Yall, permatex has great products. I had an 82' GMC Jimmy and I used that on the radiator 5 yrs ago and it's overheated twice and it held! Used it in other leaks, and it's held. So I think that was a good decision. Of course, mine was antifreeze and not fuel. Good luck with it! Merry Christmas! Have a prosperous new year!

Thank you guys. The stuff you used for the gas tank works good. I used that stuff for a old car that leaked gas and after I used that stuff ( gas tank repair ) works great. Just leave it set for a few days, it will be hard and seal the tank good.

I've commented before, we have a 1992 Malibu Sunsetter. We pretty much just do 5 MPH, bird watch, have a few beers, and enjoy the day. Nobody in our family skis anymore. the kids are gone. We still love the boat and its mission. We repowered it last Summer, just got it winterized, and are looking forward to next Spring. I do, of course, love getting it up on plane from time to time. Your diesel will be great for what you described. Thanks for the video!

I have used that product more than a few times and if properly applied the way you are applying it you should be just fine. I have used it on diesel and gas fuel tanks with great results. Have a great holiday.

Yes. Its the fumes that explode. And if welding is carefully done, bring not to much heat in, it works. Or fill it with water, use inert gas.

Don't know if you could find a band saw to cut those with. Working with shipwrights in my youth, they used a band saw for 90% of all cuts. Might be able to rent a portable one from tool rental store? Just a thought.

I would have done the putty as well. If it fails, I would worry about it then. In the meantime you will be running diesel getting the gas fumes out making it easier to weld in future if needed. If you do need to weld in the future, fill tank with water an inch or so below the holes then weld. Fill after fix with water to check for leaks, then drain and let evaporate by using heat gun to heat tank. When dry, add fuel and go. Hope that helps.

Check out a Makita 5402NA timber saw. It's primarily used for timberframing and has a 6-inch cutting depth at 90 degrees, so you should be able to cut any angle you need on your thinner material.

As I recall, the drive unit you bought came with a prop with greater pitch than the original. If you still have that prop, the diesel may allow you to make use of the greater pitch.

About your rpm/speed of Boat, with the extra torque of the Diesel, you can now run a bigger propeller, therefore run about the same if not greater speed...😊

Galvanic corrosion doesn’t need salt. Glad you’re removing the root cause. Believe it or not that difference in potential can screw up electric systems and cause a draw even when the key isn’t energized, changing the negative (ground). Diesel is the best!

Once drained you could've easily got the fumes out by running a hose from the tailpipe of a vehicle to the tank and letting it run for 30 minutes. The fumes would be neutralized and you could weld on it no problem. It's an old trick that the gas tank repair guys used to remove the fumes. That could be tig welded fairly easily as long as the inside is clean.

All that can be done with the White Rust is to slow the spread of it way down. With the inherent porosity of the crystal structure of Aluminum the oxidation wicks into the material. By reducing its exposure to air you can slow the spread and growth of the oxidation to the point that it appears that it has been "killed" What I am saying is that it could be 30 years before there are any sign of corrosion. By converting to Diesel you are decreasing the exposure to oxygen, which helps you tremendously.

As far as rpm and speed go just reprop the boat to a higher pitch prop seeing as the diesel has a lot of torque. Also look into replacing the leg with one that has better gearing for the diesel just like a car legs come with different gear ratios.

You can cut most of it with a 10-inch skill saw or you can use a sawzall I personally would cut as deep as you can with your regular skill saw then cut the rest of the way with a sawzall or a reciprocating saw but that's just me
