I just shot Speer gold dot 140gr bullets at multiple charge and seating lengths with h4350. My largest group was .76 and smallest was .56 with a Tikka t3x.

It's a lead slug with a electroplated jacket. That's how the atomic bonding is done. It's the way Speer/CCI does all of their "FMJ" (really TMJ) bullets, even the ones they load into 22WMR.
@14goldmedals4 жыл бұрын
The copper is actually electro plated onto lead bullets that are just under optimum diameter then finished in a final die for sizing. Totally bonded to the lead right down to the molecular level. I'm a big fan of Gold Dot revolver and pistol ammo.

RE 16 is a little hotter than H4350 from what I hear it's a hard to find re16 powder in the last couple years, but I think it's being more findable these days kinda like Fed match primers they finally hit the shelves

Kyle, try some RL26 under that 140 bthp. Around 45.5-46gr depending on brass will give good accuracy and speed. My 12fv gets 2850fps with no pressure

How are you getting that velocity? Speer's own data for that bullet shows a max at about 2785fps. My usage in a 22" barrel bolt action tends to agree with that, and usually a semi auto is slightly slower!
@SocialRegressive5 жыл бұрын
If I had been smart, that's where I would have stayed. In fact, that's my new load: 41.9 grains. I didn't have any issues at first, but on a hot day this load started piercing necks.

@@SocialRegressive RL 16 vs RL 26. Can u add more fps ? I understand 26 not as accurate 16. Seems maybe another 50 fps ? What you think. Great job thank for ur hard work brother.
@o52456074 жыл бұрын
Kyle, I don't have the new Speer manual but on the website using 42.8 grains which is a compressed load of Reloader 16, the Gold Dot 140 grain bullets, in a 24" barrel the maximum load produces 2785 fps. You may have misspoken about getting 2939 fps. Would you be able to clarify your load and the fps? Thank you.

Any plans to test the Gold Dot 120 gr's in a 6.5 Grendel. I bought 2 boxes of the bullets and wanted to use Hodgdon H322 powder? I also have H335/CFE-223 and BL-C/2. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated? I would be reloading the Grendel in a AR and bolt action rifle. This is my first post so if I'm in the wrong area or doing something wrong just let me know

What are your SD and ES numbers? What would you say a maximum standard deviation would be for distances past 1000 yards?
@jimhans16 жыл бұрын
dieselmakesmehappy not sure what he sees as a max for SD on his long range precision loads, but for ammo past 800 yards, I want me standard deviations to be at or below 5 for my loads, the lower the better.

I had some chrono issues last time out. I need to re-measure these.
@dieselmakesmehappy6 жыл бұрын
First time I chronographed my load I got a SD of 5 on a 5 shot group. Second was 8. And it was my worste grouping ever. .85 @ 100. Yards. Using IMR 4451 I get .25 groups but a SD of 14 . I might retry a ladder with H4350 and new brass. I got a new scale too. I think the old one was off.

@rossvanderpoel39076 жыл бұрын
You don’t use h4350? Shooting a bolt rifle, I have loaded 140’s with RL16, RL17, Varget and H4350. H4350 seems to give me the best velocity. Cheers
@tinncan6 жыл бұрын
Rl16 gives me an additional 100fps without blowing primers.
@jimhans16 жыл бұрын
ross vanderpoel I’ve used both H4350 and RL16 for my 6.5CM, 260Rem, and 6.5x47Lap, while both gave me great accuracy and consistency, the RL16 was able to get me at least 100fps more velocity across the boards with max loads worked up in my rifles. And as we all know for long range shooting, if everything else is the same ie accuracy, consistency etc, I will take the higher velocity to help extend distances.
@SocialRegressive6 жыл бұрын
I'll second what tincan and jim say. RL16 seems to net higher velocities with relatively low pressures. From what I've seen, 4350 is very consistent, though.
@jameskozlowski54966 жыл бұрын
R16 by far will give about 100 fps more velocity than H4350. My last lot of H4350 was actually 75fps slower than my other lot and actually varget was much faster and more precision. Had to abandon my last lot of H4350. R16 is where it's at.

You want faster than 2900 FPS out of a 140 gr 6.5cm? When he said that I was sold. Pushing 3000 FPS is very impressive numbers. I’m sure the gold dots reduced friction jacket helps some but it’s still good stuff. I need me a big ole jug of rl16 like the one he has! Great work! Thank you for sharing, keep the 6.5 cm stuff coming

Have you found the bc to be true? I’m having a hell of a time truing my solver up to the 168 grain in 308 and staying anywhere near claimed bc. I’ve chronographed the velocity so I don’t feel like my issue is the velocity. I’m finding I need to drop my bc from .572 to about .375 to line it up. Any input would be awesome to hear!

1-8 twist for the 90 to 105 class bullets or 1-7.5 for the 115 gr bullets, but the 243 is a barrel burner in sorts, go for the 6xc it's easy to tune peterson brass is made in small primer pocket and very good brass, velocity is almost equal to 243 and barrel will last longer

check and see what your Barrel twist is then decide which bullet is best for you
