Good stuff Artie! You solved the big problem by replacing the blown head gasket. I'd run it like it is until it's ready for a rebuild, then you can always go with new valves and guides when you do the engine rebuild.

Hello Noel. The actual belt tension adjustment is done by the fan pulley. The governor was an option on these machines. The belt tension is fine though. We will be removing the top end off in the spring. Thanks for watching 🔧👍

How's she goin'? This engine is a mystery eh. You have done everything and still not getting it to run the way you want. Maybe by taking the head off you'll find the problem. I'm thinking the problem was not just one thing but a series of little things that caused the poor performance. Good luck. Take 'er easy!!

Valve gaps can make a huge difference on some small engines and in other engines it does not seem to make a difference. I still think it might be a valve issue, maybe one is bent from the over revving. I am looking forward to seeing what you find
