If you have small hands or are struggling to lift the cards, try doing it to the side. Gravity will push the cards down and you can easily slip them underneath. Finish with a riffle as you turn your hands back up straight and it's still invisible and if your worried, say something like 'Yeah, I've been doing this trick since....' Or something else like that. The person will look up at you and if you make eye contacts you can quickly do the pass and there's no way they'll see it. Thanks for the great tutorial!

@MagicVycka Push up with your pinkie against the bottom card of the top packet. There shouldn't be much friction between your pinkie and the card you want to pass. If you have a very moist pinkie then that could be what is causing the problem. I would just recommend experimenting with slightly different finger positions to fix the problem

Very clean, and detailed explanation. Though I thought you needed some time allocated in explaining on covering the massive break on the left side of the video when you do the pass. It's not as important since this is for beginners, but I think it's important to point out as well. I also see a lot of people on KZbin having a DEATH GRIP on the deck when doing the pass. Smoothness is one thing you pointed out, and having a gentle grip on the deck really helps with that. Just my two cents~

Thanks for the tutorial! I’ve been doing the Herrmann Pass pretty much exclusively for as long as I’ve been doing magic. That said, one of the best covers I’ve found for any pass is solid eye contact with your participant(s).

After countless videos I watched on how to do the pass this video is the one that taught me how to do it. I'm not fast and unnoticeable yet but that comes with practice. The thing I missed that Jarek:120 or anyone else didnt mention was moving the top packet to the right before trying to lift it up.

I really like this move, I use it almost all the time and it's completely invisible. One thing I recommend for people who are just starting out, I would look into learning the riffle pass. In my experience, it gives me justification in bringing my hands in a position that the classic pass requires since everybody riffles their deck. And it could also justify any movement of the packs. Some spectators just assume it's because of the riffling. It has like a 90% success rate. Good luck!

cool man. i learned something new and thought i had it down pretty well. getting the top packet not to *hit* is tough as a beginner. my advice, imagine the packet switching paces on an angle, it curves around the bottom packet very smoothly and sharply. you have to really want it, like when scoring a goal in hockey, you have to really want it to work.

You do it so well! For those dicks that criticise comments of people who claim to have learned it in five, I learned it 5 mins too. The mechanics of the move are not that difficult and you may well be able to do it first time as I was some 5 years ago. The difference being it was rough and quite obvious move. Too make fluid is what takes the time and practice. It took several weeks of doing over and over again before I was comfirtable adding it into my acr. 5 years later im still using and improving my technique There are dozens of good tips to help in this video. Most of the comments are about difficulty of moving the packs, the bestvadvice would be to swing cut 2/3 of the deck to the bottom. This makes the top packet half the thickness and much much easier to handle. Either way be prepared for a sore little finger for the first few days of practice. Hope this was useful

try raising the top packet a bit when you drag it back. keep it isolated. by keeping it isolated it wont interact with the other deck, thereby the card below the break wont be pulled along. also, use the 4 fingers that apply pressure to the bottom packet to keep a grip on the top card aswell. hope that solves it ;)

I'm new to magic, but I've found that making the pass while they make eye contact works perfectly. Sometimes I don't misdirect them, purposely, to see if I'm getting better... ultimately, if they are looking to catch you, they'll see something, but can't quite really put it in words. Someone told me recently, "I see what you did there"... consequently, he didn't get to see more tricks, but I did ask him later on: "what is it that you think you saw?", and he said: "I don't think my card was in the middle" - so he had a clue, but was not 100% certain on what had happened. But if they really wanna see magic it's super easy to distract them for half a second to make the pass.

its definitely going to take longer than 2 days. i've been practicing mine for a year, and while it is a little undetectable, i still wouldn't say I mastered it. But don't give up! This move can be used in so many situations that you simply have to learn it to get good at magic.

