Don't give them a reason to ticket you. You were getting unloaded facing oncoming traffic. Any ticket affects your CDL potential...protect your license.

Good point man, appreciate that. I listened to the guy receiving and they said they have to park like that all the time. I said I should probably turn around but he was like nah it wont be long. I need to stick with my gut feeling.

So you should park to get unloaded facing the flow of traffic?

A tip for when you don't have a big enough jack: Next time you get a flat while loaded, knock the lugnuts loose on the wheel you have to change, then roll the other wheel on the same side of the trailer that is still holding air up on some cribbing; that should get your flat off the ground so you can change it. Once the good tire is on and the lugnuts are snug, roll back off the cribbing and torque the nuts down all the way with a torque wrench per the axle specs.

i always use 4 chains on a load that require them, one on each corner, and also use the 3 point contact on the chain hook, a former DOT guy told me thats the way it should be , 3 point contact just run your chain down between the rub rail or the round tubes between the stake pockets then under the stake pocket then up and hook to stake pocket. hope you best of luck out there and stay safe.good video.

A few thoughts from a non-expert... it's been a while since I had to keep track of things for self-employment. Things you may already be doing: 1: Are dead-head miles accounted for differently than loaded miles for tax purposes, or are all miles lumped together... or does it depend on anything? i.e. is each load is a separate job that you're getting paid for, and miles in-between that you're empty or heading to/from home empty that you're not getting paid for? When I was working for myself doing jobs (non-trucking) in different places, I deducted miles to/from/in-between at the standard rate. 2: Expenses away from home should all be deductible- within reason: food, laundry, hotel during a reset, maybe even the truck wash (maintenance if itemized), etc. Keep track instead of wishing you had. 3: It may be useful to calculate your RPM differently for partials: if- for example- you pick up the first partial and drive 50 miles to pick up the second- that's one RPM, 200 miles with both to drop one off is another (higher rpm), and 40 miles to drop the second- that's another still. It won't change your average at the end of the week, but it might change how you look at what all those miles were actually worth and how the partials are paying. If they're good, you'll have a better feeling than the way you showed them. Or, at least average the total trip miles with the total freight $ (with or without dead-head). If they're good loads, you'll have a better feeling about them than the way you showed them.

My Grand dad created the Hotshot business back in the late 70's and early 80's. You sound like your on the right track. If you would ever like to see what the ultimate Hotshot Truck set up and Trailer are I have the full specs and pictures. By todays standards his setup was closer to that of a class 8 with chains and boomers. If your ever interested in more let me know, I will gladly share the info free of charge if you want. His truck had all the capabilities for loading and unloading loads in event customer did not have a forklift nor crane.

So I have a f-250 and for sometime now been wanting to get started but times have been tough. Been doing shut down work across country till I get myself in the situation I can start. My biggest thing that’s got me back and forth is the advantage to non advantage of CDL and wondering since I’ve watched a lot of your videos. Is anyone able to travel cross country doing hotshot work without CDL or are you able to maybe bc living in Texas? Haven’t been to sure how fast I can start up bc of this dilemma and hoping you could shed some light on it for me or anyone for that matter! Thanks and stay safe on the road bro!

Been watching your videos and you are very helpful, sincere. I have a question for you now knowing what you know...Would you switch trucks? Would you use different tires for your truck or trailer? If you could start over from the beginning with your present knowledge what would you change? Trailer, truck, tires, options on equipment? Is there anything on your truck that you don't have but you wish you did? Anyway, well done with your driving and videos.

At the end of the year you write off the fuel and interest on your truck payment, food, lodging, etc., right? I mean those are write offs correct? This would be my first year but it’s all based how you set up your business or if you are leased on to a company. DBA, sole proprietorship or LLC. But for the most part everything should be able to be a write off. Meet with a CPA to set up your business and set up a business plan. I leaned on the job with practice and thankfully I had a friend that I could call. Thanks for watching bro

Love all the videos. I was taking with my wife about doing this and her question is where would I sleep. I looked at your setup and wondered how feasible would it be to mount a roof top tent onto of the goose neck area. It would think that might be more comfortable. What are your thought?
@HotshotMacc
@HotshotMacc 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I’m not sure about the tent options but I’ve seen some creative builds on top of the neck. The main sleeper in these trucks though are in the back with removing the seats and building a bed. I did a video on my set up

Look at GLADIATOR tires for your trailer…. Last longer and you should be able too get them at most SOUTHERN TIRE and they are fairly inexpensive. Also, $1.50 should be your break even point anything over your doing good, under you are loosing money.

Macc, love your content. Considering non-cdl with my '22 Ram 2500. Help me justify this: if your weekly net averages $2,250 and you're putting that amount of mileage on your truck, it seems there's very little meat left in the bone. Meaning, you net $117k at the end of the year, but your $70k truck has nearly 200,000 miles on it. How many miles are feasible on these trucks? Is the equipment cost too high for it to be really profitable?

theres plenty of trucks that can do what this truck does that arent 70k.

Hey bro if you don't mind me asking, do you have family at home? If so, what is it like ? What kind of schedule do you run hotshot? Just kind of staying on the road or do you get to go home every weekend?
@HotshotMacc
@HotshotMacc 3 жыл бұрын
What up bro! I don’t mind at all. I have a wife and a dog at home. No kids. It can be tough at times but right now we understand the temporary sacrifice. Im sure it’ll be harder if we had kids too. But I stay out for about 3 weeks at a time just bc I’ll make more that way with my set up. If running your own authority depending on the city you live you could definitely be more local and get in some weekend runs.

What is working under lease like? Do you think it would be harder to find loads on your own as opposed to them being found for you?
@HotshotMacc
@HotshotMacc Жыл бұрын
Being leased on to the right company could be very beneficial in the beginning just bc it allows you to get experience and keep your truck moving. Its also possible to do with your own authority but you gotta be able to hustle and manage all parts of the business.
