For such a close range shot I didn't think it was bad performance. Velocity is good considering the temperature too. Good load, specially for longer ranges.

Gold dot rifle bullet pretty good from what iv seen. Jrb reloading tank deer with their 6.5mm bullets in his 6.5 grendal. Also test 300blk gold dots and .22cal in gel. The 300blk lack good expashion for what call a expandable 150gr . He also test the 300blk bullet in 300win mag and drastically help it expand. 😅 . As 22 cal gold dots test them in 22250

The 120gr is my go to bullet for hog and deer hunting out of my 6.5 Grendel... I've shot water jugs out to 300 yards with muzzle velocity of just over 2500fps and still got pretty good expansion. But I agree this wouldn't be my bullet of choice for Alaska but neither would anything else in 6.5mm.... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Yes and no. If you're going to shoot a lot, get a creedmoor. If you want to hunt with it, the 6.5x284 Norma is the way to go... except that there's way more factory ammo for 6.5prc and you can get a little more power loading 6.5prc. All three are good cartridges.

Do you think these are the exact same bullets as the federal fusion loaded ammo? Federal owns speer so it could be. They do look similar and the performance seems similar. On another note, I can't get my hands on the gold dot but I have some 140gr hot cores I'm loading for my dads new creedmoor. He's getting up in age and his old 30-06 kicks him pretty hard, and isn't necessary for whitetail. I think I should be able to get them up to 2750 or so fps.

I am curious about your choice of tie 6.5x284 cartridge in Alaska. I would assume cases for unique cartridges like that would’ve extremely difficult/expensive to obtain up there. In your opinion, do Alaskans tend to stick to common cartridges vs what a lower 48 shooter might?

@AlaskanBallistics2 жыл бұрын
So in factory loads, the 6.5x284 Norma beats 6.5 creedmoor which also beats the swede. Now i know with a modern rifle the 6.5x55 swede can be loaded much hotter and yes it should be about equal to the 6.5x284 Norma. The 6.5x284 Norma uses the old .284 Winchester cases!
@frankbrowning3282 жыл бұрын
At 15 yards that is truly impressive! That will make a tremendous whitetail bullet. It should be a little better than the 270 WIN with the same bullet type and weight for wind drift and drop. I would guess the recoil is similar as well.

@frankbrowning3282 жыл бұрын
@@AlaskanBallistics The 6.5X284 is such an efficient cartridge without as much blast and recoil as the 264 WIN Mag or the 6.5 Nosler. Also the 6.5 Nosler (Good as it is) will devour both powder, and if shot in quick succession, barrels too.

Get some distance, and shoot some ballistic gel. That bullet will perform, I wouldn’t have a issue using them on a moose, or elk. Same bullet as the Fusion. It’s a good bonded bullet, and a decent price for them. I’ve taken several animals with them, never had a recover on the bullets. All were DRT! If your rifle likes them give them a try, grab Federal Fusion, if your not a reloader. The animals I took, were all with the 270 win. using this bullet. Most had quarter sized exit, or slightly larger. Using my 6.5x284,I anticipate longer shots, thus I use a different bullet.
@AlaskanBallistics2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Ballistics gel and winter is a bad idea. But I'm sure it's better. It's actually not the same bullet as fusion according to federal. But they are real similar. I've got many videos of FUSION on the channel. Plan on filming the .270 this summer. Godspeed and good hunting.