To make this pass even more invisible look at the person and make eye contact but tell them like so you know how in magic blah bah bah. it really helps to give you that second of misdirecting their eyes from the cards

Yeah, this move is best done during an offbeat or a moment of relaxation. If you practice a ridiculous amount you can do it while your hands are being burned; but it's an unnecessary risk to take.

Yeah i got this too. I don't know if it's solved by now but push up with your pinky (or get a bigger break). So all in all try to get a tighter grip. Really push up with the pinky.

Asad i'd love to see another video of the classic pass in general explaining the common mistakes and tips to make it invisible like you performed on the Disturb Reality channel, I'd love to see a spectator's angle video but the reason iam asking for a spesific new video is because after seeing the video you've posted on Disturb Reality channel I still couldn't perfect my pass and people kept telling me it's visible, looking on your passes I can see nothing even watching it 4X times slower so I belive there are more tips you can teach.

when I do it, my index of my bottom hand is curled under the deck and supports the top packet when it comes under. It helps the moving packet from falling apart.

Actually , months later, i can do the classic pass , only need a little bit more speed . I practised so hard that my fingers had burn bruises, but thanks to that over practising , i developed a muscle memory :) . Thanks for ur advices , and great tutorial :) .

These are "The Expert at the Card Table" cards, similar to Bee Stingers, the difference being Stingers' pattern fades to white, instead of the white border

thx for this great vid, i am struggling a bit though. i have the mechanics sort of down, and sometimes its very smooth but the speed is no where near good enough, i am using a crappy pack of cards from my local store i dont even think they are a brand. it just says playing cards on the front. would bicycle cards make this much easier?

I was thinking of a trick that has the properties of the classic pass. so first, you ask the spectator to choose a card and then place them back in the deck. when we use the pinky break on the card, we put their card right on top of the pinky or the bottom of the top pack. then as we proceed on doing the classic pass, we flip the bottom card of the pack, which is also their card, and finish the classic pass trick. then at the end, as we sum up the conclusion. make the spectator do whatever, like snap their fingers. and, their card will be the only card that is flipped the opposite way when they look through the deck.

While practicing this, I noticed that occasionally I would accidentally turn over the card under the break. I think I figured out how to not do that, but then I got interested and started figuring out how to do that on purpose, so that you end up with the chosen card upside down in the middle of the deck. I'm still working on it, so I don't know how effective it will be; but do you know if anyone else already does that, what if might be called, any existing tutorials, etc?

I have the same problem. try to pass the top packet upward, rather than to the side. Make sure that your pinky is dug in decently deep in the deck too.

Well done for a really clear video. I'm rekindling a childhood hobby. Other than a couple of non-sleight of hand card tricks that I'll probably never forget, I've hardly gone near a deck in about 30 years. The other day I completely baffled a friend of mine, and it encouraged me to find out more. I've only been practising passes for about 2 days, and I have a question. When I practise, I try to mimic a volunteer choosing a card and replacing it, to get the little finger break, ready for the pass. I'm worried another person won't make life as simple for me. Have you made a video with any tips to get the little finger break without it being too obvious?

The problem I find with doing the pass (and im probably not doing it 100% correctly) is that when you're standing in front of someone, straight on, your left hand / fingers have to open up and drop down, and you can see that packet being pulled. The only cover for this is tilting the cards down, but that looks kinda weird. Could you do the pass in front of the mirror?

what I would do is lift your pinki finger a little bit more so that it doesn't come into contact with the bottom card. i had the same problem and that's what i did. practice in such a way that the two packets of cards don't contact each other at all and you should be set.

I could never get my pass to work with my right index finger curled on the top of the deck...do you have any advice on that, or is that position really necessary? I always have to rely on a dip or a riffle or something, and it seems to me that without those deceptive moves, my pass doesn't look natural. If you want to perform this move in front of the spectators but you're not really confident, I think you should do it with the deck face up to perform a color change, that will get your spectators' attention into the cards, not your hands
