You can use braid but I have about 50 yards of mono on top, makes it easier to deal with tangles.

you can use braid, just have to use a top shot... personally I fish both, but more and more I tend to like mono... if you have nice tackle the mono nowadays gives you the same sensitivity and you don't need the top shot then, and you won't loose so many fish on the way up with them spitting the hook due to lack of stretch in the braid.
