The author does like to kzbin.infoUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I hope you don't mind but I am going to use your video as a template for excuses...I mean, good reasons, to use towards my wife to justify all my purchases...even for brand new tools. Ditto, except I tend to negotiate in person. I feel like it's easier for me to get a feel for what the tool is worth, what kind of condition it's in etc. Additionally, it's easier for me to read the seller's commitment to a sale or reaction to what I offer. I also don't want to create any hard feelings with a seller, but I find it easier to do that in person. Also be ready to walk away. As a seller, I have had the weirdest low ball offers on stuff - like $50 on something in excellent condition that would normally sell used for $600 - so I assume the seller I'm talking to has had to deal with that online too.
@nefariousyawn
@nefariousyawn Жыл бұрын
Oh, and I have definitely made offers to buy something, only for the seller to tell me they sold it for more to someone else before I got to their location. That stings.

What recommendations do you have to help with search terms on the different sites?
@MakeEverything
@MakeEverything Жыл бұрын
I use very vague search terms usually, like shear, brake, lathe, mill, drill, etc. typically people selling things they don’t know much about don’t know how to properly describe them. Those are the best deals!!

If you're good at scanning/skimming pages of results, you might catch people that misspell their tools really badly. Like if I'm searching for tools, I might find a lathe that was spelled "latte" because the seller wasn't proofreading their auto correct. Or someone spelled it "lath" and didn't correct it because it was their grandfather's and they just need to get rid of his old stuff.

Sorry to be so blunt but myself personally all I can SCREAM is "F__K Craig's List!!!"!!!!! I bought a table saw on Craig's List, the guy "showed me that it worked" until I got it home, then realized he'd removed BOTH knobs that controlled the tilt and the blade height adjustment!! I had bought THAT saw for $80 and spent another $80 on it for parts to replace the missing pieces, only to then realize, he'd never given me the rip fence for it!! So I jumped on Craig's list and sold the same saw.......for only $60!! I was out $100 on that deal! THEN I bought a miter saw on Craig's List, the guy again "showed me the saw worked" and gave me a baggie with the "wenches" and the owners manual for it!! I got it home and realized that there were a bunch of teeth missing off the blade, and when grabbed the wrenches out of the bag, they didn't fit my saw, which didn't matter anyhow, because the arbor nut had been welded to the arbor, so I couldn't change the blade if I'd wanted too!! I had wasted $150 on that saw, only to recover only $50 for it, back on Craig's List! In fact the last tool I bought on Craig's List was another table saw, that I got burnt on that again! In the end I finally wised up, went to Home Depot and bought me a brand new Ryobi 10" contractors saw, and a brand new Ryobi 10" miter saw!! I got my contractors saw for just $174 and the miter saw set me back only $99 on sale!! And Craig's List folks can keep their junk, I am fed up with hustlers, liars and scumbags selling crap on Craig's List in my area!!! If it isn't NEW, then I don't want it, and I am certainly fed up with buying junk I have to repair just to use it!! I don't have time or money to waste, and that is all Craig's List offers!!! And my last point is there are too many "shady people out there" that will sell you junk and smile at you as they do it!! And it really is "buyer beware" even on Facebook Marketplace!! And I have gotten some pretty lousy "deals" on both Facebook and Craig's List......so these days I'd rather pay retail, then get stuck repairing somebody else's headaches!!

Don't loan your tools to this guy! He runs over his own water hose with his forklift, multiple times, on gravel and brings out cast iron machines in the rain thinking a little WD-40 will make it AOK, talking about flash rust. IN THE RAIN! ...... Haha! Very cool score on both machines!! Well done!

I cringe when I hear the grit as you slide the sheetmetal in the shear. Next time try using a can of WD and hosing it down good to wash away the edge killing grit, and everytime you fold the part and it doesn't shear the blade gets bowed.

He had the mag brake listed and no power to show it working, so just being able to demonstrate it to a buyer would make worth $1500. The 52” shear was never listed but other ones in my area sell For $1500+. I’m not in them to sell them tomorrow, but I don’t buy stuff that isn’t trading for more in my market

So here is what you need to be aware of when using CL or FB Marketplace, etc…… At that price for both of them, its most likely their stolen. Ya, you helped screw someone buying stolen equipment. “But how could you steal heavy equipment!?” Think about it, small company or business, something not getting used much sitting in the back, unscrupulous scumbag makes a side deal and later pretends he has no idea where that shit is a month later when they want to use it again! $1000 for them pair? In the age of the internet?! Like he wasn’t a google search away of making 3 times that EASILY!!!! But he’s gonna make a quick buck because its not his and he has to do it quick. Ya, stolen. So buyer beware. If its too good to be true (ESPECIALLY in the used tool market) then its stolen. Did you get a good deal? Yes. Is it stolen? Obviously! You shoulda known better. You seem like a nice guy so I don’t want to also say, “i think you kinda had a feeling these were stolen but you WANTED them!” But i hope thats not the case.😕

Try Phosphoric Acid aka "prep n etch". It dissolves rust, and anything it can't dissolve will be changed to a black inert oxide in the deeper pits. It can still be taken off with a wire wheel later, but the rust won't get worse.
