As a 3-year Hobbyist, I watched this tutorial when was first posted a year ago. I had no idea how to do the Classic Pass at the time. The teaching on this is the best I have ever come across for this sleight. Fast forward a year and have used the Classic Pass many times in performance-- all thanks to this amazing teaching-- Thank you!!

That first fast pass he did was one of the best I've ever seen! Jeremy, I gotta tell you, I enjoyed this video so much I watched it twice, back to back. I've been ridiculed over the years for sharing my enthusiasm for the classic pass and it felt so encouraging and uplifting to hear you and your friend Mr Malek talk in such high regard of this move! His explanation of pulling the bottom packet up through was so brilliant! Thank you for sharing Mr Malek and thank you Jeremy!

Yes I’ve never heard it explained that way but it does feel like you’re pulling the bottom packet up through the top packet. It even looks like that from the inside view.

Got ahold of my first sleight of hand book at age 8. And it’s the pass I remember those illustrations for even today. I believe it was a Dai Vernon hardcover book with purple dust jacket. Can’t remember the name. I kept practicing up until around the age of 24. Then life happened and it became less and less. Recently I saw a short of a great trick and now I can’t stop. I’ll be buying a deck tomorrow :).

@@Dracula_sb so nice to hear about someone else doing the same. It’s amazing to see how far the craft has came. For my first 10 years it was learn from a book or don’t learn. My home town of Muncie Indiana had this little one room magic shop that was my oasis and the old magician that ran it the only feedback I could get. I spent every dime I made in there haha.

In the interview he said, "if you have time to watch tv, you have time to practice." I've been taking his advice and practicing the pass while watching TV. It's fun getting to the point where I'm staring at the deck in my hands while doing the move and it's just... done. The top and bottom packets have switched places. It's surreal.

I think cards without white borders on the card backs like Bicycle can help obscure the move. A darker environment like a bar and you can fudge passes all night long. The average spectator will have no clue because they have no idea such a move is even possible.

Here's a quick routine anyone can do, even a noob. First, go full Penn Gillette and give a full explanation of the classic pass. Show all the angles and perform the move. Second, explain that you will show how fast a pro can perform the classic pass, while clipping a bottom card to the top. Double lift the magic card and place 'the card' in the middle of deck. Challenge the audience to see if they can catch you doing the classic pass. Little hand movement and show the card at the top of the deck. Basically convince the audience you are doing the classic pass, while doing a simple ambitious double lift. You can be a wizard at the classic pass by doing another trick.

I’m in AZ and it’s really dry here, and I’ve learned in that. So if it’s a tad humid, or if my hand sweats a bit, I’m constantly pulling the selection alone to the bottom (bc my finger tip is grippy from the moisture, and the nail is dry and slick). What’s a way to counteract this: a bigger break? Just make sure my pinky isn’t contacting the selection when I pass?
@Chronyql
@Chronyql 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I’ve dealt with that before, and I’ve never been able to solve it without gripping too hard with the top hand and making the whole pass look tense

Let me ask you something, whats the purpose. Is it just for color change? if color change is what you want. Theres a lot better color change out there. Erdnase change is better and more angle proof. If theres no application, just do double undercut or bluff pass. It achieves the same thing and more efficient.
@Chronyql
@Chronyql 3 жыл бұрын
I get your point. But a spread pass is a transition move. It happens on the offbeat and allows for some pretty remarkable sleights. And out of all the passes I know, it’s the only one that I can pull while someone is burning my hands. No running, no misdirection, just execution on the offbeat, and it’s done. Not saying it’s the best in all circumstances, but it is great for a lot of different circumstances

@msquared598
@msquared598 3 жыл бұрын
@@braham_1137 Cardini and other changes look great, but out of all the controls I know, Turnover Pass is the one I have mastered and the Classic Pass is difficult, let us admit that, and adding the spread pass to the list is my next Goal. It uses the natural use of the spread to cover and that is one action than two actions.

I can do the Pass. I just don’t understand the status of the Pass because the Hermann Pass, which is just the opposite, is easier to do unseen. The Hermann Pass starts hidden under the deck and finishes under the cover of a subtile movement of the right hand which looks like squaring the deck. It is impossible to do this with the Pass, because at the start, the right hand can not cover the deck and the moving upper part at the same time. So you always need greater moves or patter as misdirection.
