I've owned this monitor for about six months and I can't imagine ever going back to a smaller monitor. I would only consider swapping it out if they made an OLED version. Having such an expansive canvas for all my windows while working is indispensable. It's like tech from the future.

It's also worth noting, if you connect a USB drive to the (SERVICE) port, and then connect the monitor to your PC using the USB B cable, the USB Drive gets connected to your PC. This allows you to just leave that USB connected to the PC, and when you need to flash the monitor, upload the newest firmware, and the monitor will read it. You mentioned a few times in your videos it's a pain to pull the cover and connect the USB drive. This way, you can just leave it plugged in.

Upgraded to this after my G9 OLED died 2 months ago and man, what a huge improvement. I miss the OLED, but the more aggressive curve and larger real estate were worth the trade-off. Plus, no more of the clunky Tizen os. I didn't know about the Secret Labs Arm but will be getting it soon. The only way I'll switch from this one is if/when they release an OLED version of the 57".

That’s good to know. Yeah I didn’t get much help from the vendor either since it could have been a driver clash or anything. It worked for a few days, then would have a driver error that needed the whole thing cleaning out and reinstalling. Managed to get a full refund in the end, although the 4090 was twice the price almost! 7900XTX still the only one to get proper 240hz at native resolution though 🔥

Your original videos helped convince me this monitor was worth it, had it since Dec and not regretted it once. For coding work its perfect, being able to have so many windows open is awesome. In my mind this is a productivity workhorse, the res and with no worries about OLED burn-in make it ideal. I don't really use it for gaming (i've an OLED for that) but did fine certain games struggle with a fisheye effect, Cyberpunk especially. HDR outside of games isn't great IMO, feels washed out compared to my LG C9. The most important thing is I'd really recommend not using it with any machine that can't support the full res, say a laptop with an older HDMI port or older Thunderbolts. I had to use it at 5120x1440 until I got the right TB->HDMI cable and it was horrible in desktop usage.

I bought the 57" Samsung Odyssey G9 about four months ago after doing a LOT of research (which included watching your review several times). At this point, I can't imagine using anything else. Sure, OLED would be nice for gaming, but I don't mind the matte screen at all and you just can't beat this resolution for productivity and everyday use. The single issue I have is that although it sleeps and wakes seamlessly with my gaming PC and work laptop, it doesn't play nice with my older MacBook Pro.

@mikeh9434
@mikeh9434 6 күн бұрын
Great overview! The perfect ultrawide is probably a hybrid of the G9 57 and the U4025QW. Short term the U4025QW is still better in my opinion because of the 8K resolution limit on M3 Max preventing the G9 from being set to a "usable" scaled resolution. It's Apple's fault, but I dont want to be forced to use PBP, because the whole point is a single large screen. I paired my U4025QW with a ROG XG17 mounted underneath for fast-paced games (also solves the Zoom issue for me). I will probably use the G9 just for sim-racing (and single player immersive games) rather than hybrid productivity with MacOS. If I had to choose one to use with Mac and PC, it's for sure the U4025QW for multi-monitor (TB daisy-chain) and multi-peripheral switching in a single KVM

can you lock this monitor in such mode that your pc sees it as two separate 4k monitors? I could see it as beneficial for screen sharing for example - at my work sharing simply an app is not really possible due to frequent switching between them. Or maybe could you tell if having a laptop on the stand is manageable with a monitor of this size and curvature? so one could share a laptop screen for the call purposes?
@PeteMatheson
@PeteMatheson Күн бұрын
Very true! And yes you can, it has PIP so you can technically run 2 outputs from your computer and display them as 2 separate screens with a seamless join in the middle, although when I've tried that there's always been a faint but noticeable line down the middle which is awkward when a window crosses both sides. I have my Macbook on a stand next to this screen and also works fine, so that's also an option!

Depending on where your machine goes, you'll probably need some 3-5m HDMI/DisplayPort cables, and potentially the USB-A to USB-B cables if you're planning to use the built-in USB Hubs. The length gives you the freedom to run them properly through the cable management on the monitor arm, as well as around the desk (if you want to try your best to get a totally wire-free desk setup)

Owner of an older G9 49". Trying to decide between the 49" OLED and the 57".... As someone who has used both, is there anything to OLED and Text Readability and/or other Productivity uses with an OLED?

Isnt with a Mac the text too small with 7680x2160 pixels? Crisp yes, but size wise? I have 27 inch 1440p monitor with height 335 milimeters and from my understanding 57 inch with height 392 milimeters should have either 1600 pixels or 3200 pixels for retina on height for Mac to render text in the same size, or am I wrong?

I bought this monitor with a Putorsen mount arm(120€) from Amazon France. This mount arm is compatible with the screen and works perfectly. However, I often use this monitor in PIP mode with my PC, my Samsung tablet or my Xbox Series X. Unfortunately my sound bar (Sonos Beam 2) is connected in Spdif to my PC. Therefore, when I connect my console or my tablet, I have no sound. For the console, I can go through a headset in BT. But for the tablet (USB-C -> HDMI), I have no sound. I had thought about adding small jack speakers, but I didn't want to add wires. On my old monitor, by connecting directly in USB-C, I had the sound on my tablet and the display on the screen. It's really frustrating. We have pretty much the same opinion on the negative aspects of this screen. And the cover on the back is really poorly made!!! I hesitated to return it and wait for a new, more functional version. But the comfort of daily use encouraged me to keep it.

yeah I tried using the 32'' 16:9 4k 240hz oled and 1080p @ 480hz 480hz is nice but after using the samsung its hard to go back to a 32'' 16:9 it would at least have to be a 45'' 800r curve sweet spot or 55-65'' to be decent I think I could settle for the 45'' oled 5120x2160 @ 240hz next year when I am not using the samsung.

Will a Mac mini be compatible?

It will be compatible but depends on which generation as to the resolution / refresh rates you could hit

If you combined this monitor with the Dell monitor's KVM functionality, USB-C Hub with USB-A, USB-C, 2.5G Ethernet, and PD; this monitor would be close to untouchable. To be honest, I'd even be happy enough if it required two USB-C outs if the issue is bandwidth over Thunderbolt 4. One for the screen output, the other for everything else. I would accept this as a solution. Please, Samsung..... pleeeeease

For gaming it looks cool. For productivity i wouldn't like it. I have a 34 inch wide screen and switching back to a smaller monitor

Haloing is so terrible compared to other MINI-LED displays like the ASUS PG32UQX. HDR also looks absolutely terrible and washed out on Windows.

Oh for sure! But the 57" - I couldn't trade that for a smaller screen. Not until the OLED version comes out now :D
