I have always hated fruit cake! Until one Christmas my Mom made me taste her no bake and baked fruit cakes. OMW!!! I was hooked! 😆 At age 12 or 13. Ever since then I beg my Mom to make a no bake fruit cake all through the year! This is si similar to Mom's. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!💥🍽🎄❤

It sure is a good one. A keeper for sure...I've made it 52 years!!!! Our family had made it almost 100 yrs. I love traditions.....recipes passed down!!!! They call it the Doherty Fruitcake! The long history of the recipe is amazing to me!!!!

My daddy’s mother used to make this every Christmas. This recipe was one that my aunt gave the granddaughters one Christmas (we’re all grown with children and grands of our own). Thank you for sharing.

Oh i'm so glad you did this recipe! I knew the picture looked familiar. I just went back and looked where I'd written up a few of the old recipes my mom had from like 50 yrs ago and this is almost the exact same as her "Refrigerator Cake". The only differences are instead of butter her recipe calls for pet milk and instead of cherries it calls for preserves. Also it adds coconut. The directions are the exact same and I've not had it in probably 20 yrs. I like the cherries better. I think I'm going to combine the 2 recipes and make this soon.

I love Icebox or No Bake Fruitcake. Our recipe uses 1 cup Carnation milk instead of margarine and mixed candied fruit instead of maraschino cherries. (I'm not sure I've ever seen green ones.) It doesn't call for raisins but that would be a great addition for moisture and texture. I was going to make some, but my marshmallows are old. I don't want to ruin the expensive ingredients! Back in the 1970's, we would save the cracker box and line it with waxed paper and form the fruitcake right in the box!

Never heard of this before but it looks just like fruitcake, bet it tastes good. I remember the days of banging crackers in a bag, I still buy whole crackers, I like them better, I do them ahead and have ready in the freezer. I spent the past 2 days making fudge (chocolate and peanutbutter) and pizzelles, then this afternoon I had a brainstorm to make a new fudge, made the recipe up in my head and I do believe it is going to be a winner, just waiting for it to set up but it set up on the spoon and it tastes delicious. Now I better go write it down so I don't forget. Looking forward to what you are going to be making, I can watch you while I am taking a break from cooking here. I used to trade my cold lunch for hot lunch, and I loved the school paste, it was delicious. Stay warm and have a good weekend.

Grandma used to make this when I was a teenager and she knew we were all just wild about cashews and she added some cashews to this along with the other nuts it made them really pretty when you cut them and the cashews had a little different texture than the pecans and walnuts I don't remember if she used both of those but I know she used one or the other. Glad to see this recipe again.

Yes,....1/4 c. Ours is available in a pound block.....or individually wrapped 1/4 lb pieces. Hope you make this and love it. WE always look forward to it. I didn't make it last year....so it's extra special this year...

@@hilaryquinn8673 Gay said it can be kept in the fridge covered tightly with saran wrap. I would make it 3 or 4 days before you need it. I hope this helps you.
