55 Chevy Gasser Gets a Gnarly Big Block! Drive line Swap - 1 Guy 1 Weekend

Two years ago when I was originally putting my 55 Chevy together I had a 454 freshly built for it. Unfortunately the time line of the car being finished happened sooner than the motor being completed. So instead of waiting I bought a bone stock motor from a 1 ton truck, slapped on the tunnel ram and stuffed it in the car. It worked fine last summer but the other motor has been sitting in the garage taunting me. It was finally time to motor swap the 454 between the rails. While I was at it I decided to upgrade the transmission (a rebuilt TH400 with a high stall and shift kit).
There were a few hiccups along the way but I managed to get the drive line swapped and broken in over the weekend. This new motor sure sounds good! and boy does it like to rev. This car is really going to liven up when it hits the street again.

Love watching , I'm 66 been messing with these old rods for years. I have a 52 Crosley wagon with a speedway drop axle and a small block Chevy. My best advice is keep the ones you really like because I Have let to many slide through my fingers when someone offered enough money. Keep up the good work!

Had 'everything' for my new 5.0 Mustang motor. Trickflow heads, polished Saleen upper intake manifold, ported Holley Systemaxx lower intake, Crane gold aluminum rockers, new pushrods, etc, etc. .......everything....except a weird thread pitch pipe plug for the Saleen manifold. A day later and multiple trips to multiple parts stores I finally found what I needed at a plumbing supply shop.

You are "The Man" I'm 77 and love what and how you do things. My last project was in 2005 a 67 Camaro with a 427 BB Tri Power. That car was an animal. I can't get enough of your work. PS: On the engine mounts bite the bullet get a set of Polyurethane mounts. I tore new rubber one's on first start up and abuse. The solid ones will take all the fun out of the ride and the Polys get the job done without failure. Just Saying!

Heck, I didn't even know what you were talking about when you were describing the components you had on the shelf. Now you can use those wood chips to clean up all that oil. And Man she sounds sweet. I was lucky with my 55, original gastank when I bought the car over 50 years ago still in there. Bought it in October of 1969 when I was a young punk kid Now Im a aging punk old kid,LOL! Ha!. I sandblasted and painted my gastank in 2012 and put it back in for another 50 years. Have you seen that 6 second 55 that guy is building on KZbin Riding with AlexTaylor crazy fabrication on that car. ... .later....Glenn

Flatlanders scared of a little rain. My set up was a lot like yours right down to the little ditch that always hungup the cherry picker. I put bigger castered wheels on it so it wouldn't get stuck as easy. But we work in the rain or we'd get nothing done. Had a 2 1/2 car garage when I lived in forks but onlya one car door. So lots of jockeying and it was always a cluttered mess. And to make it worse the house was one of the oldest houses in town so after 80+ of the city graveling grading the alley . The alley was higher than the garage floor so I put a sump pump in to keep the water out but on downpour days sometimes I overwhelmed the sump and the back half would be flooded. But think about bigger wheels on the cherry picker it really makes life easier.
