Thank you for the education, Doc! Much appreciated! You shed light on that less observed interior area of the oil filter, and the design differences with OEM vs. aftermarket. I will never again use anything other than the Motorcraft oil filter on my E-350 Super Duty.

Thanks, Josh. No one has actually explained the theory of the white plastic "x" piece that comes with some of the aftermarket filters. When I bought my used 6.0, it had the "x" piece and I thought it was a factory part. I kept changing my oil filters regularly with OEM and I always found that there was some binding to compress the spring. Now I se why! Thanks for a great video. I'm looking forward to receiving your machined cylinder heads soon. Aloha, L.P.

Great video thanks. That black piece with the spring is missing on mine and I'm having a problem loosing oil pressure and the truck kills when hot. Could that be my issue? What is that piece called? Thanks for any help

Thanks Josh. I only run motorcraft filters. When I bought my truck, the aftermarket filter someone had installed came out in pieces..lol

If the oil comes out the top of the filter is that okay. Mine is missing the niple on the top but still springs up and down as it should?

I bought fl2016 filter off amazon in a motorcraft box it does not have keyway inside filter and i have exact problem you are describing. Do you know any reason that this could be, other than someone selling counterfeit parts? The filter itself is stamped Ford fl2016.

Josh, I changed my oil and I became curious as to why my filter and cap was not springy ?? It seems as if there is no spring on the shaft or tube. Is this an after market tube ? Signed Concerned

My button is laying in the bottom of the oil compartment. Will this cause the low oil pressure leading to a no start?

Hey there I have a 2003 6.0L and I’ve been having no end of issues I have an oil leak coming from somewhere up top, I just did a turbo replacement but the last few months I’ve been driving it I’ve noticed when the truck is building up rpm as soon as I’m over 1500-2000 I hear what sounds like something spraying but I can not find out what it is because it does not do it when parked and reving up do you have any advice

When I unscrew the oil filter cap on my 6 liter ford diesel it does not pop up. Is this causing any damage to the engine?
@oil12524 жыл бұрын
Most likely since the filter is not filtering some oil

The early 6.0 had a different style drain tube without the large spring.

I bought a Motorcraft filter FL-2016 for my 2006 6.0L F250 yesterday and guess what - it wouldn't work. I wonder how many fake Motorcraft filters are out there? I have had more luck with the after market filters than Motorcraft? I just don't get it.

6.0 doctor the center plastic with the lil spring broke and a lil piece drop right inside the tube how can I take it out ??
@oil12524 жыл бұрын
If it's in the place were the filter is in you will have to remove the filter housing

I broke the little button spring on the top. Can i just replace that part or do i need to replace the whole filter stand itself ?
@isailadino56336 жыл бұрын
Mauro Talamantes same happened to me but lil plastic clip that hold the spring broke and i think a plastic piece went it to the the system, did you fix your?
@TheCriticalChris4 жыл бұрын
Isai Ladino, it May have chipped off into the interior of the oil filter element you were trying to install.

So how do I take that tube out to replace it
@Dieselpitstop6 жыл бұрын
Sam Perez 3 torque screws on the bottom of the tube.
@TheCriticalChris4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Doc! And on my E-350, they are T-27 size screws. Also, there is a red-colored gasket, about the diameter of a half dollar, up there where it seats, that should be swapped out with the new gasket that comes with the new tube.

This is ford being Aholes and trying to corner the market. Instead they ruin their reputation when engines fail. Check if your filter standpipe (without the filter installed) moves up and down freely on the spring. If it does, you probably have the adapter that overrides fords lock. Use a quality filter of your choice at that point. If not find the adapter that is cylindrical (not the fan) and your good all oil changes because the cylindrical adapter clips into the standpipe. The fan style is trash.

I know this is old post but any idea where i can buy this adapter?
@leemcbroom4708 Жыл бұрын
@@samualmayfield509 It used to come with some filters. Not sure if they’re still putting them in there or not. I got rid of my 6.0.
