The moss addition to the front of the cottage looks amazing. So green and fresh looking with the grey stairs . A job well done. So enjoy the harp music as we tour parts of the island. Incredible landscapes. Shaking hands with your sheep. How special is that. Love it!!

The moss is going to be so perfect, especially with the thyme growing in between the cracks and such. I love how Katie works with the sheep - love the "handshake" or giving a paw, and the head butt is so cute. There is truth in what you say, Katie, regarding the center part of an apple tree. My grandfather kept 1 tree and was very diligent about trimming it and it gave the best apples for years and years. And the little ones would climb it because there was an open spot in the center with the vee of the tree trunk, where they could sit and read a book and on one would know they were there. Us older kids were not allowed to climb the tree as we were too big for it to hold, and we could have broken off one of the larger branches. Does someone try to control the deer? It seems there would be an over population otherwise. Loved Scott "striking a pose" at the end of the video. Looking very noble and very Scottish, I would say.

Hi. Talking about mead. When we went to the isles of Scilly. We met a potter there who made mead. He was often seen riding his bike, lets say swaying along on his bike 🙈🤣🤣. I bought a mug from him, lovely chap, who insisted we christened the mug with mead. 😜. The light there today shows the views up beautifully. I would be in heaven living there. But my husband would hate it. 🤦‍♀️. Xx

Looking beautiful... We grow our apples along a trellis. That makes it really easy for picking . L o l.. We have to go through when they First, put fruit on and thin them out. So that the remaining fruit Grows To its best.. Otherwise, you just get a lot of little ones dropping off Anyway, and not a nice harvest. I love your orchard. It should give you many years of joy watching it improve as you tend to it.

Apologies for repeating myself but are you aware there is a project to preserve the native British black bee? This bee is not the popular common honey bee which was introduced from Europe. The ideal location for a colony is somewhere not near to the European variety to avoid genetic mixing. Your island might be ideal if you were so inclined. There are colonies on the Isle of tiree and native queens are available online. Just a thought.

The moss is lovely! A few years ago on You Tube I came across videos of ancient moss gardens in Japan. If you haven't found them yet, it's worth a look. Amazing balance of human tended and completely natural! Also, when trimming trees, try sawing the underside of the branch first, about a quarter of the way through the branch. Then, starting your cut from the top, saw downward to meet up with the first cut. It will prevent the branch from breaking due to it's own weight, and leaving broken wood which will be more prone to disease. The best of luck to you with your trees!

Pruning, the 4 Ds, Deformed, Damaged, Diseased & Dead. Is how I remember. Basically any branches that cross over another branch or inwards to centre of tree. Make bays so a ladder can be stood up to pick fruit too. Is what I've been told. Katie you have given me more confidence to prune our apple trees this Autumn thank you 😊

I have two but every year the leaves are diseases so I have brutally pruned last autumn...kill or cure I suppose. Talking about tress I was wondering how much of the land on the island you own and is the whole island owned by anyone personally? Might be a silly question but when you chop trees down do you have to ask for permission from anyone? Thanks again for sharing your incredible lives. P.S. We don't own the island, we have the pleasure of taking care of it in the owner's absence. We can use our discretion with the trees, but we wouldn't chop an oak or Scots pine down for firewood unless it was standing dead. Kx

for getting across mudflats you can make boot plates out of ply wood ,attach them to your boots making sure they are quite large compared to your feet and can use them like skis to get across ,the larger the area of the wood the more weight they can take as it spreads the weight over the wood
