In our past video, we received much feedback on the dangers of a JB Retirement, citing the security issues that are 'rampant' in Malaysia. We almost believed it.
Then CNA reported this... interesting piece of news. 510 THOUSAND Singaporeans went to Malaysia over Good Friday, jamming up the causeway. Here is what Mr Loo has to say.

The delicious food and attractive prices are dangerous‼️We'll surely fail our medical checkup if we indulge without limits😂. As for the traffic jam, it is really terrible. That's why Malaysia is not ideal for those who are impatient or still rushing around everyday to make a living. It's an excellent place for relaxation, retirement and recreation, and more appropriate for those who don't need to report for work.

You are absolutely right. This Mr Loo don't seems to get it... keeps repeating about the half a million of S'pore going in on Good Friday. Well, may be this half a million also bought a property and had decided to live there like him... then I am the one that don't get it 😀 "Cannot be Both Safe and Dangerous at the Same Time". What? Cannot believe a smart person like him can make such remark.

Not all 510,000 visitors crossing to JB are Singaporean. I believe quite a big numbers are Singapore PRs who are Malaysian or Malaysians working in SG. Some of them are Singaporean accompany their Malaysian spouce. They are forced by circumstances to brave through all "dangers and risks" fulfilling their "obligation", not so much for leisure travel. During 清明,they returned to JB or other states to "sweep the tomb" 扫墓。

CNA reported 510,000 travelers (not all Singaporeans) which include many Malaysians going back to their family during the long weekend. I am sure many of the 'negative comments' are from people talking from their personal experiences, those who had encountered or seen bad incidents will definitely speak out against JB. Those like you who had not encountered any unpleasant incidents will do otherwise. You need to know that "Life is not always black and white, it's a million shades of grey".

JB used to be very messy 20 to 10 years ago as there were many discos and KTVs near holiday plaza area and many drug addicts around. It was dangerous last time. But today, it has transformed to a much cleaner and safer place for family and kids after the covid. It was probably the covid that has also helped cleaned up the streets in JB. Anyway Johor comprises of many states like kulai, mersing, desaru, pontian, kluang, segamat and so on. To say johor is dangerous, i beg to differ as johor has so many beautiful places that i feel singaporeans have not seen before. I think personally JB has changed and is still changing day by day. All it takes is time to reach its potential.

510,000 people departed from Singapore to Johor Bahru during the Good Friday Holiday. Majority of them were Malaysian who returned for a short vacation back home in Malaysia. Probably, about 500,000 Malaysian departed from Singapore back to Malaysia for a short holiday before returning back to Singapore. There are about 1,000,000 Malaysians staying in Singapore, some of them Malaysian Permanent Residents, including blue-collar workers and white-collar workers.

there are significant differences between shopping in a place and living there. When you shop in a location, you’re typically focused on immediate needs or wants, while living in a place involves a deeper understanding of its culture, community, infrastructure, and overall lifestyle. With all due respect Mr Loo stop this conversation in your video. There are 2 groups of people in your forum, one group: Malaysian and the other Singaporean. Each group has strong reasons to love and hate your comments. The most valid reason I can think of is : your comments can actually drive the price of property of one country up and the other down. Also, F&B business in Singapore is already struggling we dont need your JB recommendations to drive it down further. Singaporeans have come a long way to build this small city state into a prosperous and a much admired nation to live in since its separation from Malaysia. I am sure a sense of patriotism and nationhood is in every Singaporean. Your comments may unintentionally stroke an anti-nationalistic vibe amongst us. I am receiving your video forwarded to me and my question is (no offence) are you and your wife both born in Singapore? I frequent JB to shop occasionally and I am enjoying all the perks and luxury there but choose to lie low about it for fear of offending my loyal Singaporean friends and relatives.

So I guess nowadays sharing an opinion on retirement option has become unintentional incitement of anti-nationalism? Being loyal to Singapore doesn't have anything to do with where to retire in, there is nothing wrong with wanting to retire with a certain lifestyle, especially after contributing to Singapore's GDP using your whole working life in Singapore. However, is Singapore able to provide that kind of lifestyle Mr. Loo is seeking (or a handful of us) even after slogging so hard in our SG careers.

