#59 Kitchen Built-in Niches with Fermacell | Renovating an Abandoned Stone House in Italy

We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

HELLO!!! It's GREAT to see you both again. I'm happy you had a vacation - the mountains are so nice and cool at this time of year - and that you are "back in the saddle again!" The new video is wonderful. I'm very impressed that after all the time - YEARS - that you have been working on your lovely home, that you - Maddi and Vince - are STILL doing an A-ONE job on everything you do. No corners cut. No short cuts taken. I was watching Vince make the niches for the kitchen and bathroom. They were impeccable! Perfect! Hola soy Apolonia de Mallorca os doy la Nora buena en hora buena por ese trabajo que hacéis no sabía muchos desde los elementos que ponéis en la casa ya que es para mí muy nuevo y no lo conocía mi padre es albañil pero en la vida había visto eso lo que es bloques que usasteis para hacer la pared con el hormigón y lo que utilizáis en verde pladur esta especie de madera reciclada gracias Señor enseñar nueva maneras de construir la casa o reconstruida besos cuidados y espero vuestros nuevos vídeos

Thanks for the video! Just out of curiosity, how did you manage to draw the silhouette of the stone wall on the fermacell so it fits perfectly?

Thank you! There are different methods to do it. I mostly used wooden stick with a hole in it, to put my pencil, and then draw on the fermacell board parallelly to the wall following the stone shape with the other end of the stick! It's not very clear explained like this, sorry 😅 I'm pretty sure there is a detailed sequence in one of our video!

How do you keep the damp of the shower from getting into the hemp block and insulation and causing mold?

The hemblocks will managed the moisture without any problem, they are breathable so the vapor has a way out. Same thing for the fermacell board and the hemp insulation inside them, these are both breathable materials, with good hygrometry management properties. Being interior walls, there is no risk of condensation. A ventilation might also be installed to maximize the air flow and reduce even more the risk of moisture damage :)

Hanno funzioni diverse, la colla Fermacell (non e silicone) serve a prevenire le dilatazioni tra i panelli, e quindi le crepe. Quello che fa il nastro per giunti su un cartongesso standard
