Love the sound of the split manifold on those old Chevrolet engines. Had this setup in my first car with cherry bomb mufflers. The deputy sheriff said not to let him see me again until I had mufflers installed and that cherry bombs weren’t legal. Pretty good and loud, sounded like taking two planks and hitting them together at resonant rpm with the 153624 exhaust

I had a 1955 Chevy Belair with the 235 6 cyl engine in it. There is no sweeter sound than the 6 with split manifold with a set of glass packs on it. You can recognize the sound from a long way off. The great sound of the Chevy 6 when it goes through the gears, there is none like it. I like it so much better than the 8 cyl which sounds good too but the 6 beats it out for the sound. It really snaps.

Hell yeah man. It sound wicked with the 848 head and manual trans now too. The only thing I would do different is put a small hole in the block off plate inside the manifold. It pops just a little too much for me when I'm off the gas

She’s sounding sweet. We used to call them twice pipes or true duels. My Chev was a 54 BelAir hardtop. I ran the old Corvette side drafts tri-power and true duels and moved the three from the tree to the floor. 520 14’s on Cragar SS and a heavy squat.

Question what did you do to your oil filter housing? Did you add head shield to the oil lines going to your oil filter canister?
@ninja636396 жыл бұрын
Johnny Razo I took the oil filter off because one of the lines split and was leaking everywhere. Honestly I think it would be OK with it in place because the front line would be about centered between the 2 pipes
@mr.pickles8103 жыл бұрын
Ive heard with these inlines that the stock oil canister made them lose oil pressure. Just because the way its set up
@ninja636393 жыл бұрын
I've heard that too but it's not correct. The oil filter makes the gauge read lower pressure since the oil stream is being split off as opposed to just going to the gauge. The motor itself doesn't lose any pressure though

Why did your installer run the pipe under the oil pan? I had a split manifold on my 52 the pipes ran down the driver side then branched underneath and split at the crossmember to both sides in the rear. As I remember the manifold came from FOXCRAFT and Honest Charlie catalogs. That pipe running under the oil pan will be a PITA later on.

2.5" is too big for the 235. I went with 2" so it would deepen the tone up a little but most guys go with 1.5" to 1.75". It has to go all the way out to the rear bumper too. Length of pipe changes the tone also

@@ninja63639 lol. Yea but I was talking about the high pitch noise that makes it sound like the four cylinders that people are building now days, yours sounds good, i used to split the manifold in every way I could to get it to sound good, 3/3 ,2/4 , and 3/3 with one tube from the other side ran to the other so one cylinder could be heard through both sides, we used to do some crazy shit trying to make new stuff back in the sixties and seventies and most of it worked out great i have a intake that will fit your car that is made for one or two quadrejet four barrel carbs, it has to flat plate that bolts onif you just want to put one carb on it, or you can put a Edelbrock or holly on it but I ran it with two quad, s and I had a cam in it, i would turn the breather tops upside down and take off from a stop light and it would vibrate the big plate glass windows in the stores on main Street lol, if you ever want to put it on yours let me know and I'll send it to you, i would like to see someone using it instead of it hanging on the wall for another 30 years like it's been doing, i made it myself years ago

@coinslotsandjoysticks2572 Oh I gotcha. I feel like it's all in pipe diameter. I ran 2" straight from the split manifold to the rear tips. It definitely got rid of the raspy sound. I don't have this one anymore. I sold it and bought a '49 Ford club coupe but I definitely appreciate the offer. I just put a set of headers on the flathead and I'm gonna run 2" straight pipes to the rear on it also

I just looked around in my garage and I also have the big cam and lifters that I had in that engine to. The car got ran into and was destroyed in the early seventies and the guy who bought the engine just wanted it stock so I kept everything i had on and in it but it will make a sixer open it's eyes really quick with this cam and intake with a new Edelbrock 600cfm vacuum secondary.
