@@chud327 not sure what sizes of barrels are available but larger ones would be good. One thing I haven't seen is anyone using foam to fill their barrels. It would offer an unsinkable safety factor and it's fairly inexpensive... Just a thought.

I like your workmanship and frugality BUT I was very disappointed in your approach once I heard you were a teacher. There is no need to guess IF one of these home made kayaks will have enough bouyancy, that can be calculated. Each 10 four 4 inch closed pipe will displace enough water to provide 44 pounds of bouyancy. 2 pi r l = volume of pipe or water displaced. Water's density is 1 gram/cubic centimeter. If I ever do one of these myself I hope to include a little high school math in the instructional video. PS, I am not a teacher

Was it hard to paddle? I need to make slim barge style pontoon I can use a chainsaw on. Cut trees that are blocking the rivers and creeks in my area. For people who like to paddle. Been thinking of using some 15 gallon plastic drums and a 4x8 sheet of pressure treated plywood cut in half so the barge would be 2'x8'. That way two people could carry it in and out of tight spots when necessary.
@chud3275 жыл бұрын
It was not hard to paddle, but it was slower than my kayak. It was also a little bit slower to turn than a kayak. But you could easily build a platform on the front and / or back for hauling the chain saw. You could even add a couple more pipes to make it float a bit higher. It would suggest putting a trolling motor on it to get to the limbs. I put a trolling motor on this on in episode #2 and it was much better at getting around. Good luck and thanks for watching.
