The interview shows how the problems started. We were uniquely run, and it worked with 2 geniuses together steering the ship. When those two left, the model didn't seem set up to work in the modern world without them, and then poor appointments and a model based upon off the field success more than what happens off it, highlighted the flaws in the model, which was perfect if run by certain people I.e. Sir Alex and David Gill because they were special.

The best CEOs dont have huge ego..... You can tell that David Gill is an objective man..... Fair, calm, balanced..... Perfect CEO for fiery, egotistal, erratic Football Managers..... I can see why he was a perfect man to work with Fergie.... Woodward is a bit more of an ego....
@blex557911 ай бұрын
it`s not abt ego- it`s abt knowledge and intention- that said, the nonchalance, when he described players walking into talks with advisors and lawyers and whatnot tells you everything that`s wrong with football...it`s become the epitome of panem et circenses....totally sordid at this point in time. The reason i barely watch it anymore, i stick to EC/WC, watching you english fail and fail again... from germany ;)
@mnb916211 ай бұрын
@@blex5579 I disagree.... You can get some very knowledgeable people who fundamentally have good intentions but get blinded by their own ego of being in such a position of power....
@blex557911 ай бұрын
Woodward`s intention were "make money" from the getgo- bankers background- ZERO knowledge, ZERO intentions for the club. I honestly pity you guys in the long term, and by that i mean the english football in general- shareholder-value is NOT healthy. never was, never will be. in the long run.
@mnb916211 ай бұрын
In terms of Shareholder value I agree in the short term sense....... Its completely toxic due to the short term viewpoint that kills investing for the long term..... Aka The Glazers completely under investing in infrastructure...
@blex557911 ай бұрын
there is no end to it- the whole system of shareholder value is based upon quarterlies...you might get lucky ever so often with owners, but in the grand scheme of things it more often than not destroys the business/club/whatever. and i am talking businesses with REAL value, not your NFT-bubble...

@tris42110 ай бұрын
@@TheLastAngryMan01 agree. This is why i wish at least Ste pressed DG a bit more here. Pretty much the only time we actually splashed cash on a player during this time was Berbatov. 'No value in the market' etc. Just as City were building a team that would dominate for the next 10+ years.
@TheLastAngryMan0110 ай бұрын
@@tris421 Yeah. I’d add Robin van Persie as a big money signing, but even that wasn’t huge money, in all honesty. And the last two title winning sides we had were pretty threadbare, with the likes of Darren Fletcher, Park Ji Sung, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Shinji Kagawa etc. being vital players in the squad, Paul Scholes coming out of retirement etc. We were running on fumes even then and it was largely through SAF’s managerial genius that we were still a force.

@@TheLastAngryMan01 25 mill was pennies for a player like that as he only had a year left. He was a big transfer but not big money. But yeah agree with pretty much everything. I hate it when pundits talk about all the mone we've spent because tbh the real damage was done then.
