Another great video from the dynamic seagoing duo. One thing I think that’s missing from your series is a quick overview of the sail plan and rig type. Does the Capt prefer lower aspect or higher aspect rigs? Fractional or masthead rigs? Does the sail plan make it easier or more difficult to singlehand the boat? I’m semi on the market for a 32-39 foot sloop, designed for non overlapping fores’l so that tacking singlehanded isn’t as difficult. I’m not that tall so lower aspect main w a longer boom isn’t as big a concern for me as it might be for tall guys like you two. Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't be surprised if you were to get an offer from a television production company. A show about sailing and sailboats obviously. Not sure what the 'hook' might be. At the very least. Brokers ought to be queuing up to have you review their boats because you present a boat and all of it's 'features and benefits' better than anyone else I've seen. I believe that such a show, would do a lot to help demystify sailing. As a Brit, I can tell you that how you do what you do, would go down just as well here, as in CONUS.

beautiful boat thanks for the look - what are the maintenance cost differences btw. wood and fiber glass hulls?
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
in a boat this age, they would likely be similar. Conventional wisdom says to save 10% of the purchase price per year on maintenance and upkeep. Over time you'll just want to make sure your wood planks are in great shape and have them looked at each year during the off-season. One differing strategy is that here in the Northeast, we like to keep our wooden boats in the water over the winter to maintain good moisture content (and no drying/shrinkage) .

Another great video. I love watching. Will you give me some advice? For some time I have been looking at 30' Cape Dory boats. I sail alone. I find cutter riged and ketch. Which would you recommend for Lake Michigan sailing and why? Thank you for any advice you can give. Thomas
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Thomas. I think your question is whether you should go with a sloop set up as a cutter meaning that there are a head say an inner head stay for a stay so or go with a catch which has two masts,, but which can also have an inner stay for a staysail as many do I happen to personally like a split rig with two masts for easy sailing. Because I know I can go out and just set the head sale and the mizzen in the boat will be perfectly balanced and comfortable. There are of course tons of sloops out there which can be rigged easily enough for a single handing but just think about having that head sale on a roller Furler and the halyard and sheet for the mizzenmast right at your hands as you sit by the wheel… That makes a pretty comfortable and convenient way to control your boat thanks for your note

Cap do you think they teak oiled that cabin floor and left it to dry finish after, it would protect the wood at depth but still give the natural mat finish after it drys off the surface ive been wondering if this would be preserve wood without the varnish on/off treadmill. The aft cabin and steering access was another lesson in practical layout and safe at sea system access ... Dare i say it but also a boat that would be even more usable and clean if it was E powered with regen on the motor.
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
Love the new e motors concept. Who loves a diesel (except of course when you really need it) But I am off for electric in a sailboat and makes a lot of sense. I’m still nervous about switching over in my car and I will hate to lose my hood cat!! Lol
@clivestainlesssteelwomble76653 жыл бұрын
@@YachtHunters Hi Capt. Would regular oil feeding external teak be effective protection without sealing with damage prone varnish?🤔 Has anyone tried it. Repower the Jag.. 😉😎 There are guys and gals out there repowering vintage E types and and other classic cars now ... Theres a chap in the UK that has used Tesla motors in vintage VW aircooled vehicles. He personally has an early crew cab pick up he uses as his familly vehicle that produces more power than if he had put a flat six Porsche engine it. It's still expensive in the UK but ford etc have promised to make and supply crate motors to do this sort of conversion. It makes considerable environmental and performance sence to electrify an existing ICE vehicle... as you re use 70%+ of the existing materials and energy invested in the vehicles construction. The battery's are the expensive and trickier part still... but new safer and cheaper types are arriving. Sailing Uma have proved the retro fit... A small high output generator can give economy and reliable E power back up. Again this vessel shows an element of that with its fuel sipping generator Its a Cat and brand new but take a look at the power system on this SA. The boat's in the water and the bilge looked spectacular. Englne looked ok. Layout looks fine. It crossed the North Atlantic and back. Neat provenance. How cheap do you realistically think this boat should be? I'm sure if you went in to the owner and offered in the low to mid 50's something could be worked out, which seems like a completely fair and good deal.

Well said Jeff. Whether anyone sells their old lawnmower or 20 year old car or sailboat , they put their dream price on the item. The buyer will determine the real value of any item of course but everybody starts basically at what they feel is fair price. At some point they will come to the decision fork in the road : take the cash or keep the item. Jeff your analysis is true
