2 Peter 3:1-13, especially vss. 8-10. God is timeless (it means nothing to Him). The fact that Christ hasn't returned actually shows the grace of God "not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." (ESV) However, the time will come when He will return when we least expect it (vs. 10; Matt. 24:45-51) God bless you for this series. I have thought the same thing speaking of the kingdom of God as leaven. So far in history I think the dough has been pounded, beat, and rolled in order for the leaven to be spread throughout the globe. The leaven has reached all areas of the batch of dough (first through the Roman roads, then sailing across the pond, then air travel to all parts of the world, and now it spreads by simply clicking and sharing on cell phones). Now it needs to be baked in the oven for a good while to start exponential growth by respiration of the yeast to make the dough rise. The state of the whole world today may be the very baking of the dough. Although it may get hot, the gospel will rise and grow because of it.

Hi Bruce, It is my understanding of the word thousand, is the greek word Chilias which is a plural, thus using "a" is not correct and makes the reader assume it is just 1000 years, however chilias is plural and means more then one. Denoting that the greeks and romans used the word to begin a count and thus did not say merely one thousand years. Example is: a dozen = 12, as is one ton = 2000 pounds, there are more examples but I have made the point with the above. From Luke 10:35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out TWO PENCE, and gave them TO THE HOST, and said unto him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, WHEN I COME AGAIN, I will recompense thee.
@GoreBruce3 жыл бұрын
The word 'thousand' in Greek is treated as a adjective. An adjective is grammatically required to agree with the word it modifies in gender, number, and case. Here, the word thousand modifies 'years,' which is neuter, plural, accusative. Therefore, 'thousand' is neuter, plural, accusative. As a matter of Greek grammar, the phrase is universally and correctly translated 'a thousand years.' Of course, the number is intended to project an extended period of time, stretching well beyond one thousand years, as I argue in this presentation.

The capital of the Old Covenant regime was permanently destroyed in 70 a.d. A city was eventually built at the same site, which went by the same name, but from the point of view of biblical eschatology, it is just another city.

Keep the teachings coming! I Love watching all of them! quick question, I take it that 2 Peter 3:1-13 is talking about the end days of around 70AD? dispensationalists love to point to this verse (to prove that we are living at the end of days. Devil's advocate (or should I say angels advocate) It does sound global, at the very end and a second coming if you know what I mean?
@GoreBruce3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and the encouragement. I take the view that 2 Peter 3 refers to 70 a.d., and the view that the temple was the centerpiece of the Old Covenant 'world.' There is much more to be said on that point, but that's my short answer!

@@GoreBruce I feel like that there are parallels between dispensationalists vs semi- preterists and constitutional conservatives vs mainstream conservatives/ progressives. In both cases evangelicals/conservatives ( a lot of cross-over), don’t go back to the original document, don’t do their own research or see how it was originally intended. Instead, they rely on what is popular at the time, very lazy, and don’t do their homework. Both think they know their history, but it’s this “normie” version of it (to use a popular internet meme). Both probably started around the nineteenth century (progressive era)?. “The constitution is living breathing documents where you can read anything you want in it” etc.

Satan is bound by the Gospel of Christ. Where the Gospel is faithfully proclaimed, Satan looses his power to deceive. Where the Gospel is marginalized or repressed, Satan gains new footing.

In my lifetime, have never seen people be confused about what g ender they are a d the many, many other things we see happening now. Sure seems to be going " bad to worse." The optimistic part is not until Jesus' second coming and establishing of the New heaven and earth.

Thanks for the perspective. Bear in mind that there has never been a time in history when things did not seem to be going from bad to worse, measured by 'in my lifetime.' One person's lifetime is a very small measure of the sweep of 2000 years of history.

In the Old Testament, there is a character that appears on multiple occasion who is called 'The Angel of the LORD,' that is, 'The Angel of YHWH.' It is commonly understood that this is Christ appearing for various purposes in the Old Covenant era. Some take this to be the same a Michael, mentioned in Daniel as the prince of the people of Israel. At times in Revelation, the angel who appears descending from heaven is apparently the same angel as the Angel of the Lord.
@ottoman90293 жыл бұрын
truth. while Christ is divine hence uncreated, this in no way dispels the fact that there are theophanies where He appear as an angel in the Old Testament, and as a man in the Furnace with the 3 Hebrew boys, and as a man clothed in linen in Daniel's vision.

Isn't John just re-telling the same story again in Revelation 20. Isn't the judgement after Armageddon and after Gog/Magog? Same battle that ended (past tense) with the Dead being judged in Rev 11 and also Rev 20. Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. Can't be two final judgements. John must be just telling the same story from the angle of Satan's role. Full-Preterism makes more sense.

I enjoy your lectures brother. You deacribed yourself (in another video) as a preterist regarding the book of Revelation. If your view and interpretation of Revelation is preterist, and that is my persuasion byw, how come you see a thousands years a long time into the future? Not consistent imho. Sounds like you want to be honest with the text and the creess at the same time. In matters of eschatology, that is an impossible task. Many blessings.

This is way, way, way too allegorical for me. This would mean that Revelations doesn't mean a single word in a literal sense!? 😳🤔
@J.F.3312 жыл бұрын
I believe we are incorrect to assume it to be literal in any way. John in the very first verse states that Jesus made known (the Greek word being used is the word for signified or symbolized) to His servant John. Consider this analogy, when driving down the highway, you see a sign that says 30 miles to some city or town. Is the sign the actual place you are driving to or is it simply pointing you to the place you want to be? Obviously the latter is true. That is exactly what Revelation is doing, it is using prophetic symbolism (symbolism you can actually find in the Old Testament quite often) and imagery to point us to the reality of something. Consider this also, read the Old Testament prophets (Isaiah about Assyria and Jeremiah about Babylon) and then read the same accounts in 1 and 2 Kings and ask yourself the question, does the imagery and symbols that the prophets use ever show up in the historical accounts? Short answer, they do not. That’s because the prophets are telling history through the lens of poetic imagery while the author(s) of Kings is documenting historical events. The same applies to the book of Revelation. I encourage you to read Revelation while also reading Josephus’ The Wars of the Jews (a historical account of the Jewish/Roman War and tell me if you don’t see some kind of parallel.

In Rev 19:19 the kings of the earth and their armies make war against God this is Armageddon. All of the saints both living and the dead have been gathered prior to this battle and they come with Christ to slay the armies. Then In Rev 19:20 the beast and false prophet are cast into the lake of fire, Rev 20:2 Satan is bound for 1000 years. In Rev 20:4 we see the 12 disciples who sit upon thrones along with 12 other elders and they judge the 12 tribes of Israel. We also see the SOULS of those saints who were slain in the Great Tribulation, they all live and reign in Heaven with Christ for 1000 years while Satan is bound. Now in Rev 20:5 we see one of the most spectacular events in scripture which is the 1st resurrection of all Saints they are resurrected at some time during Satans little season but before the Gog/Magog battle which is when the Nations and their armies go against Israel, God descends upon the Mt. of Olives and splits it so the saints can escape, then he consumes them with fire as mentioned in Rev 20:9 and Satan is cast in the lake of fire where the Beast and false profit are. Then we have the millennial reign of Christ and his Saints. The Great white throne judgment isn’t a resurrection those people are not save by the blood of the lamb they are judged by their own works, the saints were all saved by the blood of the lamb. Remember John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ALL OF THE SAINTS BOTH THE LIVING AND THE DEAD ARE GATHERED AND TAKEN DURING THE TRIBULATION: read these verses carefully and think what it is saying. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
