I'm so glad to see Hunter going for a chicken sandwich. That Walker mower is very unique in the maintenance of the deck and lots of other stuff. I wish all mowers zero turns were made that easy to maintain. I enjoy the outdoors too a lot. I am a little i guess depressed because I developed a major diesel leak on my old Kubota. When I get a chance, I'll track down the problem and I have someone near by that knows these rigs lot more than i do so my Kubota is out of use for now. Bummer! Anyway, things happen and i go on each day with my head up. No other way. Glad to see this great video and glad that the weather there has cooperated or hope it has. God Bless. Michael from NW North Carolina

Hey Mike Hunter and Melissa, good morning. Glad you all got thru BK DAY and swimming at the neighbors too. Funday before Sunday ;-) It was a good videos on the care of the Walker Mower, you handle that mower like a PRO and would make a really good sales person. I think you are doing them (Walker Mower's ) a wonderful job of promoting their mowers! Good for you and your family that you have showed yourself as an honest and professional person that tells it like you see it. Keep up the great videos and the family involvement in the videos . You all have it going good for you. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Mike, I think it's ok to pressure wash under the deck! I own a tractor, lawnmower, excavator etc. You're usually not pressure washing that often and as long as you grease the bearings right away the grease pushes out any water infiltration into the bearing, just my opinion, keep it going you guys, love it.

Thanks for the Walker mower view. Not to sound repetitive or contrary, this confirms my earlier assertion this is a mulching deck, not a rear discharge deck. In this case, each blade is encased, or nearly encased with baffling. There is no discharge passage out the rear of the mower. In a rear discharge mower, two blades turn one direction, the third turns the opposite direction. There are no baffles to encase each blade, rather baffles to direct clipping out the rear, between the drive wheels. The blades/baffles direct the clippings out an opening at the rear of the mower. Just as your Toro demo unit has an discharge opening on the right side, a true rear discharge mower has a similar opening, but at the rear of the mowing deck. Clippings are intended to fly out behind the mower, just as the Toro has the clippings fly out the right side. The Toro could be similarly equipped with encasing baffles, making it a mulching deck, just as the Walker. There are two decks are outfitted with baffling (and most likely blades) that are different.

I had to laugh that I was actually watching you two before you started that. And the more I watch you two, the more I see how you two have became supportive of each other and friends. Hi Mike, I’m a gardener for a large western city. We use Johnn Deree mowers. Mines a 72” deck and we wash the decks every day. The grease fittings for the bearings are on top of the deck. We also grease them every day. I wish our decks went up that easy! We have to crouch down to wash. Have a day!!

@matthewheld85775 жыл бұрын
I wanted to throw something out there that you have not mentioned and may not be aware of. You talk about how well it mulches and cuts grass. A lot of that had to do with deck design and blade speed Walker mowers unlike other mowers; the blades are shaft driven and rotate off gear boxes. No belt to wear out or slippage. Much like a brush hog. You do need to keep extra shear pins On hand with a walker just in case you kit a hard object. It protects their gear boxes. Also a gear box design allows walker to customize blade speed for optimum cutting. Much like NASCAR and Indy cars can fine tune to few tenths. You can’t get that with pulleys.

Have a very small (30 inch) inexpensive ride on mower. Never mow the grass when its wet, never pressure wash the underside of the deck, have never replaced the spindle. The mower is a 2010 and still shown no signs of rust. Mower runs and cuts well. Have a small lot, compared to yours, approx 10,000 sq feet with lots of trees and flowers. I do clean under the deck with a scraper once a year before storing for winter. Works for me Good luck to you, the better you take care of the equip the longer it lasts, and trouble free it is.

Always great to see the excitement Hunter has for his chicken sandwiches. I'm thinking about hitting up burger King this Tuesdays and getting a chicken sandwich myself. Ha ha ha the mall crawler is actually Hunters personal limousine. As for the deck tilting that's an awesome feature I think Ventrac does something similar with their brush hog. I wonder if applying some sort of undercoating like a bed liner or something would make cleaning it easier, being that it so easy to get to I would assume applying it yourself wouldn't be to difficult. As for pressure washing under the deck and pressure washing bearings in general your totally fine to do it. Just use common sense don't use a 5 degree tip on 4200 psi washer then point blank it at the bearing. And of course grease your bearings after washing around them assuming they are serviceable.

Thanks Mike, Hunter & Melissa... Always a pleasure. Even though I would never use a machine like this on my extremely steep terrain, the machine fascinates me nevertheless...The rear discharge design of the deck really just lays it down based on my observations & the ability to mow " close to the edge, " remember the " Yes " album?, was clearly demonstrated here. Imho, scraping & blowing it out both below & above is more than adequate, however for those that feel the need to pressure wash the underside, it would be wise not to spray directly into the spindles either below or above deck. Some people take their blades to a shop to have them sharpened & balanced. I have always done mine on my bench grinder, I have it down to a science & come away with straight, razor sharp edges on the full width of my high lift blades that sliceses the grass, making for a smoother running machine that can be both felt & heard. (28) yrs. utilizing this method has never failed me... Bill on the Hill... :~)

Hunter I hoped you enjoyed that spicy chicken sandwich. Seems like a really good mower to me really easy to clean the deck.
