55 Chevy truck wood bed install (highlights)

For those of you who have been following along, I finished the body work on the cab corner and rear fenders, now we see the truck back from paint and I install a new wood bed. The paint job is terrible and will have to be redone, but the wood bed came out noce.

It's fun to drive. It rattles, and squeaks going down the road but you can feel the road in this thing and sometimes I miss that in newer cars. But I wouldn't want to drive it to California any anything!

That is one beautiful truck. Definitely requires a patience and highly skilled craftsman to do this type of stuff. I have never been that skilled at this type of work, but then again I've never really applied myself at doing it either. However, my step father is very good at this type of stuff. Looks like you really enjoy this type of work Wyatt, very cool, and maybe someday I can take some time, learn a new skill, and attempt this type of work. Take care Wyatt and thanks for sharing this.

I like doing body work and fabrication. This truck was sold in November so we could get a new car for my wife. The truck was fun to work on but I'm getting older and their was just too much work to be done to make it. Thanks for The support!

We took it out a few times since getting it back together. It's still a little rough but the Hillbillies love it around here. When ever we park someone always comes over and takes a look. Your project with the '55 truck is looking really good. I can see that it takes a lot of time in putting that wood in the bed. That's some painstaking measurements to be sure those holes are going to line up. And the color of the stain with the polyurethane coating all stands out. Great work Wyatt!

Thank you Terry. You are correct. The kit is pretty good but they leave the holes up to you. It was a trick getting everything to line up, including getting bed straight on the frame, but I'm happy with the results. Now if the paint shop would have done there job I'd be real happy.

A friend of mine did that with his 65, he put it all together in his basement over the winter, and then disassembled it and rebuilt it in the driveway in the summer. It was funny to see a truck bed in a basement wit only a hatch door wide enough for a person to walk through.

The bed came out awesome! It's funny but the Oak is very hard but the poly -not so much. 🤔 The good part is there are a ton of cover options to keep the bed pristine like rubber runners, moving blankets, Astro turf, carpet padding... Nice job!

My fist job when I left school was working for a car painter friend of mine and he was always fussy about water in the air line or painting with even a hint of moisture in the air. I had to give up because of bad nose bleeds from bending over sanding, was hand done in those days.