Mr. Loo, you're getting a lot of naysayers because of the engineered generation that had been brought up in a certain way for years. Singapore is truly unique that Singaporeans frogs have taken granted that the walls of the well and the water they're in are the best in the world - but at a cost (most expensive in the world). Singapore is too unique because there is no other country like it, engineered for peace and prosperity. However, compared to the rest of the world, JB or Malaysia is actually one of the better countries to retire in, especially when it comes to cost. For those naysayers, talking about poorer safety, inefficient administration, inconvenience, and so on and so forth, please compare it to another 'better' country and factor in the equivalent cost of living - the nearest comparison may be Thailand, and probably outside of Bangkok. You'll face the same issues, but on top of that more language barrier. I've stayed in US, Brunei and Australia for a stint, the only viable better option is Brunei, but the lack of entertainment and restrictions to property makes it hard to retire there. The frogs need to experience for themselves before their opinions can be taken into considerations or validated.

Malaysians' foods are delicious because the foods are heavy in tastes. Many ingredients are being added into the foods to create the delicious tastes. However, these ingredients are not regulated by the Malaysian Authorities. Nobody knows what. There could be some health problems which are not being made known in public. Whereas Singapore foods are being regulated by all the Singapore Authorities and heavy penalties are imposed for offenders. Singapore foods are lighter in tastes because of lesser peculiar ingredients being added. Lighter tastes mean healthier health like the Japanese and the Chinese who live longer than others. However, once you ate heavy tastes, very heavy tastes, you are addicted to the very heavy tastes. Therefore, those lighter tastes in Singapore foods will not be delicious because you have tasted the very heavy tastes of Malaysia. Just like you smoke or on drugs, more, more and more heavy drugs, all the way, no turning back. Thus, a lighter taste is a healthier taste.

no the 510k ppl crossing the custom on Good friday were not majority singaporean. They are mostly malaysian taking the chance to go back hometown during long weekend. They have no choice, family is awaiting them. This 510K cannot justify anything on ppl prefer to live in JB or SG. They are originally born there and live there, so they go back and continue stay there, not because they have a choice. But you have a choice to decide where to stay, that is the difference.

As ironic as it may sounds, I think Singaporeans prefers the convenience and a comfortable life in sg than seeking a comfortable life overseas. "Getting out of comfort zone is the first step" Based on my personal and my peers experience, I carefully observed that there are few main considerations that majority of Singaporeans may have in living outside sg. 1. Common agreement with spouse, 2. Kids education, 3. Elderly parents need to take care. 4. Financial uncertainties. Many still prefers to leverage on sg currency to just be a consumer/tourist in Malaysia rather than living there long term. Geoarbitrage is definitely the new way of living now.

Simple answer. When you really go into many different comments/opinions, there is always a percentage for a different type of comment. It is safe until it happens to you. Most people feel safe, and for some, until they get robbed. I witnessed (2013) a mother and daughter got robbed. The mother's handbag got snatched by the motorcycle-robber in tesco carpark PU point. I didn't see the snatch happen but i saw the robber sped off in distance and the mother complained she had a few k inside the bag to her daughter. Another story (2003) i heard is a few friends got held at knife point and they gave in their wallets and belongings, behind holiday plaza. I used to go in every week. Nowdays no. The jam is not worth it. Nowdays should be safer, because you literally don't need to exchange ringgit. Just use trust card and a handphone in the pocket, ready to deactivate the card.

If you google Crime Index by Country 2024, you can see a global ranking of crime rates. Given our low crime rate, Singapore is ranked 137 out of 146 countries. Malaysia is ranked 55. This is higher than Indonesia (74), Philippines (86) and Thailand (100). It is slightly above US (58), UK (63) but lower than that of France (37). It is also quite close to Australia (66) and New Zealand (62). Malaysia therefore has a higher level of crime than surrounding Asean countries. The level of crime is roughly similar to that of US, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. The higher crime levels obviously are not a deterent for the thousands of Singaporeans that visit US, Europe and Australia / New Zealand every year. You cannot however argue that because thousands visit, it is therefore safe. There is a heightened level of risk which people consent to take because of the desire to visit. In the case of retiring in Malaysia, it would be useful to acknowledge the heightened level of risk which you are undertaking because of the desire to enjoy cheaper food, housing and cars.

So your point is, crime is everywhere. I m surprised that Brazil n Mexico were not in the countries u listed. Brazil n Mexico has one of the highest rate in murders. I bet Mr Loo already calculated the risks, criminal n or political n cheap foods for his retiring plan n everyone should do so if they plan to retire out of Singapore including Vietnamese, Thailand or Australia…

Mr loo this is the internet. People want to think they are the smartest. Either you are right or you are wrong. There is no middle ground. I have 100k followers on other platforms and i say what i think and dont care abt comments anymore. Sometime people would even pick on you because of 1 single word you say in yr title hve to apply to the world.
