Thank you for the added time it cost you in your shop to make some of the best instructional videos out there. Bud I just found your videos and have needed someone to take up the torch with the camera and instructions after Ron passed and all I can say is thanks. You have helped tremendously to all of us DIYer’s. I’m sure it’s a pain in the ass but no one could ever explain how much help this is. Thanks bud.

You are amazing but the only thing this video taught me is to pay someone like you to do my heads. God bless you because we need folks like you to keep us going. I was out when you said “ ok we are gonna lift the engine”. Yeah, no we are not. Thanks for an excellent video

As other less difficult parts continue to fail on my 6.0 I keep getting more and more skills/experience. I’m hoping by the time my head gaskets actually fail that I’ll be up to the task and no longer have the outlook as you lol. “Lift the engine by…” yep I’m signing off on this one for time being

There's a way to do this without lifting the engine assuming you are replacing the head bolts. Pull the far right head bolt upwards(drivers side) until it hits the firewall. Ziptie the base of the bolt so it stays in place. Cut the bolt off with a multitool(metal blade). Leave yourself enough bolt to grab, pull it up again, ziptie the base again, cut it again. The bolt and head come right out. To put the head back in, separate the rocker carrier from the head, put the head on the block without the rocker carrier. The rocker carrier is light enough you can take a single head stud and hold it in the far right position as you put the rocker carrier back onto the head. Also, if your truck doesn't have AC like mine, just remove the heater box on the passenger side. It's worth the 30-60 minutes to remove it and makes working on that side a million times easier. This guy really knows his stuff and this video helped tremendously. Thought I'd add a tip so you don't have to mess with the engine mounts.

Thank you for this video. I noticed my coolant is pumping out of the degas bottle only while under a load pulling my boat (I've replaced the degas bottle and cap, truck already has BPD egr and oil cooler) I was just quoted about $8200 to have this job done with ARP studs and new heads. Think I am going to end up doing it myself at that price. They were pretty adamant on replacing the heads while they are in there too, said its like a 50% chance that they would have to do the job again if I didn't just get new ones...

Good video, working on doing my first cab on heads off. I'm curious if anyone knows whether or not it is any different or harder to do this on a 4wd? The reason I'm curious is, bc when he lowers the driver of the engine it's just twisting at the trans mount, but with the transfer case I'm curious if it will cause any binding. I'm also curious what would happen if you took out both motor mounts and lowered the engine down that the pan was just touching the engine cradle. Anyone?

yes. remove both valve covers and oil rails. then remove 4 nuts on the driver side engine mount, jack up engine using a big wood block and make sure its not in the center of the oil pan jack up the engine just enough to remove the back bottom stud. do not remove rocker carrier assemblies on either side until its on the bench. then remove engine mount on driver side when head is out then lower jack all the way down. on the passenger side remove all studs except the bottom 3 on the back.. pull them out about 1" and put zip ties around them .. remove the rest of the studs and pull the head.

@@jmilko917 how did it go? Did you have to remove the motor mount to get the studs out on the passenger side?
@jmilko917
@jmilko917 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickwelch620 yes I did. Also to get a single one out right next to firewall on driver side. All went good. Took my time. Frustrating yeah but doable.

@@jmilko917 thanks for letting me know. Big help. Seriously. Just got to the head bolts a few mins ago before closing up shop for the night. Headed back at it tomorrow to get the heads out. Be well!

If you take the heads off first, can you pull the block out with cab on? My 2006 f350 crewcab needs an engine rebuild

This is probably too late but you can get the whole engine out out the front with the heads and valve covers still on. I did it 2 years ago. There is a fantastic write up online. Just Google search powerstroke 6.0 engine out cab on. The article is from diyford.com

I've read where many have done this on 03's but can you do it on a 2006 with out removing the cab?

dlynes yes I can pull heads on any powerstroke 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 without pulling the cab. Vans need to pull motor.

I have an 06 that I just lost the head gasket(s) on. Will I have to jack the motor in both directions to remove the heads?

great vid, but those are factory head BOLTS not studs.I appreciate the video though. wish I knew that when I worked at another guy's shop. I used to put off head jobs until I could lift the cab

S reeves this is removing factory heads with factory bolts. It's the same if your doing arp studs. My other KZbin video shows install for arp studs with cab on.

Was the hood removed? If not was your chains pulling from directly above? What was the symptoms that lead to pulling the heads?

Hood was not removed. Chains pulled directly above. Head gaskets were blown. This video was specifically made to show backyard garage, do it yourself mechanics how to replace head gaskets on 6.0 Powerstrokes that do not have the capability to pull cabs.

Can anyone recommend a good head gasket kit for a 2006 Ford 6.0? My son bought a truck that needs the head gasket replaced and I am not great with diesel engines. Thank you

I had the same thought. Obviously you wouldn’t be replacing the gaskets.

My big question. If I have a car lift in my garage, Is there really any labor savings to leaving the cab on the truck. How long does it take to remove the cab from a 05 f350? Great channel BTW.
