I have a set of 101s, the FR-101SD and the FL-101 Xmtr. They haven,t been used in a very long time and the chassis on one of them is definately "hot", if you know what I mean. When I get the money and the time I want to recap both of them and get them back in the shack. Out of all of the radios that I have had, the 101s are my favs. Your videos are legend. Thank you.

I’ve been watching your videos for a long time. Just picked up my first 101 (a FT-101EE) last week. I love it. Just finished an alignment and it’s receiving great and putting out over 100 watts now. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos. It’s helped me a lot.

I have two FT101E's and a ZD. All were faulty in some way. I didn't have the heart to throw them away and although i'm no technician even I could see the very high quality build and components used. It's not stretching a point to say that they are things of beauty. I was waiting for someone on youtube to help me- and along came you Buddy. I have now repaired the 'ZD (faulty display) with your guidance and now feel confident to tackle the 'E's.I (1: "crispy critters" under the tube bases, 2: Low Rx sensitivity on all bands). No need to reply - just spend the time making these fabulous videos. Just wanted you to know that your expertise and video presentation are both priceless.

Hi buddy, you have my interest in the FT101 yaesu in a series package. I really feel these radio are very advanced when they came out. I have one FT101B and would very much like to learn how to improve sound value. With your help it will sound awesome. You fix radios and that has my attention. God bless you my friend thank you for sharing your ideas.

Dennis, I agree. Nothing else on the market could touch these rigs when they first came out. Lot of feature packed in this transceiver. I think the "B" was one of the most popular rigs ever built. Thanks for watching my friend.

Nice collection of FT-101's.I just purchases my 1st this past weekend for $125 with all of the crystals except the 160 meter.Have not pulled the filter board too see what filters are installed.Hoping the AM filter is there but not a big deal if not.I usually am NOT a fan of Yaesu but made an exception on the FT-101B(Early Version).

Hi Buddy, I had an EE and handled thousands of messages through the Army Mars system. Also many phone patches. Never changed a tube or had to do any service. Those are great old radios. You sure are blessed with them. It would be great to see some videos on the 101. Sure, maybe do one on the receiver, then xmit, then maybe VFO, whatever you choose would be great. My opinion on video length is, a segment ends when you get tired or run out of parts. Too long, break it into many parts. Information from experienced technicians on vintage gear is priceless and hard to come by. 73
@TheRadioShop8 жыл бұрын
Hi Larry. I remember hearing the story's of these radios doing that. Handling lots of traffic. It really puts them to the test. I will break the videos up by section. Probably start with the heart of the rig. Power supply and rails.Thanks for watching.

At some point I was going to do a few videos in this model. Looks like you beat me to it. Great radios built like Sherman tanks. A few suggestions. Many HAM's do their own alignments on these and I think the final unit kind of throws them for a loop. Might not not be a bad idea to do a video on aligning the final unit and also using original Japanese tubes and American made tubes in the final. Many people seem to forget to change the plate cap when substituting American tubes. Like I said if you need anything like covers and knobs let me know, I have spares. One thing I don't have is a spare AM filter, nice score on that alone. I need to get another one some day for one of mine that doesn't have it Mike.
@TheRadioShop8 жыл бұрын
Good point on the tube substitution. I have seen many hams change out the originals and say I had no problems. They don't get it. You must change out C125 when you switch from NEC and Toshiba to any other tube. Or be prepared to replace them again.Hmmm, you need stuff, I need stuff. I will send you an email tomorrow....

Thanks for the 101 series! I just came across these. I have a 101E that I picked up in the early 90's that has since had it's finals go soft. I am considering the mod that allows you to use the 6883B as a replacement. Have you ever tired this on one of your 101's? Cheers!

Here my two questions , i've gotten this 101E from ebay.changed some boards around in it used cleaner on switchers an so on.....a changed the cap's under the diver tube....all is fine with that i think.....But when i plug the display in it gives a carrier on ssb,like full power,an this is with the carrier set off.this only happens with the display pluged in....an the other thing is the diver tube gets brighter as i talk....of course this is with the radio in ssb with no carrier....i hope i explained this so you can understand what i am talking about......i think a cb'er use to have this radio....any help would be appreciated........Gary....KC8HEF

This is indeed a strange problem. Sort of has me baffled at the moment. When I can get in the shop later this week I will look over the schematic. I am almost under the impression that both problems may lead to one solution. It almost seems there may be something out of place under the driver tube.

my issue with my 101ee is i have to fiddle with both the band switch and mode switch to get any noise/recieve out of the radio and the af gain don't work previous owner i guess had it wired to the max side of it so the slider is just there for looks. so just need to get the two switches looked at and fix the af gain get it aligned i be good to go provided all the caps etc are still in good condition must look them over next time i have it out of storage in the meantime i have a near mint cobra 2000 on the table with my 897d sitting on top of it
