Basic overview of this 5R55S Valve Body and installation of the Transgo Shift Kit.
This unit was heavily contaminated with very fine metal contaminants from the torque converter.

We accidentally put in the servo bore update backwards, (this was before they had the pre cut drill holes, it was when you actually hat to drill a hole).... we didnt do a shift kit on it though, this is the first I see it, great vid hiram

Excellent info! My daughter's 2003 Mercury Mountaineer had already been rebuilt with the servo bore repair by a previous owner. I found this out after the flashing OD light and no shift from 1st to 2nd led me to replace the solenoid block, but that didn't help. There's a lot of vague info out here in forums. lol. Upon further investigation, I opened up the OD servo cover to find the rod broken from the piston....$25 and I had it going again! I'm not a technician, just a shadetree. Before that, a company that starts with "A" wanted to do a total rebuild for her because they didn't know Dad was involved, and that receipts for a previous rebuild were in the glovebox when I bought it. Anyhow, things were working again for about a year. Now, no take off in "D" and "R"...even though it engages initially with the clunk, and will take off in 3, 2, and 1? Checked the fluid, okay. Pulled the pan, no metal in pan. Tried to adjust OD band, it was exactly 2 turns out from contact. Next, I will remove the valvebody to look for "stuff" clogging up the valves. I might add, there were no grinding noises or anything, but the fluid did look darker this time indicating maybe overheating? If I'm not finding any metal, would installing a shift kit maybe be the next move in the process of elimination? The only code I got with a scanner was P1700 internal undetermined failure. I appreciate your videos man! I might have to tear it down to look for broken stuff. You definitely know your stuff man!

Excellent video series! When I had the transmission professionally rebuilt at Mr Transmission here in Toronto Canada, a new problem started: there is a long lag when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. The transmission shop told me it is nothing they did - it must be something else in the electronics etc. It wasn't doing this before the rebuild. What controls the 3 to 2 shift? A valve in the valve body? The main servos have been upgraded to with the brass bushings. The transmission is not sending out any codes and all other shifting is normal. Reverse is starting to get weird again but still engaging. It was serious problems shifting into reverse that forced me to take the truck to get the transmission repaired...

seems like the 6R80 in my f150 has a cooler stat that maintains 200 degree trans temp. the 4r70w in my older truck runs around 150 trans temp mostly

After having 3 units fail within 6 months using the T-go flow control valve that stuck. I no longer use their kit on these units. The Sonnax flow control valve is much better. But the Superior kit is the best one for these unit. With a flow control valve that just does not fail. At least not yet.

Did the shift kit fix any issues with the trans? I have the 5R55S trans in 2003 Lincoln LS and it shifts very harsh from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd

Hiram, Thanks for your videos they are very good. I just did this mod on a 2002 Explorer. Problem is now that when I come to a stop sign it does not shift down to 1st and flairs until you get the revs up when your ready to go again. Also has a bit of flair going into 3rd. The kit calls for 2 1/4 inch balls installed which is what I did. the original Valve body had one 1/4 and one about 3/16 installed. Question is should I have left the small one in instead of replacing it? Also do you have any other ideas? Thanks, Steve

thanks Hiram am getting so many troubles with my car will explain to you briefly and if you can please advise me well when the car is cool down it drive with all gears changing no problem but the reverse is very low, now when continue driving for a few km then I have no gears when i stop the car for some minutes all okay then again again no gears at all. here in mauritius we can't find specialist like you, a garage told me to change the friction and steel plates then torque converter, I have listened to him and he change all but still the same, please Hiram can you advise me what causing this? many thanks

Ok, got a question for ya. I'm trying to put trans fluid in my 2002 5r55s transmission. I was told that it takes 4 quarts Mercon V. I couldn't get the petcock open (stupid thing rounded even though I sprayed it with wd.) On the 2002 it has a fill hole on the back, so I opened that and pumped in the 4 quarts. How do I check the fluid level to see if it's filled correctly now since I can't open the fill petcock on the pan?

Hiram, what are some of the symptoms / signs / noises I should be looking for when determining if a Torque Converter is failing? Will debris start showing up in the pan and filter? Thank you for your time.

Hiram Gutierrez need your help. Throwing code p0743 with the 5r55s with sometimes flashing o/d light and car went into limp mode. I've changed the filter, solenoid pack and transmission wiring harness. Reset the codes and they still came back, any thoughts?

Hey i’m about to cop a 2005 gt automatic with 100k. I’ve heard the 55r5 trans has some problems going bad between 100-150k for a lot of people. However some peoples have gone up to almost 300k. Obviously a lot of this is determined by fluid changes and how hard the car was driven..but the owner i’m buying it from said he’s never done a trans fluid or filter change. If i changed it first thing after buying you think I’d be alright? Or is a 100k trans that’s never been serviced a ticking time bomb?

Greetings. I have a 5r55n where the 4-3 pre stroke valve spring broke. I'm having a hard time removing the valve. It seems a piece of spring it's jamming the valve or the spring it's getting caught inside the valve body. Any trick or technique so I can pull the valve out without damaging the valve body? I can't figure out how to grab the valve and pull it out or find a point where I can pry from and push it out.

Hello Hiram I really appreciate how you are so I'm formative in your videos. I have a question regarding my 05 Explorer XLT 112K miles. I have no Codes from My Actron scanner. The Tranny is Slipping slightly between 2nd and third gear. I feel a thud when I go from D to R and when I'm slowing down I feel a thud as if I we hit from behind. This is after the truck reaches op temp. I think I feel a vibration when I'm at 70+mph. Could you help me please. Thank you in advance.

Hey Hiram great videos man. I need your help with a 5r55s that has a p0741 torque converter stuck off. It has a new solenoid pack, new converter, new converter seals on gear and sealing ring. Checked valve body tcc valve for binding and ok. Also checked circuits from pcm, and pcm ground coming out good. Problem returns right off the back with a wrench light. Any advise i would really appreciate it?

Is there any issue with using blue assembly goo instead of the transgel gold?

There both the same, just different color. The green is thicker, I use it to paste my washers and bearings for ease of assembly. The blue for all rubber. I stay away from the red because it mimics a transmission fluid leak which is also red.
