going strong. I do notice it on interrupted cuts as expected, but it hasn't yet got to the point where I have considered the need to make a new one :) Regards. Ade

@@AdeSwash I asked because my new rong fu mill is ridiculously loud on most cuts. I think it has way too much slop and Im going to see about getting it warrantied. I would think a few thousandths would be enough to slide on a fixed track.
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy, I'm guessing Rong Fu is a chinese brand? most far eastern machinery needs some re-working to get it up to a good standard, it's generally good value but it dosent match up to good old english machinery without some sort of refinement
@JimmysTractor
@JimmysTractor 4 жыл бұрын
@@AdeSwash oh yeah, I'd take a bridgeport for sure, rong fu is the generic name for the round column mills. They also make a square column. They are sold under different names like Jet, Grizzly and Baileigh to name a few. Mine was the Harborfreight version and with a 25% coupon it was $1070 including tax and delivery to my door. Not bad for a 650lb machine. It is accurate within .002 over 16in plates that I milled- held by a 6in yausa vise.

Hello Ade, I actually received my boring head with 9 boring bars . So far so good. I do understand the use of boring bars in the VERTICAL position , because the knifes are on the correct side and they should be use in turning direction against the thread direction of the boring head. But I do not understand the HORIZONTAL position of the boring bars. Because if you take the same direction of turning the spindle, the knifes of the boring bars are on the WRONG side. If you would change the turning direction in the other way round, the knifes would be on the CORRECT side to cut, but the boring head could loose inside of tits thread. I do not understand the use of the HORIZONTAL boring in the boring head. Or are there other Boring bars with knifes on the other side. Please forgive me my poor English..... I am a German and English is not my native language. I hope you can understand my question. Best from Old Germany Alfred

From now on I will think twice before buying anything Chinese. A friend and myself recently bought ball screw kits - Chinese! What utter trash! What good is a ball screw if I have to modify it to make it work? The one end support is suppose to contain two angular contact bearings. These assholes in China decided to replace them with cheap Chinese trash standard ball bearings. From now on I will only buy from people who state on their website what bearings were used and I will check the ball screws from top to bottom, but trash I will not accept or pay for.

@@AdeSwash Dude, the Chinese copy western technology and produce sub-standard rubbish. This rubbish is sold in my own country as well. I have warned people from companies which I know sell this rubbish, and you know what, they just ignored me. This tells me that they are aware of the trash they are selling. It's called greed.

I bought one 75 mm. My opinion? Absolute trash. The slide has got a 0.35 mm side play. It adjusts by itself while machining. 98% of tools that come from China is total garbage - sub standard quality, soft (not hardened) and a copy of western technology,

@@101picofarad There is a saying: Beggars can't be choosers. So, if you have the finances you can buy quality. If you don't have the finances, you buy stuff from Banggood and Alibaba. After you received it, you find that you have total trash in your hand and you can't return it. When you contact the supplier, you get no response. So, if you have the finances, you buy a boring head from well known manufacturers like D'Andrea - Italy or other companies who manufacture these things and not copy it like the Chinese do and then screw it up by the quality they produce. I don't have the finances and thus bought many things from above companies just to find that 80% of the stuff I bought was either the wrong item or totally trash in quality.

@@AdeSwash True brother, but I had enough of buying Chinese tools. I will rather spend more and stop all the irritating hassles in the process. I have designed my own version which will be in metric. I just have to sort out the markings on the adjustment screw. Have designed an engraving machine which will be built soon, hopefully.
