I am a car dealer and I've seen variations of this happen at least three times to elderly women. Two out of the three times these elderly women came in desperately trying to sell their car and for insanely small amounts of money. One time was to repay the bank for the check that bounced after nearly two months (after being deposited). The other was when a scammer convinced this poor woman that she won a foreign lottery but needed to pay attorneys fees to get the money out of the country. She had given these scumbags every penny she had and the last thing she had to her name was the car she was basically trying to give away. Obviously we recognized the problem and explained to the ladies that they had been scammed. The scammers were so good that the women thought that we were the ones lying until we had the local police department send an officer down to help out. They put our senior citizens on lists of "targets" because they know they are soft targets. Very sad stuff. Great video as always.

Security clearances are no joke. Many moons ago, I had a neighbor who had been in the Navy and had transitioned to the civilian world in an IT position. We were friendly and chatted often as I was in a similar field. He later took a job as an IT contractor working for the DOD which required him to renew his security clearance. Before he moved away he let me know that he had put me down as a contact on his security clearance application. The FBI showed up at my house some time later as part of the background check and asked me a bunch of interesting questions about his habits: when he went to work, when he got home, who else on the block he was friendly with ... that kind of stuff. So I can see how Marc would have felt he needed to be up front about receiving a chunk of cash from Saudi. LOL.

Hi Marc, I recently bought a very nice Victorinox quartz with titanium case and sapphire crystal. It is slightly used but in pristine condition. Problem is that the band which is stainless link style is too small and haven't been able to find any matching links. Question, is there some source for additional links. I can't bring myself to replace the existing band, even though I bought a new, but different band for the watch. Marc, any help would be appreciated.

I had someone do the same basic scam to me on Craigslist except they sent a cashier's check to me for about $5000 for a $500 item. It was a real bank but a fake cashier's check and account number. Of course, they said it was a mistake and I should return the balance to them by Wells Fargo wire. Fortunately I called the bank and they said the check was fake and I would be on the hook after it didn't clear in a few weeks.

Man recently had someone try to get me to send PayPal details for a watch I had on eBay. Got an a mail from eBay saying I was doing the wrong thing & a possible shut down off my account!!😡 After telling them to check my reply’s (which of course they didn’t at first), everything was sorted)! All governments etc should start looking into these scammers & deal with them in a way that deters others, no more slaps on the wrist, the whole judicial systems (in all countries) need to crack down on this shit!!!👍

Pardon my ignorance, but how the bank didn’t verify the validity of the cheque in the first place?
@AlanHearnshaw6 жыл бұрын
Fadhli Dzil My understanding is that here in the states, banks have to honour cheques within a certain (short) timeframe, so they credit them to the account without full checking. It’s only afterwards-sometimes up to a month or two-that the cheque is found to be fraudulent. They then take the money back from the recipient, and they’ve lost out. Many frauds use this process to work.
