I took a full year of philosophy in college. The professor was interested only in Hegel, Heidegger and Foucault. I think I may have sunk into depression that year. If only I had had a teacher like Stephen! More Philosophic Chinwag, Fellas!

Stephden, it is such a pleasure to bask in the light generated by your love of knowledge. The last course I had in my undergrad studies back in 1971 was an upper division course that was mysteriously denominated The History of Philosophy (obviously, I am speaking as an ancient person and the philosophers to be studied were of the ancient ilk). I was lured into taking it by one of my favorite history professors with his smiling assurance that he was teaching this summer semester class and that it was a history class that I would skate through.Turned out to be taught by the head of the Philosophy Depertment, was a real philospohy course and was the most challenging class of my life. BUT, I learned much (mostly disciplined study habits).

Can you post here (maybe up above?) the bibliographic info of Stephen's books? I would like to read them.

That was great! I wrote a paper on Hildegard of Bingen, I think for a music class. Now I have to go find it so I can see what it says. Ha!

Re: Freedom . . . Elie Wiesel in "Man's Search for Meaning" essentially says freedom only exists in the space between stimulus and response. In that space, however brief it may be, man is free to choose.

this is awesome but it was Victor Frankl who wrote Man's Search for Meaning but its understandable that you may have made that mistake!
