It’s a tool to drive up prices. They make you think it’s limited so you pay more. They could meet demand but that would drive down prices. We will see if this strategy pays off long term. I sold the two I had at the height of the bubble and will never buy another. I will not support a company that conducts business in this manner.

The wait list is a scam. Most AD will pass the watch to whoever is willing to pay more. That, or they sell it to grey market sellers. In any case, the watches will find their way to the grey market that sells at high mark-ups.

Wait list is a scam. AD most times won't honor your place on the list. They sell your spot for anyone willing to pay more. One way or another the watches end up in grey market of which their asking price, "Market value," is well above the RRP. Rolex and "high end" watches won't stop that practice because, well, it raises their value as a company.

For cosplay, a Submariner 007-Bond look-a-like is ok, but a "Raymond Red Reddington" ("The Blacklist") Rolex GMT Pepsi villain watch cannot be beat at a fantasy convention, if you have a good looking suit to go with it I think I may get a homage for my birthday? The bracelet: I for one prefer push-pins! They are barely visible, compared to screw heads. More importantly, pins stay put, unlike screws, of which some owners report losing watches due to screws coming loose in bracelets! With the right tool (in a kit for under 20 bucks), they are easy and quick to change as well. I have several bracelets I can swap now, and I avoided ordering any of them with screws!

Finding originality in watches is kinda rare these days. Maybe that's why I've owned so many Swatches in the past. Seems like 95% of watches are made to look just like, or very similar to another; and the prices run up and down the board. For a couple of months there was a billboard near my house for a blue Tutor dive watch that looked almost exactly like the Seiko SRPD51 I'd usually have on my wrist. At the stop light, I'd usually lift my wrist just to compare the two.

What is the actual model number of the watch? Most Duxots that I can see have a Japanese NH movement. I'd bet almost anything that a Swiss one would have an SW-200, although maybe another 2824 clone or possibly a Ronda R-150.

Something I also think about when talking homage watches is the person who isn't into watches, doesn't really know anything about Rolex or the Deepsea but sees a picture of it, falls in love and then sees the price and has to accept that it's unattainable because of the price (queue a comment about wait lists). They can now get the Duxot at a good quality for a reasonable price that for them is everything they want.

I have a few nice watches, nothing outlandish, but nice. I wanted a waterproof beater, something tough but not massive, a bit SKX007-ish but not that expensive. I went on Ali x and bought the cheapest Addiesdive submariner homage I could find, quartz, Miyota 2115, and £18.50 pounds sterling. I mean, basically in US we're talking $30 inc. tax and post. The thing looks lovely, I like wearing it (wtf??!) and in over a month, it's gained 1 second. I almost feel neglectful as I have these far dearer watches just sitting there unemployed while I opt to wear this 👍

Nice. getting impossible to ignore the Chinese homage brands now as the value for money is phenomenal. For their low cost, the quality, attention to detail and finishing are impressive. Sure, they are not original in design. The original watches they imitate are often to a much higher standard with much better movements but even so they are great options. For me this is a passive hobby, it gives me something to do when I don't have the time to do active hobbies and I don't want the pressure of grail watches, heirloom pieces and haute horology. Actually I feel that these issues can detract from the hobby. If a watch costs a years salary it's a ridiculous, ludicrous situation! I'd never pay more than a months salary and that expense for me is a rare splurge out. I can still get a very good watch for that and that's enough for me thank you very much, and I still do cheeky little Pagani/Addiesdive purchases.

I hate that they couldn't even be bothered to center "Helium Release Valve" on the rehaut. The H starts almost fully to the left of the 54 marker and the E is almost completely to the left of the 6 marker? Despite that, "Professional Use" looks much more centered, which means it isn't misaligned parts, the printing is just done incorrectly? Yikes. Also I guess on a $269 watch as long as it has 200m water resistance you might as well just print whatever on it. I highly doubt this would test to 1000m but I also doubt many places even have a rig to test that rating, and if they do they probably charge close to the value of the watch to do it, haha.

If you want a Rolex and you can’t afford one get a super clone. I’ve tried every homage and it never feels right. I’ve tried Pagoni, Steinhart, Invicta, Cronos and it always feels wrong. But my super clone is exactly what I want. It feels great to wear it and I can’t stop looking at it. If a had the money to responsibly buy a submariner I’d do it. But a super clone at around $800 makes sense. I get the look and the feel along with a quality timepiece without taking food from my kids mouths. And at the end of the day nobody cares about YOUR watch but other watch people. And when asked I always say it’s a clone.
